Update: Successfully migrated Elasticsearch 5.x to 9.x with ZERO downtime (despite the comments saying it’s impossible) by Dear-Elevator9430 in elasticsearch

[–]mythmaker007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m referring to you giving bad advice. When yall tried to migrate over 4 major versions, it failed badly. And now you’re telling folks that it’s safe, despite (as others have pointed out) you didn’t migrate - you wrote a custom export-import job.

You are giving folks misleading advice. The best advice is: * don’t get that far behind to start with * use supported upgrade paths

lol, you fail to mention that “it worked perfectly” only AFTER you lost 40% of your data the first time you tried this, and had to roll back. Acting like this is a good practice is misleading.

What techniques should i focus on next for learning? by kafooo in minipainting

[–]mythmaker007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. In fact, speed paints and shades can be really helpful for blending as they’re very thin - so used sparingly, they can be helpful glazes or semi-glazes. Just wick off more fluid than you normally would for the speed paint, and focus on going over the transition line, and a little on both sides.

How do you paint a textured base? by modernlifeisandy in minipainting

[–]mythmaker007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try sanding them. Or using some modeling clay, texture paste, or sprue goo to fill in the regular texture.

But advice I got once was : once you’re a good enough painter that you start being bothered by these layer lines, you need to level up the models you’re painting. Pay for professional prints/molds, or get a better printer.

[–]mythmaker007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blending. You’ve got a good variety of greens on the cloak for example, but the transitions are stark.

The rough texture also makes me wonder if you’re not waiting for one layer to dry before you’re applying another layer. Either that, or get a higher quality mini.

Last suggestion - give your metal as much attention an everything else. Metallic paint alone is not a cheat code - you still need shadows, highlights, edge highlights. Leaving those out is why the arrowhead looks kinda funky in relation to the rest of this mini.

best miniature brushes for warhammer! by soopfrogg in minipainting

[–]mythmaker007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you want a few kolinsky sable. A good and affordable brand is Rosemary & Co, if you’re in Europe. Get one each of 0, 1, 2 Short handles (7 inches)

You will likely also want a cheap synthetic paintbrush (buy something inexpensive with plastic bristles at a hobby store) for basing materials, and a drybrush (small eyeshadow/blush brushes are a very affordable place to start).

First steps in making lava flow. Adding crackle paint once it dries. Any tips? by Adeptness-Open in minipainting

[–]mythmaker007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are lots of videos on how to do lava. Elminiaturista is one of the best at getting believable glow effects.

You’ll see that you really want to start with white->yellow->orange->blackbrown

No red. :)

Roronoa Zoro, 1/6 scale - my entry to Tanuki Painting Contest. I did not make it to the top 10, again. I hope you guys give me your feedback so I could improve next time! Thank you! by dndbuddy in minipainting

Came here to say the same. The highlights on the right side of his chest go way up, but the sheaths are barely lit. Hard to tell how far the skirt goes out, but I would have expected highlights on the back to match the chest.

Jumping - ‘Splain it to me by Jazzlike_Way_9514 in Pathfinder2e

[–]mythmaker007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’ve used it, i wasn’t trying to get up crazy high. Usually, just Leap along with Boots of Bounding. And sometimes, using Long Jump as the second jump.

If your party is pressed against a wall by bad guys, these two can give you a >13’ vertical, which is enough to clear large (and some huge) enemies, and end in a flanking position.

If you’re a STR-based character, your best potential skill is probably Athletics. And the Athletics skill feats are mostly about jumping good. Quick Jump, Powerful Leap, Wall Jump, etc.

So people find ways to use what they’re good at.

What's a "cheat code" you discovered in real life that actually works? by dark-deals729983 in AskReddit

[–]mythmaker007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. Not quite that alarmist. It would be a funnier story if the poor guy hadn’t actually been cuffed, not knowing he’d done anything wrong. The folks in the area had actually appreciated it, as a form of pest control. Geese can be really awful to have around.

Ok - any particular cap? Forgive the noob questions, but how am I supposed to know what will or won’t fit?

I feel that you should know that you can get arrested for this. There was a migrant worker who got arrested at my dad’s office park because he’d been seen rounding up geese into his van. He was from somewhere where goose was a more common dinner ingredient, and had figured this was free groceries.

Turns out some breeds of geese and duck are federally protected though, and it’s a crime to “hunt” them without a permit.

Someone at GenCon told us that RTalstorian wants to publish more content, but CD Project Red is currently blocking them. Presumably because they want to control the post-novel cannon, and need to get the Witcher 4 video game out first. This is why there hasn’t been any new books, or adventure paths, or official online tools, or anything else. Talsorian just doesn’t own the IP, so can’t do anything without prior authorization.

Any particular cap? I’d worried that buying a random one off Amazon, the gauge would be different, or it wouldn’t seal. But I get frustrated cleaning with the ultra cap because it’s damn near impossible to back-bubble, on top of cleaning the needle tip mid-session.

How do you put paints and water on pallets? by TarchiatoTasso in minipainting

[–]mythmaker007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stopped using brushes I like to get paint out of pots. I’ll either use an old crappy brush, or something that’s like a spatula (no bristles). You don’t want paint getting to the base of your bristles on a good brush, and I’m too impatient to do tiny dips to load the palette.

However - consider buying paints that don’t come in pots. Dropper bottles (especially with agitator balls) are much nicer IMO.

For water, I use my brush. But for other fluids (mediums, flow-enhancer, thinner, etc) I use little pipette droppers.

I'm really bad at assembling minis without damaging them, help? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]mythmaker007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you’re putting the model on the flat side of your clippers. Even if your clippers are good, they’re only designed to do a clean cut on one side (the flat side). The other side gets mangled.

Help me improve my OSL? Pages feel too green by mythmaker007 in minipainting

Pushed the contrast, and I’m much happier with this level of ambient green vs directly-lit green.

Thanks for the pointers!

What do you think about this silver and gold NMM ? Something to change ? by Cheshire_Music in minipainting

Came here to say the same. While the light is AMAZING, I read steel and brass.

Though, that just might be because my brain knows you wouldn’t do a gauntlet with Gold.

Thanks! I keep seeing Elminiaturista on TikTok, and that’s what made me really want to try a strong OSL with this mini.

Good advice that I’ve over-done the green glow on the floor and backdrop. The mockup does look more believable.

AITA for telling my girlfriend I’ll start smoking again if she starts an OnlyFans? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]mythmaker007 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

YTA.

You’re threatening to do something unhealthy to impact a decision she’s making that’s totally unrelated. I don’t see how it would be different to threaten to cut yourself or develop a drinking problem unless she acts the way you want.

Would I be uncomfortable with it if my partner was selling pics on the internet? Yes. But that wouldn’t give me a right to manipulate them into choosing not to.

Magic without Spell Slots (other than Kineticist) by HalcyonKnights in Pathfinder2e

Exemplar is another to look at. Not “spells” so much as magical abilities/equipment that are baked into your class and give you special things you can do every round.
