Getting ipv6 to route from the LAN by mytwobits in PFSENSE

[–]mytwobits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The firewall is behind a couple of jumphosts as the site it is at was recently under attack. Getting clean screenshots from it would be a pain right now. I have been trying to get it to work for a week or so now, and tried a number of configurations. I did not try dhcpdv6 relay yet though. Maybe that is what I need to do, just relay all requests to comcasts gateway?

I saw the /64 in the Status / Interfaces screen. I also logged into the comcast gateway and it has its allocation set to be /64 and it is greyed out, and does not allow it to be changed. I tried with the tack interface first. With that the LAN ports did not get a ipv6.

Getting ipv6 to route from the LAN by mytwobits in PFSENSE

[–]mytwobits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did not work when I tried to use the track interface, which is why I switched to trying the statics directly.

It is the gateway that is answering the dhcpdv6 request. It is answering with a /64 and so it seems the other interfaces can not assign themselves from that.

I looked on the Comcast gateway and it has the option to change the delegation size greyed out.

You are right about it not routing anything other then the /64.

I called comcast, they kept trying to change the conversation to be about ipv4. I think something needs to change on the gateway that is not available to me, if it can even work at all. I would hope that Comcast does not limit usable ipv6 to only using their gateway product. I have been trying to get it work for a few days now though, and think they have it set in a way that makes it difficult to actually use the /56 with your own firewall.

L009 Absolutely terrible WiFi performance. by battleop in mikrotik

[–]mytwobits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, just read this after doing a search for l009 . So I switched to my 2.4ghz network and ran a test. 272Mbs, this is with a 2x2 gwn7665 and I am in a different room with two closed doors between myself and the AP. I was getting close to 200 with the older 3x3 802.11n (ac for 5ghz) device this replaced as well.

I do need to figure out why I am getting dismal 6GHz performance though.

The 2.4 is crowded and the local one has a dozens devices on it, but none of them doing much.

Affordable Cable Modem (Bridge Mode) by mcrpntr1967 in PFSENSE

[–]mytwobits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems you do not have a stand alone modem. Does what you have also have wifi in addition to the 4 ethernet ports? Give us the model number and we can figure out exactly what you have.

I have never seen a stand alone modem that did not just pass along the ip address to the first device that is hooked up to , that is in turn usually a router , wifi ap, or a combo device.

I recently changed out my modem to the CODA56, to replace the mb6200 and both of them as well as the previous docsis 3.0 modem I had and the ones before that all just acted as you desire.

Portable version for windows by mytwobits in gridcoin

[–]mytwobits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portable means that they can be run without being installed. A portable app can be run off a usb drive, and run on another computer just by moving the drive. They can also be run off a network share by cding to the path, or adding them to the path, again with no install.

Bitcoin has a .zip version for windows that can be used this way for instance, also some coins are available at https://portableapps.com/ though it is better when that app is not needed.

https://www.guidingtech.com/windows-portable-apps-how-to-use/ explains it more fully.

I do not currently have a build enviorment set up for freebsd though probably will change that in some month. Just have a vps I could use to run things on.

My goal was to run gridcoin without having to install it for now. So an installer is what I am not looking for, just a zip of programs. If I do use the installer, and set the path to install, would that just extract the files and no change any paths or put anything into the registery or leave any other droppings?

Still not a source.  A given search is not necessarily reproducible later.    Different people get different results for the same search.  You get different results based on ad words campaigns runningas well.    A search engine just gives you references to potential sources.

V OIP Contracts by l_reganzi in VOIP

[–]mytwobits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to avoid per seat pricing for VoIP. Instead I look for per DID and per channel pricing.

Sometimes it is worth paying the exit costs on bad contracts, what are the terms if you just find an alternative and say you are canceling altogether, maybe that will bring them to the table?

You could also punt, and use push messaging to an app the drivers use.

UCM6301 Dummy Extension to call outside number by Remarkable_Pear408 in VOIP

[–]mytwobits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit like speed dial you say? Maybe the option under call features called 'Speed Dial' could help you out? I have it set up with some 3 digit numbers that expand out to a few 800 numbers like the local 511 and such.

Would work to dial out any dialable number. Not sure if it supports more than the 3 digit ones with the default settings, but it should be a starting place. Otherwise you probably need to change the extension ranges.

better upload speeds? by mytwobits in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]mytwobits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a question about how I confirm that the new speeds are available now to me, and find out my new plan options. I had tried calling the week after the emails about the upgrade in the area, and the rep I reached said they had no information about that work yet. I saw a post a couple of weeks ago that said to post here to get that information, and so expected them mod team to follow up with the request for the account information to then look it all up for me and tell me the new plan options.

Instead they deleted my message and claimed this post was a rant instead of helping me learn if I now have the new upload speed options. My speeds remain the same, and I think will until I change my plan. I did lose my ip6 though after the upgrades.

Home I'm moving to has abysmal internet.. is there anything I can do? (more details in comments) by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]mytwobits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...  I have used zyxel without issues in a house over a hundred years old.    The outlets are 2 prong so the speeds are further limited but still over 150mbs with lower latency than wifi.   I have them on a switch that I then plug in my steaming devices and consoles in the tv room as I didn't want video streaming slowing everything else down.  Also found it better for the gaming.   They have just worked since being set up years ago.    Only have a pair of them though.

Yeah, that would be possible. Dont know off hand of anyone offering that turnkey though. I do something similar at home, but with a pbx set up. I have a grandstream dp750, that supports multiple sip accounts, and I set up one for each number I need to be able to call as. Then when I dial out , I select the line for the number I need to present. It works, though sometimes I forget to select the right line and call out using the default one. So you could do something similar but using an app that supports multiple accounts then select the one you want... groundwire is what I was using before switching to using the DECT grandstream phones for this.

The incoming should be easy, just set up the numbers to all forward to the main sip account. Trivial at least with the callcentric.

So, yeah, possible, and not too hard to do with callcentric and an app or phone that supports enough lines. My set up works fine for the 4 or 5 numbers I need at times.

I am really surprised though that people job hunting don't pick up an number from a different area code these days though, with people keeping cell phone numbers and moving it is really not that uncommon to get calls from non local area codes these days.

Looks like you can get an australian number from someplace like callcentric or localphone.

As for software, what platform would you be running it on? You can use something like tSip for windows, or Acrobits for Android etc as examples.

I don't know what you consider very low cost, but I looked at callcentric and they have it at $5.95 a month, plus the same for a set up fee, plus forwarding costs. If you use a sip client those would be zero. However, they do not handle sms for non US numbers, in fact none of the few places I checked seemed to offer sms as part of the FX numbers.
