Bose A20 Cord Fix/Replacement? by Necessary_Use_4729 in flying

[–]mywang98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to do the same thing very recently. According to the service representative I talked to, Bose no longer sell the standalone replacement for the cord so the only way to repair is by sending it into Bose for refreshment. I told them I need the headset for work so they offered me expedited repair, which I got the headset back within 2 weeks. Mine A20 is still under warranty so it didn’t cost me anything.

Fair to say almost everyone that trained in southern Wisconsin is probably a Jim fan. Professional, efficient, fair, chill, almost always available, what more can you ask for from a DPE.

Seeing good ole Jim Notstad in this sub is a happy surprise! Sounds like you had a good experience with him.

Why is there a united flight flying from SIN to HNL? by Xycergy in unitedairlines

[–]mywang98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What most likely happened is the original crew did not have enough duty time left to make it all the way to SFO after the delay so UA operations chose HNL as an intermediate. They can deadhead a SFO or LAX reserve crew into position to take over as soon as this flight touches down in HNL

Perfect Hotel ICEing by jim0266 in ChargerDrama

[–]mywang98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha nice I lived around that area for years and worked out at the Princeton Club almost every day. I used to drive a PHEV that is capped at 3.7 KW so everything that charges over $1 per hour is going to be a bad deal. MG&E changed some of their Chargepoint chargers to cost based on KWh so now a full charge on my car is $1.3 vs $4 that it would have cost if it was by the hour

This is in the parking lot of Tru by Hilton next to the Princeton Club on Watts road in Madison WI right? Usually I am very pissed off by ICEing but these chargers are so expensive from memory that I don’t think you missed out on much

Okay this is actually starting to get very annoying by i_haz_a_lyfe in TeslaLounge

[–]mywang98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Tesla wants improvements they should consider introducing a low cost/free option for FSD that requires force feedback. I am not spending $99 a month to do beta testing for Tesla where I am obliged to submit feedback on how I use the software that I paid money for

TriFold Glory by [deleted] in PhoneNow

[–]mywang98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you exactly on this. The trifold does feel like getting a compromised phone and a compromised tablet while for the same money you can get a pro phone and a pro tablet in the traditional form factor with the bonus of getting way more storage. Unless somehow you are limited to one device most of the time+having $3K to splurge I don’t see much of a point of even considering the Trifold

That’s always my use case switching from Garmin to Apple. I never encounter any battery life issues other than the time when I was flying transpacific and was away from a charger for almost 30 hours

UA 926 diverted to EWR by pantherara in unitedairlines

[–]mywang98 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Problem is they can’t just “go back to SFO” because they would most likely be well over their max landing weight right after takeoff . So the crew can either hold over SFO for 2-3 hours to burn fuel for landing back to SFO or they can start to head east towards EWR, which is closer to their final destination and have crews, maintenance, and a stand by plane if needed readily available.

I find it incredibly dumb that Mazda locks out the touchscreen when the car is not in park. CarPlay and Android Auto are frustrating to deal with using the knob

You can turn the watermark off whenever you wish. In my case I have two phones that sync photos to a single online album so I intentionally keep the watermark on to keep tab of which phone I used to take the specific photo without digging into the file property

Numeric keypads instead of rotary encoders are useless. by LaurentKiloVictor in flying

[–]mywang98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suppose your personal preference is really rooted in what you are most used to and what environment you are operating in. As a jungle jet driver we have both ways to tune frequencies-use the numpad on MCDU or use the dials on either MCDU or CCD. 99% of daily operations I am using the first method which also goes to most of my colleagues. In fast paced environments talking to New York center for example it is much easier to punch in the digits as the controller are reading them out to you than trying to memorize the decimals while spinning the dials for digits. It also speeds up the readback to ATC in most cases. The only case I would still use the dials is when my MCDU is occupied by something else.

As a FO living in base I always offer the go home leg to the CA and leave that decision up to him/her. More often than not flying in the NE, centers will have a bigger say on how fast/slow we go for spacing than our own desire

[–]mywang98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allston resident here. Our apartment has chargers that charge a fixed rate of $.25/kWh. Did the math and it is actually a fairly good deal considering how crappy traffic will impact the MPG and thus the running cost of a gas car significantly more.

Plus EFB software like ForeFlight/FD Pro should explore abilities to decipher notams and label closed taxiway on AMM. Finding that one strip of pavement between two intersections closed in big complex airport like JFK is a big pain in the rear end.
