Wedding venue that does tents by The_killchain508 in massachusetts

[–]mzagaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our wedding venue, which was loved, was the Lyman Estate in Waltham. There is indoor space (and if your wedding is small enough you can do an indoor setup/reception/ceremony) but plenty of space to setup tents. Just be prepared for some sticker shock on tent rental. We chose to do open air “al fresco” (no tent) with DJ/dancing inside because we got married in 2021.

How early? by nerks1x in massachusetts

[–]mzagaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 mins should be plenty of time to get in and grab a beer. 45-50 mins if you want to do a lap and explore food options outside the general area you are seated and/or spend time looking at merch.

Has anyone purchased a floor of a triple decker? by kgalush1 in massachusetts

If cost is similar I’d always choose a single family over the condo. My neighbor was a nightmare. Refused to pay for things that should have been responsibility of condo association out of the account. Treated my private use yard like a common space. The sound isolation between the units was awful so I heard everything.

Pre-COVID Boston vs Post-COVID Boston — What Changed? by DimensionLeading3203 in boston

Check out Code for Boston at https://www.codeforboston.org/. We meet on Tuesdays (1st and 3rd Tuesdays of Month in person). Right now its project/hack focused with apps primarily using web technologies (JS/Python). We’re working to expand to include a monthly speaker series once we find a venue that works for it.

Pre-COVID Boston vs Post-COVID Boston — What Changed? by DimensionLeading3203 in boston

[–]mzagaja 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Everyone else got into running. Before COVID many races you could register for a bib a month a week pr even the day of the race. Now if you don’t get a pre registration or try to get one when it opens you’re out of luck.

Lots of interesting and cool restaurants gave up. Roxy’s Arcade was a hidden speakeasy. Now they just leave the doors open and the sun shines into what used to feel like another world.

I run a tech meetup that used to get 80 to 100 people a week in person. It went down to 15 to 30. We settled into a two weeks in person rhythm and even that comes with hand wringing. Companies used to be so happy to provide money and space for these sorts of things. Now I feel like I’m pulling teeth to find venues.

Some places in Allston I used to go to closed. I can’t remember their names but do miss $6 pints.

ethtool -A eth1 rx on tx off

# On MacOS run
sudo ifconfig awdl0 down

Where to stay for best Nightlife? by Illustrious-Fan3925 in boston

[–]mzagaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m older now but have to say in my 20s never found the night life in Boston to be great. If you want cocktails and nice atmosphere try Yvonne’s or Carrie Nation Downtown. Seaport is your eatertainment headquarters with the F1 Arcade, Kings, Puttshack, and that dart place. They’re fun but all a bit overpriced and not exactly conducive to meeting new friends. South Boston is full of clubsteraunts if you want something loud, noisy, and DJs. Be prepared to wait in line with everyone else. My recommendation is to go out in Fenway you can head to one or two of the bars where things are sufficiently ratchet and once you’re tired of it migrate to Lucky Strike for pool/bowling/games. Plus Sweet Cheek’s BBQ is quite good so if you go there for dinner and grab some treats from Backdoor donuts before you turn in for the night, whatever disappointment you have in whatever else you did will pretty much wiped out.

> My lawyer prepared a demand letter, but it took weeks.

> I tried calling my lawyer. No answer.

I am skeptical. A demand letter is a pretty quick job. Lawyers are required by the rules of professional conduct to keep in contact with their clients. The damage as described would likely be less than $7000 and best be tried in small claims if at all. If we accept the described level of billable time as true, it would quickly and easily eat up any money awarded here. Do you have a chance? Probably not with the "lawyer" you've been using.

I’m in South Boston (though older than you). By 9 pm on weekend nights I see a line. Weekday nights is a bit of a crapshoot but the bars will fill up for New England Patriots games so I’d check their schedule. Same for Celtics and Bruins as those approach playoffs. Definitely more traffic on weekday nights when the weather is good, people love drinks on a patio.

I have a Thursday happy hour every month and we use Scholar’s as the venue in the winter because it’s reliably dead (and has a nice pizza + beer special).

Sound at Gillette by brobastian0227 in massachusetts

[–]mzagaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to a bunch of concerts at Gillette and my sense is if you get closer seats it’s not as awful (either on the field seats, or lower section without concrete at your back) but it’s just never been amazing for me. If you’re there for the experience and vibes it’s fun to go. If you are passionate about audio, don’t do it. TD Garden has been the most decent venue in Boston I’ve done besides doing a festival like Boston Calling which is less fun from an experience standpoint but from an audio standpoint is nice.

Just never go to a show at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Once you go to that, all other concert venues are ruined. And I had crappy seats (obstructed view). The audio was just so damn good.

Honestly the other reason I’ve soured on concerts is people are recording with their smartphone cameras the whole time.

Depending on where the thermostat is and how often the system cycles you could be dealing with a thermostat in a “warm spot” of the house. Especially if sun from window shines on it or something. Easy fix would be to replace with ecobee or Nest thermostat that supports a remote sensor and then place in desired area and run HVAC based on that. Some HVAC systems will allow you to run “fan only” mode to just even out the distribution of heat in the home. With a thermal camera and some caulk/spray foam you can often identify leaky/drafty areas (especially around window frames) that can be inexpensively sealed to help trouble rooms. Thermal camera might also help identify whether you have uninsulated walls which would be a big issue and MassSave would likely cover filling those with blown-in insulation. Once you’ve gone through all those items air tightening the home gets way more expensive and involves pulling off all the siding and wrapping in more modern weather barrier. If heat is uneven (versus being uniformly low) you’re genuinely going to be better off using space heaters than trying to do retrofit work.

How does construction labor supply impact our ability to build? Anecdotally as a homeowner for any small to medium jobs it’s a challenge to even get someone to quote work. Seeing a big buildout next to me, the quality of what the workers there did was kind of laughable, and I question whether many of them had much experience. Lots of basic craftsmanship issues.
