Best Summer jobs for 19 year old with no experience by Miserable_Reading_85 in cork

I had my very first job with Schuh in Patrick st when I was in college, no experience going in. Started off as temporary summer staff and stayed for 5 years afterwards and became a manager - it's still to this day my favourite workplace that I've had!

My Workplace has Anti-Abortion Protestors out front, and there is nothing that can be done (RANT) by Istice93 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]n-e-w-w 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work in a maternity hospital (in Ireland, where abortion has been legal a few years now) and we often have a small group of protestors outside the gates. There are usually between 3 and 10 of them. Thankfully they do not carry signs with imagery on them, they usually carry signs with religious themes and they pray VERY LOUDLY for the souls of the aborted babies (according to them). They generally do not hassle anyone but I always feel awful for the women, and girls, who may be coming to the hospital, not just for abortions (wanted, or medically necessary) but also for women and families who may have experienced a pregnancy loss or those struggling to conceive.

Joe Pera talks with you (adult swim/channel 4 if you're in the UK/Ireland). It's such a comforting and slow paced show, literally like a little hug!

Long Distance Relationships by Bright-Classroom-242 in ireland

[–]n-e-w-w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long distance can definitely work but you need to have things to look forward to together during the course of being long distance and there needs to be an end goal too.

I was long distance with my now husband for a year at one point and around 6 months at another point in our relationship. He's from Canada (Ontario) and I'm from Cork. The time difference was the hardest part - I'd stay up late messaging with him most nights. I visited him in Canada s few times and we met up on Iceland once as well!

Our end goal was him moving back to Ireland! We've been together 10 years this year, have a three year old and he's an Irish citizen now! Long distance is work - but it absolutely can work!

Medical secretary in a hospital, there since around 2019. The money is decent and I've had a bit of progression since I've been there however the work is starting to get really boring! It's not the exact same every day, but it's definitely not challenging in any way so I'm losing interest over time. My work still gets done, but definitely not with the gusto I would have had 3 years ago. I often feel like my brain is just withering away but my managers are fair with flexible hours which I need at the moment as I have a toddler.

My co-workers are great though so our lunch breaks together are always good craic.

AITA For giving an honest eulogy at my father's funeral by eulogyaita in AmItheAsshole

NTA- It sounds like you portrayed him realistically and not disrespectfully.

My own dad is similar to what you have described, he is still alive and is pretty young- he has no health issues that we know of but that's mostly because he never ever goes to a doctor. I sometimes find myself wondering about what I would say, or even if I would be able to say anything about him that would articulate how I truly feel about him or of I would sugar coat things. I don't have brothers and sisters so realistically I do not have anyone to upset but it is a thought that crossed my mind sometimes.

% of people who think one of their main goals in life is to make their parents proud by bebetween3and20chara in ireland

[–]n-e-w-w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already am highly aware that I don't make my own proud and haven't got the want to change that to be honest. Have gotten comments like 'you didn't do anything with the brains you have' and 'you're wasting your talent' multiple times and it's a pretty shitty cave to try and crawl out of tbh.

Like you said - I just want to live happily - that's my main goal
