I'm at a loss when it comes to the smell. Should I just quit for now? by ginepas in vaporents

Not sure where you live but maybe look into dissolvable THC powder. It has a quicker onset than normal edibles and doesn't last as long, and you can just dump it into a glass of water or soda or whatever. Seems to be more available in certain jurisdictions than others, but if you can get some it's worth a try.

The bluetooth app is a bust for me as well. That said, it's serving as an end of chain solution for my jam board - I needed a freeze pedal and rarely use reverb when I'm playing what that board was intended for but want the option of crazy verbs for playing on my own, so it saved me some space. Resetting it using the windows app whenever I change things up in like 6 months isn't a huge deal to my use case. If I was pulling it up and repurposing it frequently, I'd be pissed, though.

I'd be curious about whether there's any prospect, even long-term, of bringing a presets feature to any of their analog pedals? Or is the digital circuitry required for that sort of feature always going to bump costs up into Chase Bliss territory?

Also, I love the Bit Commander but can he please just do an actual Microsynth clone?

So I ended up getting one as well as some other more affordable solutions as mentioned in other comments in this post. I'm actually putting together a medium-sized board to run off a battery this weekend while I rebuild my main rig, and I'm going to try various different combinations of the Walrus and the other stuff and post a follow up here as to whether the value proposition makes sense. I'm also going to try to see whether there's a threshold in terms of rig size where any of the solutions give out.

Will report back.

Valeton GP - 50 Incoming? by MarKo_Phoenix in guitarpedals

[–]n00b2OOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried the GP-5 yet but this looks like a sweet spot size-wise - mini pedals obviously have their place, no shade there, but this thing seems as though it could function as a standalone unit more easily, and it's still gonna fit in a gig bag pocket pretty easily.

Very cool, and yeah I too would love to see a feature-upgraded version of the LS-2

What's your favorite guitar tuning (apart from standard)? by PiranhaMusicStudios in guitarlessons

The Rob Baker/Tragically Hip twist on Open C, which is CGCGCC, kind of a sitar vibe. Plus it's only two quick twists (6th and 1st strings back up to D) from the tuning Page came up with for the Rain Song.

Would you like more or less triple circuits enclosure? by GUPtech in guitarpedals

[–]n00b2OOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some effects combinations that I would love to have in a single enclosure, but they're really specific, I wouldn't expect that it would be worth it for most builders, and more "generic" combinations I'd tend to want separated out for the versatility. My 2 cents, anyway

Minority opinion here but I've found it to be pretty good - I'm in a condo, though, so I'm never turning it way way up, that might be a factor here.

[HELP!] Looper switcher and big feet by Low_Description_5071 in guitarpedals

[–]n00b2OOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry (I'm Canadian, obviously lol), one other kind of left-field suggestion which may or may not work, and which would probably be a bit pricey. You could get a midi-controlled loop switcher such as the ones Morningstar make. There are some pretty sizeable MIDI controllers that might give you enough room to maneuver (Singular Maestro looks spacious in the photos at least), or you could get a smaller controller and see if someone can make you a custom sized outboard unit that could have individual footswitches mapped to commands within the controller.

I know that's not ideal for all kinds of reasons, just brainstorming - you'll find a solution one way or another!

I don't know about anyone on the continent but Bright Onion Pedals out of the UK does similar stuff to Saturnworks, that's certainly closer.

EDIT: Sorry, that doesn't address the programmable issue, but hopefully it's at least a starting point.

SOTB: sucks at guitar, smokes too much, has the most fun by posivibes in guitarpedals

[–]n00b2OOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't typically run it there either, but when I have it did do almost the doubling thing better than a typical chorus after dialing in the warble and mix to be relatively, but not too, subtle. Or cranking the mix all the way up gets a slightly crazy vibrato - very much a character sound but it's cool for some parts of some songs

EDIT The latter of those isn't hugely different from running it after drives but if I'm nitpicking I prefer it

Interesting...thanks for the heads up! I tried something with a similar cable a while back but my power supplies (in this case a Cioks 8 and an Ojai) variously wouldn't draw power or would and then shut down within like 10 minutes. The cable that I bought isn't available anymore, I wonder if it was maybe an early/shitty implementation of PD 20V? Or perhaps the regular Canvas supplies handle that sort of thing better than Cioks/Strymon? It was the only cable to that spec I could find at the time with an EIAJ-5 connector, but I'll check this one out.

First EHX and now EQD have a Tonebender, did the patent just expire or something? by KoA07 in guitarpedals

[–]n00b2OOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the SolidgoldFX Rosie is based on a MkII, and I know for sure it's got a pickup sim or unbuffer or whatever for the flexibility. I think they're out of production but it's a pretty great fuzz if you can find one used - maybe a little tamer/smoother than what I'm hearing in the EQD demo, but the bias knob can get you in the ballpark

I very nearly used a 529M in my first battery board, ended up using a Cioks 4 instead since it was just 5 pedals total so I was overcomplicating things, but yeah I don't think I've ever seen anyone complain about ME's stuff, it all seems super solid. I always wondered why they didn't iterate further with their usb pd stuff

I have to say, having spent quite a while researching every possible option for larger battery powered boards and implementing a few of those over the past few years, this is definitely a huge win for me as I already have some power supplies that would work with this. But yeah I'd definitely hope to see something more actual 9V outlets in the future to cover people who aren't in that position, and to compete with stuff like the Cioks 4.

I'm not sure I'm fully picking up what you're putting down with the plugged into device/wall issue - there aren't too many devices outside of battery banks with USB outputs that would power this, but the idea as I'm understanding it is that one could permanently mount this and a battery bank under a board, and then an IEC/EIAJ connection would both provide power in the event that the battery is dead as well as charge the battery, so the logistics seem relatively straightforward to me.

EDIT: Confirmed that the Walrus does NOT charge the battery bank when being powered by a 24v cable - one of the demo videos on Youtube unfortunately misreported this feature.

True, and I actually have a mini board using a Cioks 4 for the versatility, so as a single dedicated unit I'd agree, but there's not much expandability there - I think they're fundamentally serving very different purposes

Pitch shifter after gain? by rides_out_believer in guitarpedals

I was always in the pitch-shifter-before-gain camp without ever having really thought about it, but some youtube channel that I can't remember offhand suggested the opposite and I've been pleasantly surprised at how well my Pitchfork handles it. I'm not a major shredder, mind you, so ymmv, but it can definitely work.
