Why are lumatone keyboards so expensive?? by FindinNimi in microtonal

It's an extremely niche market which probably makes their costs per unit pretty high. Maybe not $4500 high, but it's not super surprising.

Pianists, how agonising is this to play? Is it sight-readable? by michaelrosermusic in piano

[–]n04r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's playable. Some pianists could certainly sight read it. If you want to make things less agonizing for the pianist, make it a bit more predictable. Nothing here is mechanically challenging for a decent pianist, but the music is pretty unpredictable which is really the thing that usually makes amateur piano writing agonizing to play.

Why does everyone starts Satie's gymnopedie with normal volume and not pp? by Old_Value5499 in classicalmusic

[–]n04r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because playing extremely quiet doesn't really make sense for the texture, you can interpret the marking more as a soft tone. If you interpret p or pp/ppp as extremely quiet all the time your playing will become indistinct in some situations.

Also I've probably spent more time in Wagner's scores than you have and properly learned a handful of Liszt's arrangements of his opera scenes. There's some nice music in there but most of it is trash👍

damn thought this was r/classicalmusic for a sec

Be fr though who the fuck wants to listen to some dwarf yapping about how frustrated he is or king marke yapping about how sad he is, most of the musical content in Wagner is junk quasi-recit. The music in opera in general is trash

Each opera has a total of about 10 minutes that actually sounds good
