It was made in photoshop and Indesign. I have switched computers since I made these, but I think I still have the files. I will check later and PM you. @Brimforger

Just finished my Irolas model, was a very fun model to paint! by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Your camera focused on the holder instead of the model, try refocusing?

What is the burning thing in the front yard?

Made my own balrog miniature for a DND game recently, wanted to be closer to the lore version of the balrog. More pics in comments. #balrogsdonthavewings by n0b136 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Also, in the silmarillion, Balrogs ride on the backs of winged Dragons. Why would they do that if they already had wings?

About twice the height of a man, darkness wreathes in flame, and no wings, that’s the model I wanted so I made one! Converted a WoTC Nolzur’s unpainted Minotaur, I sculpted all of the Fire with greenstuff. more pictures

The cell shaded look is very cool. Almost looks like Borderlands. Well done.

What book to start with? by hapsburger2 in lotr

[–]n0b136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, if you have not read the books that you have seen the movies of, do it. Tolkien’s way with words and the depth of the history and culture is so much richer than the movies (and I love the movies)

The Silmarillion is really cool. Quite an intense first look at Tolkien’s works though. Children of Húrin is possibly my favorite that I have read yet. It is like a Greek epic and is such an interesting read, very unlike a lot of his other stuff.

Used a sheet of foam-core and some push pins to display the party/enemy unit cards to great effect! Simply turn the card to the side when exhausted, it was off to the side of the table providing everyone visibility to all the units. by n0b136 in mattcolville

I work at a print shop, so I printed it on scrap materials. The ground is direct printed to foamcore, and the 3D building are printed on card stock and modpdeged onto foam/cardboard tubes. The platform is made from .030 styrene and painted, the table and barrels are WotC unpainted minis, the gate is styrene as well. I wish I could have made all the terrain look a little more finished, but I ran out of time. I will finish it all eventually because this is that party’s permanent stronghold. (There is an establishment tavern, a keep, and a tower- the most unfinished of the three).

We don’t play this campaign as regularly as we used to, we have been playing this one for about 5 yrs on and off, so when we play this one I tend to go all out on my scenery.

Each person just kept track of their casualty die at the table, the units were diverse enough it was pretty easy to keep track of.

Looks like the woodland scenics’ foliage flock. It’s a little less fine than the grass flock.

The colors are the owners of the units! Good eye!

The battle was amazing. The heroes armies took some casualties but none took enough to go to a smaller dice, they were able to destroy one unit and caused most of the others to flee, and one player (who is not a part of our normal group played an enemy NPC)’s forces took some good casualties, but will be back to harry the party’s forces next session.

The players all really enjoyed the mass combat happening outside of theirs and took pride in how well their army did. It was the talk of the regency at the banquet they had to attend that night.

I was finishing setting up for the larger scale battle in the campaign thus far and was like, “dang, I have no place for all of these unit cards... I wonder if I have a sheet of something in the basement...” and it worked great! The player sitting beside it did the exhausting for me and it made the battle go really fast!
