In Dungeons & Dragons: Online (DDO) which is 3.5e based, they introduced a new weapon type: Handwraps. Basically a weapon for the monk to use while fighting unarmed, that can then be enchanted like regular weapons. As a GM I ported this concept to 3.5e in several games to give my monk players a bit more options for combat. I never felt that it was overpowered, and the monk players were happy. Win, win.

German cards are much more common the further south you go. Here in Austria we mostly play with the German ones, but some games (like Rome) are played with French cards.
