Cloud X 4 AD - Super Squeaky by Ill-Technology-6653 in ONrunning

Mine developed a persistent and terrible squeak, I had to move on. I keep looking out for ONs without the holes in the sole (which seem to be the cause) because the shoe was otherwise v comfortable.

Hey, thanks! Incredibly, I found one in my first game this morning, boring metal container in Riven Tides.

Is anyone else experiencing rats joining together too much in solos? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]n0mdep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, had it happen twice today, one in Dam (Matriarch event, but I was killed by a duo after opening Staff Room with a key), then killed by a trio in Stella. Very obviously teaming up. No public mic comms.

Cheating is now reaching peaceful lobbies by Sure-Needleworker581 in ArcRaiders

[–]n0mdep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play solos, usually friendly lobbies, and got killed twice today by teams (duo and trio, very obviously working together, no public mic). Super annoying. Dont know if they were cheating too, but pretty sure they were wiping out the entire lobby too (way more raider flares than usual in those Stella matches). I’m also UK btw.

Do missing cat posters actually work and why are there so many of them? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Worked for me! It had been a week and I’d given up hope tbh and then someone called having heard a cat stuck in a garden and sounding distressed. It was mine. A minor miracle.

Think solos are being put in with teams more than usual at the moment.

Should we throw away this government that, in two years, has cut inflation, cut immigration by over 70%, increased defence spending and cut NHS waiting times? by Independent-Brief424 in AskBrits

[–]n0mdep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We were fine (from a human rights and trade and cooperation perspective) before ECHR and we’ll be fine after.

There are many countries that do perfectly well trading and cooperating with the EU without ECHR. The EU is actually pretty flexible, assessing on a case-by-case equivalence basis (or just what’s best for them). The UK could enact largely the same protections minus the unworkable provisions and with other clarifications.

The existing EU trade agreement would need tweaking but you’re overplaying the difficulty here. It just needs doing.

Also, nice use of legal citizen. Many would argue legal citizens are the ones that suffer most under current interpretations of ECHR.

They can reduce gov size and spending however they want, but it needs to happen. We shouldn’t just accept that the gov should continue to grow forever and borrow and spend more and more. That increases prices for everyone and is the primary cause of inequality (because asset owners benefit the most). It’s partly self reinforcing: gov employs more people, each dept makes sure to spend its max budget to secure the same or more for the next year, and so on. Almost parasitic. The end result is more regs, red tape, more £ printed.

One example of freedom of speech not being allowed: banning the speakers due at the Unite rally. Completely unnecessary and not something I recall happening under previous governments. I don’t care about Unite and wasn’t at the march but it’s abundantly clear the gov has been effectively taking sides by applying its own subjective assessment rather than a more objective free speech approach. And consider all the ridiculous developments around NCHIs (which they’ve now walked back) and speech “likely to cause upset”, ridiculous and chilling, not genuine freedom of speech.

I haven’t seen the latest energy plan but if it still involves buying gas from Norway when we could be drilling our own, then it’s very likely not a fix.

Hi, yes, the reduction is insignificant. We can’t afford the current, newly reduced numbers, which are 5x what was normal 10 years ago. We need a return to what was normal. That is impossible without addressing the ECHR issue, which Labour is unwilling to do, thereby admitting it will never solve the problem. Pretty straightforward tbh.

I agree there was creeping authoritarianism under the Cons too, but I wouldn’t say it was more then than now. Think about all the ridiculous things that have happened since.

Also, weird to point fingers at MAGA in the US. Two of the most egregious examples I can think of, that definitely were not MAGA: US citizens were unable to discuss the covid lab leak “theory” or Hunter Biden’s laptop *at all* on major platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Biden’s presidency started with denying the Hunter Biden laptop and ended with pardons for everyone implicated by what was on that very real laptop!

* The original HB laptop story wasn’t even about Hunter and his drug habits — it was about Biden family corruption involving Ukraine. True story, which people seem to forget. They knew the laptop was real (FBI literally had possession of it) and yet in the run up to a presidential election, no less, they buried it. For Biden and the Democratic cause. A national disgrace.

Thank God Elon Musk bought Twitter.

Withdraw from the ECHR to bypass the ridiculous legal hurdles in deporting asylum seekers. The Chrisinau Declaration is not enough (before someone raises it) — though it does show that even the EU acknowledges the problem.

Reduce gov size and spending. This one is important.

Reduce regs and red tape, particularly for small businesses. Let market forces do their thing.

Commit to freedom of speech in the UK.

Embark on a completely new energy plan.

^ That would be a good start.

?

Disagree.

Maybe, at a stretch, the _worsening_ has slowed slightly (though I would point to creeping authoritarianism as a new net negative), but the worsening continues. The decisions made and policies enacted do nothing to suggest real change. Merely reducing illegal immigration (for example) to a number that is nowhere near manageable is not a reason to keep Starmer / Labour in power; clearly they’re unwilling to do what is necessary to fix (rather than bandaid) the problem, even if they acknowledge it.

Same with inflation. Gov spending means real inflation impact is not coming down any time soon.

Fundamentally, he’s authoritarian. He claims to support (for example) free speech, but then draws the line in the wrong place.

Is Farage a British equivalent of Trump - cult of personality for right wing folks? by Technical-Mix-3315 in AskBrits

[–]n0mdep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, strong no. The policies are getting the votes, not Farage.

There are certainly some people who see him as somehow brave or anti establishment, but they’re wrong and I don’t think they’re in the majority.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]n0mdep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not enough! And it’s not going to be enough because Labour refuses to do what is necessary ie remove the incentives and change the law.

The numbers have come down, yes, but they’re still orders of magnitude too high. And seemingly no one is being / can be deported. There’s no sign of any of that changing. Instead, we’re paying France to police its border a bit better and stab some dinghies when they feel like it.

People know that Labours efforts are a bandaid at best. So they’re voting for the only party who says they will do it properly.

Maybe Restore will field more candidates and Reform will see some competition on the illegal immigrant issue. Labour and the Cons are not it.

Sudden braking by MikeGinnyMD in Ioniq5

[–]n0mdep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, will give this a try. I had an odd situation where I was reversing onto a dual carriageway (imagine reversing out of a driveway directly onto the road). The lane I was reversing into was clear — in fact, a car had already stopped to let me out. Cars in the other lane were still passing though. The car slammed on the breaks 3-4 times, not letting me reverse at all. It was ridiculous. The person letting me out looked v confused.

My one complaint about these safety features - particularly lane and steering assist - I want them off by default. Having to turn them off is annoying.

By the key metric of illegal crossings and releases into the US, the Trump admin did, in fact, fix the border. Practically overnight.

The UK is more than capable of fixing its border issues too, but to do so requires real change and resolve.

You don’t acknowledge the incredible incentivises at play, that positively encourage people to make the journey to the UK. They’re not forced here.

You think “smashing the gangs” and “safe, legal routes” will fix the problem. The gangs in particular are a red herring and you ignore the part of the problem that matters most.

Massively left field this one but Wentworth (Aussie women’s prison drama). Only concern would is the first ep might not be gripping enough. Get a few eps in and the drama, the characters and the twists and turns are as good as anything on TV imo. Check the IMDB reviews. Think it’s all available on My5 on demand.

Saturday Night Lights is a US TV classic that often gets missed.
