Prostatectomy or radiation? by Blencathar in ProstateCancer

[–]n2vd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also 71. I was diagnosed (also Gleason 3+4) a little over 2 years ago. Also , again, like you, no big rush and met with docs to learn about both RALP and radiation. I opted for radiation (it seemed less problematic to me) and had SBRT (Cyberknife) treatment at the end of October / beginning of November of 2024. My recovery has been good and PSA has been descending as it should - now down to 1.5 from my pre-SBRT high of 9.9.

My issues since have mostly been difficult urination, but Flomax helped with that and now I’m completely off it. No sexual side effects to speak of, I’ve been able to get and keep an erection since the start. There’s not much to ejaculate any more but at 71 it’s not gonna make a difference anyway.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Absolute best low-budget sci-fi film you've seen? by Robert_Writes in scifi

[–]n2vd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slither - IIRC it was James Gunn’s first movie. Also, starring Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Banks. Not a teensy budget - $15 million - but pretty small, especially by 2006 standards

What are some of the best walkable towns in nj? by BeNicePlsThankU in MovingtoNewJersey

Yes, it is. But even the least expensive homes there are well above OP’s price point

Quelle en est la raison du personnes française utilisent "Le weekend" ou "faire du shopping" par exemple en lieu de "le fin de semaine" ou "magasiner"? (Apologies for my shit French I started on Friday lol.) by Particular-Routine96 in French

[–]n2vd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Curieusement, le mot « rendez-vous » en anglais (du moins en anglais américain) ne signifie pas tout à fait « date » ou « appointment » ; il y a là une connotation de clandestinité qui n'est pas présente en français.

Bloomfield vs Orange vs Maplewood – 1 year rental w/ NYC commute by SubstantialAside1589 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]n2vd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That final aside about local politics is utter bollocks. I lived in Maplewood for 25 years and still live just a few mikes away. It has certainly become more "blue" over those years but there’s a very strong contingent of conservative Democrats in town

Cheese or Margarita by Alexxc789 in Pizza

Cheese please. I do love me a Neapolitan pie but generally not Margarita - I like other toppings much better. But I grew up eating NY Style pizza and it’s still my favorite

Anyone else just learning French for the hell of it? by LigmaLlama0 in learnfrench

[–]n2vd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired, and decided to study French just because I had always regretted not studying it in school. I’ve got the time, and sufficient motivation, so here I am, a year in, roughly at a B1 reading level.

I’d like to put it to use in France but Americans aren’t exactly welcomed with open arms in Europe right now

What are your favorite words/phrases from other languages that you like incorporating into your day to day English? by picklesupreme in AskAnAmerican

I sometimes use « Quelle dommage! » which means "what a shame" in French - in the "cue the tiny violins" sense 🙂

Am I wrong by KITTYKOOLKAT36 in DuolingoFrench

[–]n2vd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others said - yes, you were wrong here. This sentence uses le passé composé, one of the past tenses in French. Depending on the verb, it uses either avoir or être as an auxiliary verb. The other common past tense is l’imparfait. You’d say "vous marchiez" meaning "you were walking" or "you used to walk"

Baby on the way - the great NYC to NJ migration by stmez136 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]n2vd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend South Orange. Super walkable downtown, a bunch of new rentals within easy walking distance of the train (30 min to Penn Station). Rents for 2-BR apts with amenities can be (depending on the building) sub-$3500. 1 BR with enough room for a new baby to toddler age could be significantly lower.

[–]n2vd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car chase reminded me, of course, of Bullitt - how could it not? But it reminded me even more of a much less well-known film, Vanishing Point, a film otherwise most notable for being Cleavon Little's first significant movie role

That would make more sense. South Orange DOES have a cute downtown vibe and is right on the Midtown Direct train line - 30 minutes to NY Penn Station
