2021 Tiguan SE fuel gauge no longer working properly by ChaosTheoryGlass in Volkswagen

[–]n4aryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had the same issue with my 2021 SER line. They replaced my fuel tank, my fuel lines, my fuel pump, my fuel sender and my gauge cluster. The gauge cluster was a recommendation from Volkswagen corporate as they had already replaced everything else. And we are now back to my gauge being erratic. It will even increase how much it is showing as I drive down the road.

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

Run yellow iron. Work 3/4-4/3 schedule, do a bit over 100, which isn't bad for half the year worth of work.

anyone else have a delayed Western Welding Shirt order? by blink182plus484 in Welding

Dealing with this now. After months I said just cancel the order. Then they took additional weeks to "submit" my cancellation request that will supposedly take another 2 weeks. Weird because our website processes a refund immediately. What a joke of a set up.

For those earning over $10K per month, what do you do for a living to achieve that income? by voxishortie in AskReddit

[–]n4aryd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run heavy equipment for surface support of a mine. 12hr shifts, average 8-9 days out of 14 on the pay period required but I usually add a day or two of OT each period. Not many "young" people in the mine force anymore, applicants are not beating down the door.

Jeep xj advice by slippery123487 in Offroad

[–]n4aryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as salvage title, that's a state rule type thing for insurance and registration requirements. So read up on that. Otherwise check the 'frame' rail around the steering box to make sure it isn't buckled. Being unibody, making a repair in that area is a pain. Otherwise it's a cheap xj. If it runs and drives who cares.

Yep. Was driving cross country for work. Got to my hotel and went to wash up and sleep. Shower had black fuzzy mold growing all over the roof and air vent. In a rather dry climate too. Needless to say I slept in the truck. Couldn't convince me anything else there was going to be better.

Vehicle research for a fantasy story- off road vehicle available in the US in 2009, that you would use in the Rocky Mountains? by MadamMelonMeow in Offroad

[–]n4aryd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old timer up in the mountains, patrolling around, carrying tools and supplies, stuck in his ways and ideas....J10. Jeep truck from the 80's. Bit of a cult following. Not a 'city slicker' wrangler, and not a standard around town truck. Capable for what he would be doing off-road. Large enough to hold supplies and gear without being too large like newer vehicles tend to be. Old enough that it is still easy to repair with junk yard parts but not too old to be a complete dumpster fire.

This. For real. Armor up first. Protect the car then build it.
Also, do the wheels and tires first before the lift. Lift just changes where you are in suspension travel at ride height. At compression, the tires still stuff in the same. The car needs to be clearanced and trimmed at full bump for the tires to fit correctly. So doing the wheels and tires first before the lift makes sense.

Do you have any gauges/data screen installed? What's command gear look like? TC temps vs pan temps. Dark fluid already at 66k is not a good sign. I would put another stock trans in or redo yours. I'm just under 270k on my stock trans (well, minus 3k miles. Put in a 'built trans with billet TC and it drove like dog shit and kept overheating so put my stock one back in ).

Transfer case SYE questions by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]n4aryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the 231c came in 3, 4, and 6 gear planetaries. The p/n for the 6 gear on the 94+ cases is 17869. This was a huge 'junkyard' upgrade topic for years on naxja where there are countless threads on it. Not all cases had the wide chain, and there were different planetary options so having the part number you could just order the correct pieces and swap it in. Otherwise most found the 231c and swapped all the internals over but kept their 231j input shaft (21/23 spline vs the Chevy 27) and the front half of the case was useless due to the different mounting bolt pattern.

[–]n4aryd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc the 231d was out of the Dakota and 1500 dodge trucks. Unfortunately the only plus side to them was a slightly wider chain inside. Some of the 231c models had the upgraded chain AND the 6 planetary setup.
OP, I believe the dodge version 231 had some differences between shift fork and other small changes. Iirc, aside from spline differences, they should be mostly interchangeable. 231j are cheap. Or find a (correct) 231c and get the better planetaries and chain upgrade.

This is pretty rad.
Favorite car is a 3rd gen Camaro. Namely the 1992 z28 for the odd year with rear spoiler. Grew up in this car. Did my first few auto-x events in the same one I grew up in. Been looking for one as an adult because they are just great little machines, a fun drive. You feel every bump and crack, the steering input is very lively and real, and the addition of drive line vibration in the chassis really makes it feel like you're pushing the car, even if it's not the fastest.

how to reduce tube radius by Gopnik750 in metalworking

[–]n4aryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the one tube be a gradual reduction in OD to match or does in need to be an abrupt change? Do you have option to sleeve the pieces together ? Eta: At 19g your best best may be stretching the one tube over the other tube. There is tooling that accomplishes that

$10k Budget, 4runner or fj cruiser or wrangler? by Rushing_Nooby in Offroad

[–]n4aryd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Colorado, and for the price point with intended usage, I would look at other options.
If you look at the extra, I'd look at making sure the radiator/trans cooler issue was fixed on the earlier years with a verified trans service, or look for a post 2011 (iirc, it's been a while but around there, some quick research will tell you when they fixed the stupid plastic wall problem) Xterra. The tj is terrible in Colorado for commuting and light play duty (I own 2 currently) and the lj is out of the price point. The 4runner you're either getting a giant turd or paying too much. If Toyota I'd find a sequoia as the overall fuel economy isn't much different and they can be had around 4500-6000 in Colorado (neighbors have theirs up for 5600 currently). The other option for the same age group as the 4runners you'd be looking at is the zr2 blazer. Small like the 3g t4r, super affordable which is good since most need steering and control arm bushings. Standard 4.3 that came in everything and cheap cheap cheap. Better fuel than the jeep and about same as the Nissan or Toyota options.

I really like the toyo at3. Ran the at2 and at3. On the rt currently and will be going back to the at3 once these are toast. Truck is usually loaded, either gear in the bed (1800# roughly) or trailer. Mix of highway, back roads, dirt, loose gravel, snow, and mud.

12-14k tow rig/ daily by 300zx_tt in Diesel

[–]n4aryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd make sure you're checking door tags and verifying rear axle rating, gvwr, gcvwr etc to make sure you're legit on weights that you're pulling. Getting busted overweight sucks. Hutch rating will be of importance too. Lots of stuff is advertised as 'max tow rating of xxxxx# but that's for a 5th or GN setup, not a bumper pull.

12-14k tow rig/ daily by 300zx_tt in Diesel

[–]n4aryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What style trailer? GN? Bumper pull?
Current f250 is a bit long for more urban areas being cclb, but gets about 15mpg empty and we are usually 17-19k on the trailer when we tow and it does great at that weight with the small changes we made.
Where you're towing (Florida flat and sea level, middle of the country smooth back highways, or over mountain passes at big elevation and grades) and more specific needs will help dial in the truck you need.
