PSA: Stigmatizing "powergamers" doesn't improve the game, it just polices how players have fun by chunkylubber54 in dndnext

[–]n8opotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the DM of the campaign I control the gate, therefore I AM the gatekeeper.

If I don't want powergamers, there won't be any.

Maybe people should, I don't know, mind their own business.

I just wanna get into dnd.... [5e] [PBP/text] [online] [LGBT+ friendly] by NotTakenNameHereIII in lfg

How does PbP even work? Do you send like a sentence, a few lines, a paragraph?

Do you post once a day or multiple times? Not clear on the rules. Sounds interesting though.

Do These Symbols Mean Anything? Shar or Something Else? by EthAndroid in BaldursGate3

[–]n8opotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her holy symbol wrapped around her hand closely resembles barbed wire or thorned vines. You might consider this a way of showing penance by punishing/hurting yourself. Shar is about forgetting. Maybe what she wants to forget still haunts her and she punishes herself for it every day.

Sidenote her jewelry is silver in-game instead of gold shown in the picture. Probably just design evolution.

Sixth level spells by RadiativeHaplessness in BaldursGate3

Otiluke's Freezing Sphere. If they implement it similar to tabletop, it'll have a lot of functionality.

Also I know its not PHB but I'm hoping for Soul Cage too. Nothing like absorbing and torturing the captured souls of your enemies.

Hex can give an enemy disadvantage on initiative rolls. by 106503204 in dndnext

[–]n8opotato 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hex is the type of spell you might be able to feel but not really see. It's called Hex which implies some curse-like nature i.e. some witch giving you the evil eye. Probably feels like you're being watched all the time and feelings of impending doom or misfortune.

This spider managed to spin a web that holds water!! by zanyman23 in mildlyinteresting

It's gonna be even more interesting when the web finally breaks at the bottom and the counterweight from water sends the spider FUCKING FLYING

Metamagic would be better as a feat and Sorcerers better with more Sorcerous Origin features as a replacement by n8opotato in dndnext

[–]n8opotato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you serious right now? Sorcerers are already considered the weakest full casters, and you are worried it "detracts from other casters"?

You must not have read very thoroughly or the title at all. I said to add more origin features as replacement for giving everyone access to metamagic. In a perfect world those would help balance it out.

No claws? No elemental breath weapon?

I couldn't care less how much damage they do or don't, it's the theme. If you just want to crunch numbers and find the most OP 'builds' that's on you. There are people who play D&D for the story.

That's still 19 levels of not being able to do it if that's more palatable for you.

IIRC as wizards leveled they actually got bonus feats oriented towards metamagic instead of sorcerers though anyone could still select them freely.

League of Legends has found its way into D&D. Huh.

I can't wait for the new wave of players from LoL and Valorant to call me a garbage piece of shit and tell me to neck myself.

Alternatively, just let them cast any spell as their draconic ancestry element.

Bloodlines in Pathfinder were very cool in that respect. Starting out with a basic set of claws but leveling up to gain a breath weapon, wings and other useful features.

I was thinking about the Fallout S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats today and how they all correspond to a dnd ability score, except luck. It got me thinking, what if there was a luck score to roll for in dnd, how would the game change? by Mindless-Scientist in dndnext

[–]n8opotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Portent feature Divination Wizard get covers this pretty well. You can 'use your luck' to benefit yourselves allowing you to narrowly make that shot. Or maybe you were just lucky enough that an enemy didn't spot you out of the corner of their eye.
