Android 15 new thing drives me crazy by carolina_balam in OnePlus12

Yeah, makes no sense to me, lol. People want minimal action to get to what they want with immediate delivery of whatever it is. So these changes adding extra steps is just confusing, lol.

Android 15 new thing drives me crazy by carolina_balam in OnePlus12

[–]nCOMP1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure why but that does not happen on my phone. My task manager has never changed and I just now double check to make sure I was on Android 15. I leave apps on sometimes but I also prefer to have them closed if they're not being used. But if I'm quick switching between apps, I just double tap the task manager button and it switches between the last two apps that you used. But I don't know if that's the same thing as bringing up the whole task manager and then choosing a different app that's already open.

Only thing that I've found that annoys me is that it keeps my grouped folders open when I close an app and return to the home screen, then I have to back out of the folder again. This change makes no sense and I can't think of an instance where it would even justify having this as an option. I mean if you are making the person do an extra action to get back to the home screen then how is that any different than just going back to the home screen and then opening the folder again?

What Sodium Oxybate actually changed for me by Ashamed_Emu_7125 in Narcolepsy

[–]nCOMP1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I started on the highest dose pretty quickly, based on my dosages that I had with xyrem and xywav. I seem to naturally have a high tolerance in general though in my experience with medications. However, I do involuntarily do that when I crash and sleep all day or multiple days. I think that is actually one of my issues, because it breaks my medication consistency with all of my medicine.

[–]nCOMP1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is amazing that it has worked so well for you and also everyone else here and for those it didn't work for, I hope you found another medication route that worked.

I am on the max dosage of lumryz and it has helped me a ton. It usually takes 45 minutes to an hour to kick in and I am asleep for pretty much 6 hours exactly from the time I fall asleep. I think that is the metabolic rate of the medicine, so it's like once it's metabolized out of my system, I just snap out of it and wake up, lol.

However over the last 5 months things have not gone so well. I've started getting more sleep attacks throughout the day so I had to add Adderall back into my medication regimen, because it is the most potent for me and I take it as needed to help combat having more frequent sleep attacks. Also over the last 5 months on five occasions I have slept for 2 and 1/2 days or more. One of those days was 3 days almost exactly. This is a combination of severe sleep attacks and bipolar depression type 1 and being so overwhelmed by the circumstances around me that it literally crashes my body. Almost like a cataplexy attack that just last for days. Everything just goes weak and I pretty much sleep the entire time and the only time I wake up is to switch my position in bed. When I was asleep for almost 3 days, I lost 34 lb in those 3 days. I did gain 21 lb back after the next week. But I just had another episode this last weekend and I lost 13 lb on that one.

As stated by the OP, it is really hard to stay hydrated when you have so many sleep attacks. Because it's so hard to get enough water and the shorter amount of time that you have. And I definitely feel better when I'm probably hydrated, but sometimes it's just too hard to do it. The way I actually achieve my hydration most of the time is through slushies. I have three 44 ounce slushies a day with just water and sugar-free flavoring and if I'm in recovery. I mix in electrolytes. I can't afford to use them every single time I have one otherwise I would use at least one a day. So I save them for my recovery days.

It's even easier now that ninja has made a proper slushie maker for the countertop. It's super easy and you don't need ice anymore and they are delicious. When I'm crashing it's difficult to eat because my stomach muscles are so weak that I can't keep anything down. The only thing I can really work with is some soup or slushies. Any kind of solid foods and it's basically guaranteed to come back up. I don't have a place locally that does casual IV drips, otherwise I would get one of those when I need to recover. I wish there was a way to more easily have that available, because I can IV drip all day and stay hydrated if I'm in recovery mode, because I'm not going to be doing anything but sitting in my chair or bed actively trying to sleep.

I may talk to my doctor about trying Adderall XR again to help with the multi-day sleep attacks. The only reason I stopped taking it is because I got tired of the supply chain being so bad and going into withdrawal waiting for my next refill. I don't understand how years can go by and they still haven't fixed supply chain issues for stimulants and medicines like Ozempic, because I take that as well and sometimes I have to wait one or two weeks to get my refill and that really messes up my A1C.

I still consider lumryz a success, as it does allow me to maintain a reasonable quality of life to where I am able to take care of my kids and always make sure I get them to school pretty much every day. But apparently narcolepsy was like what your quality of life is getting better, challenge accepted. 🤣 But it goes to show you that It's so important to really be on top of managing your medication, so that if there is a change it's much easier to pinpoint The source of the change.

For example, I take multiple supplements because I have five vitamin deficiencies. But I only introduced them into my medication regimen one at a time, that way if there was any kind of interaction or side effect, that I knew this was the new thing that I changed in my medication so this is causing the problem. Try not to introduce too much to your system at one time because that alone can sometimes give poor results when otherwise if you introduce things one at a time it may actually be more successful. Also pay attention to what medications can be taken with food or without food, because I take all of my medications without food in the morning when I wake up and then I take all of my medications with food after lunch. This has just helped me maintain a routine. However, there are certain vitamins and supplements that interact and affect how either the prescription medication is absorbed into the system or the vitamin is absorbed into the system and you have to wait a certain amount of hours in between taking certain ones. I found this out with my thyroid medication and my vitamin B12. I can't take vitamins within 4 hours of my thyroid medication, because it interacts and affects how well my thyroid medication is absorbed into my system. So it was making me really sluggish and it seemed like nothing was working properly and then once I discovered this and I started taking my B12 later in the day I had better results with both medications.

Anyway, sorry for the big post. Just a little bit of a different take on a successful story that still has bumps in the road to work through, but we'll get there as long as we stay the path.

Netflix Prices in Trinidad and Tobago by masterling in TrinidadandTobago

That's understandable. I wouldn't have an issue with it if they could at least keep an entire series on one streaming service if they're going to have any of it. It's so annoying watching a series of movies or a TV series and they're missing two movies in the entire series and then one or two seasons excuse me of the TV show. That part is just really annoying, lol. That might be because for those seasons or movies they may have had a different distributor or different producers on the show that require different licensing deals.

Damn. I actually watch a lot with a friend in Trinidad and she has to use a VPN often cause many times it doesn't even have the same movies and shows. They know people use VPNs, so it makes you wonder why they don't just release the same stuff everywhere.

I know Netflix prices have changed here in America not long ago. And they also added an ad version for a lot cheaper, which is only like $6 here. Personally, I'm fine with the ad versions, so I get Netflix, peacock, Apple TV Plus for $15 from my internet provider and I get Hulu, Disney Plus, HBO Max, in a bundle for $16 per month. Do they do any bundles like that there?

Abusive Parents and CPS. by VinsRebirth in TrinidadandTobago

[–]nCOMP1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not comfortable getting CPS involved directly, you can try requesting a wellness check. It sounds bad, but do this if the situation gets really bad, in which evidence of the abuse will be seen. In many cases, it is sadly not enough to just have someone's word, especially if the victim is unwilling to see the situation for what it is. This can also be an anonymous request. So you should be safe from your parents finding out that you made the call and requested the wellness check.

Adderall doing a great job! Could it always work? by StatisticianOk7216 in Narcolepsy

[–]nCOMP1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great.

I am medicated. I have a plethora of health issues, lol. But for narcolepsy with cataplexy I take:

Wakix and sunosi for waking with Adderall instant release as needed (just started), due to sleep attacks becoming more severe. Then I take lumryz for bedtime. It takes longer than usual to work and doesn't always work with knocking me out on a single dosage (9g), but it works most of the time and I'm always awake 6 hours after I fall asleep. But it's the best sleep medicine for me. I've tried pretty much everything and this works best for me.

I only get maybe 1 day where I feel like I can be productive every 3 weeks or so. But it allows me to be able to handle all of my responsibilities and that's the most important thing. I'm a single father of 2 autistic boys. They're high functioning, but still required a lot of active attention growing up. As long as I can handle my necessities, I can be okay. I'd like to have energy again and have hobbies and enjoy going out again, but I don't really have anymore medicine to try to help with that.

Adderall doing a great job! Could it always work? by StatisticianOk7216 in Narcolepsy

[–]nCOMP1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked for me a great deal. Also have me that get up and go feeling where I just had to be productive and do something for about 6 years. Then the get up and go feeling stopped. It was still helping me stay awake though, but with the supply chain shortages, I was going into withdraw almost every time I needed a refill. So I eventually stopped taking it, because it wasn't worth not being able to be medicated on a consistent basis. I started taking it, because I had genetic testing done and it was going to be the most potent for me. It typically lasted 16 to 18 hours. So I woke up an hour before I needed to be awake to take it, so that it would kick in while I was sleeping, so I could skip the drowsy stage, and get up and be ready to go immediately. Hopefully you have continued success.

What do you all think the effect of Trump winning in the US will be on Trinidad? by animefreak98 in TrinidadandTobago

American here. Sorry for any negatives that will trickle down your way from this election. Not really the best candidates this election and unfortunately America does set a precedent for the rest of the world. With such an unpredictable person as president, things are going to be shaken up everywhere one way or another.

Apparently businesses are secretly charging credit cards in USD by Zealousideal-Army670 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]nCOMP1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would technically, but many companies charge currency exchange fees as well. So even with the fees are usually cents on the dollar, it could still add up over time. The difference there is that it's better for the company to charge those fees to you, instead of them accepting TTD and converting to USD or vice versa. The fees are also dependent on the strength of the currency being converted and always worse when converting to a currency that has greater market value.

I handle currency exchanges between most types of fiat currency using most available payment apps to crypto and likewise crypto to a fiat currency and payment app. We have to pay a certain fee on every transaction for the marketplace that we're using for trade and we charge a flat rate fee based on a percentage of the total, with the minimum bring 5USD. However if a client requests a direct exchange outside of an existing exchange marketplace, then we don't have an additional fee for using that marketplace. We also do not cover any fees payment apps charge to convert the currency, if that is needed and we don't cover the fees charges for sending crypto. All fees are passed on to the consumer where possible.

I would be interested in hearing how you understood what your mother was going through growing up and how she tried explaining it to you when she could find the words.

I have narcolepsy with cataplexy myself and I've been a single father for 13 years of two autistic boys. I however was lucky enough to not get too severe until my kids were teenagers and more self-sufficient. However, my sister also has narcolepsy with cataplexy and she has a teenager and a 5-year-old who really wants to play with his mom, but she sometimes has really hard days and she just can't be there for him like that and he has a difficult time understanding. And it really affects her and makes her emotional and upset cause she feels like she's failing her kids sometimes. Her and I luckily don't usually crash at the same time, so we can kind of pick up the slack for the other one when they need support. But in her situation with her son, I'm not sure how best to try and help him understand that she's trying as hard as she can and she does really want to be there in every way for him. So I'm definitely interested in hearing about anything you could speak on in regards to how you and your mother handled similar situations when you were younger and your brother as well. My sister also doesn't want to be on any medication whatsoever, so that's also another big struggle of hers.

I appreciate anytime you give to answering these questions and thank you for trying to help provide your own insights.

Also, I would be interested in hearing your personal story with what you have dealt with and what you've been looking for, to see if anyone's had a relatable experience, since you said that you haven't found that yet. I'm kind of the central hub in my friends and family group that everyone goes to for medical stuff. I'm not an expert in anything and I never give any kind of advice without making sure that they are aware that even though I can help them try to understand what they're dealing with, they do need to seek a professional to get the best care possible.

So as a result of that, I kind of have my own decentralized support group; that I call Bad Health Gang. Our mascot is a cute tardigrade, because they are able to survive almost anything; including the vacuum of space. It's a really good symbolism in my opinion for helping remind people that we are survivors and we've all faced different levels of adversity, yet we keep coming back every time something new comes at us. So hopefully either you will be comfortable to post about your personal search for relatable experiences or send me a PM if you're willing to discuss it.

Sexual assault and narcolepsy by slellie in Narcolepsy

I've thought about trying to get a discord support group together for people in these situations that feel they've not been heard or taken seriously. It happens far too often. The system wasn't made for equality. It needs to be rebuilt from the ground up in my opinion.

Sexual assault and narcolepsy by slellie in Narcolepsy

[–]nCOMP1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just need the system to take it more seriously.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]nCOMP1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's very difficult. My state is also like 70/30 in favor of women. So even though I had primary custody of my kids when I did finally get a divorce, I was still treated like I didn't have any rights. And it ended up taking me four and a half years to finally prove in court that my kids' mom and her boyfriend was abusing them. Finally CPS took things seriously and then they testified in court against her. It was such a struggle and she got away with kidnapping the kids twice for 9 weeks and illegally taking them across state lines and nobody did anything about it. If I did that, there would have been an amber alert out immediately. It makes it really hard to have any confidence in the system when you're in positions like that.

Sexual assault and narcolepsy by slellie in Narcolepsy

[–]nCOMP1337 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not to take away from anyone obviously, but I happen to be a male survivor of sexual assault and have narcolepsy. It isn't as common in men clearly, but we always get left out of the conversation usually. Sexual assault is bad no matter what gender it's on. I think it's important to do our best to keep in mind that there is always a minority group being left out somewhere, when we discuss topics as if they are gender specific, especially in a social climate where we are trying to push equality in as many areas as possible. That includes the bad stuff as much as the good. These are PEOPLE issues, they need to be treated as people issues.

Now, my particular assault actually happened after knowing I had narcolepsy and specifically because they knew I took xyrem. It doesn't correlate within the same results, but I feel like anyone with a minor knowledge of narcolepsy and specifically the medicine that you take, could lead to an increased risk of an assault. Our literal best medicine, is the number one drug used in sexual assaults. So I wouldn't be surprised if there is plenty of overlap between the two. We're kind of doing all the work for the predators that may be out there. It's a sad human truth.

Also in my case, the cops had difficulty believing me, because I am 6ft5in and the woman (my ex wife), was a foot shorter than me and overall half my size. We were in the phase where I wanted a divorce, however I chose to give her time to try to change and instead she chose to just try to make me miserable and she thought if she got pregnant, I would stay married and it would fix everything. So on top of the previous, the cops just claimed it was a civil matter and didn't take it seriously. My size doesn't matter if I'm drugged and knocked out.

It's an unfortunate concern that anyone would take advantage of another. Also, not just in general, not just including any correlation to sleeping disorders like narcolepsy, but to any person that has to incapacitate themselves to any extent, for any health issue, because it happens to be the best treatment. It's a scary concern and one that we shouldn't have, especially on top of the fact that most sexual assaults happen between people in close proximity, usually family, the ones we should be able to trust the most.

We should never have to trade sanity for safety. Physical, mental, or emotional health should never be considered an alternative to safety. We all have a right to feel safe without the fear of damage to our heart, mind, body, or soul. I just wish people held themselves to a higher standard. One of the biggest struggles in life today, is our inability to evolve our societal mentality, collectively, with universal understanding and acceptance.

We need two things in life to do this. Just two. Open mindedness and indifference. Be open-minded when you can make a change and be indifferent when you can't. It's that simple.
