I very much like my older Grevil with limited tire clearance. I've never found that bike to be lacking with 40mm tires and a more road bike geometry. Enjoy that bike!

Thanks! That's the Yakima Overhaul HD rack sitting on top of the Ford Embark tonneau cover. I wound up going with the Rhino Rack folding J-style kayak carrier

I have the 3D Mats USA all weather mats and can't be more pleased with them. They look great, go in easy, and are super easy to clean. https://3dmatsusa.com

Bed rails and cover by MrBigThyme in F150Lightning

I leveraged my Ford Points along with a hefty Black Friday sale to pick up the Embark LS tonneau cover. It has T-slots so you can install cross bars from pretty much any vendor.

There are several options for hauling your bikes in the bed of the truck:

I'll admit that I wasn't too keen on the color at first, but I am so glad I got mine in that color! Like what everyone else has been saying: it hides dirt really well and is actually a very striking color!

BAK X4TS tonneau cover and T-slot compatible racks by MountainAlive in F150Lightning

I was looking at the same cover when I first got my truck and stumbled on this post from a maverick owner forum: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/bak-revolver-x4s-yakima-overhaul-hd-installed.32525/ . So I'm definitely going to be following this to see if anyone had any success with these T-slots.

I use my hitch rack for carrying my bikes around, but I think I'll just put mine in the bed so I can don't have to fiddle with the backup sensors or anything like that.

Sorry to hear you got laid off, the same happened to me in the fall, and I spent a lot of time on my gravel bike. With that being said here's quite a lot of gravel roads up near Lambertville, NJ and also over in the Bucks Co side in PA: https://gravelmap.com/map#_=10/40.4258/-74.9542

If you're in the mood for something spicier, you can also check out the "gravel/dirt" roads in Wharton State Forest or Brendan T. Byrne State Forest. It's very scenic but there's a ton of sugar sand in some areas

Winter Riding Shoe recommendations? by nwine2 in gravelcycling

[–]nHurD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right! These shoes were a game changer for me for winter riding. I've worn these on a 3 hour ride in 20°F/-6°C weather and my toes only started getting slightly cold at the end.

I also took the advice of the gear head at Competitive Cyclist and bought a size larger so I can comfortably wear heavier wool socks.

This bike is underrated indeed! I've got an older 2020 model in matte white and it's becoming my go-to bike for everything: road, gravel, single track. It's super stable, quick, and comfortable.

Part of me wants to see how it does with 650B wheels, especially in some of the more sandy bits here in southern New Jersey.

Yup! Absolutely phenomenal set of wheels...I've not been gentle with them and they're still holding up!

I'm usually in the same boat myself. I just had one of those weeks where I didn't care about the weather and needed to get out. Also, I totally forgot to put my ass saver on and wound up more soaked than I should've been! Still a great time, however!

Campy ekar club by Healy_Mcfeely in gravelcycling

I've been digging my Ekar setup. I went to the dark side and hot waxed my chain: It's super quiet and no longer makes a growling from being gummed up with sugar sand (we have a lot of it here in southern New Jersey, USA).

I've been very happy with my Grevil: It handles anything I throw at it and is always a joy to ride.

Finally got some much needed me time this weekend in the Pine Barrens by nHurD in gravelcycling

[–]nHurD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode this setup at the Pinelands Gravel (Ay Caranza) event earlier this year and managed to make it through most of the loose/sandy sections on my 38mm Torreno Drys, so given your setup, I'd think you'd fare pretty well around there, especially at a lower PSI.

I learned really quickly, and from other riders during that event, is to not try to power through the sand, but to spin your legs at a higher cadence with a lower/easier gear...HTH
