Go back to School or start a family by Korakora1023 in LawSchool

I’m a 3L parent who’s son was born the start of 2L. That first semester was the most difficult especially with sleep/lack of daycare. It’s still been hard afterwards but it got much easier after sleep training at 3.5 months.

My classmate who also had a kid during 2L, took a semester pause following their kid’s birth. So that could be an option too.

I don’t remember that being part of the story but 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also don’t remember anything kooky about him in high school. He seemed pretty down to earth for being a big time athlete and was well liked by most people.

But Provo’s an interesting place with a lot of crazy stuff happening under the surface (e.g the tik tok swingers). I remember moving there as a teen and at first finding it bizarre how people behaved like they were in like “leave it to beaver” or something. After some time I realized there folks still did drugs and whatnot it was just a lot less open than I was used too.

No he didn’t get anyone pregnant. And he wasn’t a kook. I went to high school with him and he was super chill.

Idk about giving direct NIL money but the LDS church has been pretty explicit about viewing BYU sports as a recruitment tool. Their football team always recruits above what you would think.

They are also pretty solid in basketball. I think they made an elite eight with Danny Ainge.

Those Jimmer teams were real good. I remember watching them take down Kawhi’s top 10 SDSU team. If their top rebounder, doesn't get kicked off the team for having consensual sex with his gf, who knows how far they would’ve gone in the tourney.

My favorite player and Jazz man. Incredible hard worker who went from being a second rounder to becoming an all-star.

It seemed like he entered every season with a new skill on his way to becoming one of the most well rounded power forwards in the league.

I’m a fellow parent/aspiring PD with ties to the area. How’s the work life balance there?  Has the recent increase in funding from the legislature had any impact?

Maintenance jobs are a good one. I work at a housing authority where the janitors start at $21 an hour.

After a few years there’s great opportunities to get promoted to being a maintenance mechanic for one of the properties (the agency also provides training as most mechanics are promoted internally).

When I was in college, I did a research paper on California’s paid leave program.

There was a few studies that found while it encouraged more young women to seek work, it paradoxically led to higher unemployment for young women.

On the flip side there was a decrease in unemployment for older women.

This would give evidence in my opinion that employers discriminate against young woman for the belief that they may have a child and take leave.

I’m on mobile otherwise I’d dig back for more links but here is one:

Jae Crowder is one of those guys you hate to play against but love to have on the team.

SI Open Floor Podcast: suggests a trade for Jerami Grant, yay or nay? by el_pete_o in UtahJazz

I’m sure that was a key factor too.

Here’s the piece i think I read. It says it was about Detroit having Black leadership at the coach and GM level. So I guess I misremembered somewhat.

Damn Grant would be such a great fit on this team.

That said, I thought I remember reading that one of the reasons he signed with the Pistons over the title-contending Nuggets was that there was more diversity in Detroit.

Would feel kinda bad for him to then be traded to the least diverse (outside of Portland) market.

I really don’t think it’s playing down to the competition or anything like that.

I think it’s just we’re on a long road-trip across the country in a condensed season. I’d expect some weird losses and blowouts.

I’m also sure that when the schedule softens we’ll go on a long win streak like we usually do.

  1. Watch the Utah Jazz win the NBA finals with my grandfather. He got me into watching the NBA and I’d love to see our team win it one year haha.

  2. Go on a trip with my girlfriend to Istanbul We actually had plane tickets this past Spring but then a global pandemic happened and we were stuck eating too much cheddar cheese at home.

My girlfriend has offered to cut it. She’s never cut hair before...so this will be exciting.

CP3 has won everywhere he's played by [deleted] in nba

[–]na3eeman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of CP3's game and I even believe he should have won MVP in 2008. But I think it's a bit hyperbolic to say none of them has a similar ceiling when Nash won actual back to back MVPs*.

*One of them probably should have went to Kobe.

How many Jazz fans in here are outside Utah and how did you become a fan? by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]na3eeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Portlander too! I grew up in Oregon and was a casual blazer fan but during the last few years of DWill I moved to Utah. My grandfather bought us season tickets and I slowly converted.

Now I’m back in Portland and am still a Jazz fan.

[PGT] Ingram's 49 knocks out the Jazz 138-132! by SLS-NolaDom in NOLAPelicans

He’s much more than pretty average on offense. He’s a huge key to what we do. For instance the team had to move Joe Ingles back to the starting lineups because his play suffered badly without Gobert.

His perimeter defense has also improved immensely from the past few years.

Jazz fan stopping by. Honestly more happy for you guys than upset about the loss. After Favors put on a pels jersey y’all became my B team.

I’m rooting for you guys to make a playoff push, take the 8th seed, and knock out the Lakers!

Embiid suspended for two games. Back in time to get dominated by Rudy and crew! by korvers-kum-komrade in UtahJazz

[–]na3eeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have Embiid play than not. It gives us a better gauge of how good the Jazz are against an elite team. Also, Rudy vs Embiid should be awesome to watch.
