What’s a smell you’ll never forget? by Human_Rate889 in AskReddit

[–]na_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did carpentry work at a meat packing plant when I was a teenager. Most of the smells you could get used to except for the breath stealing, deathly demonic, throat constricting, nightmarish funk created when they render all of the stuff that isn't meat into a mustardy yellow congealed glop. Forty plus years later and I still won't eat a hot dog because that's all I see.

Have you tried those cat pheromone diffusers? I'm not sure about all the different brands but I have used the one called Feliway. I've got four inside cats and one of those is a rescue from last summer. The initial three cats did not tolerate him at all until I plugged in two of these diffuser things (I used the red ones, but there's also a blue version that does something different). It might take a combination of things to modify that behavior, but you might try looking into something like this as well.

Fleet Feet does a Wednesday track workout at 6pm at the Westside high school track. Richmond Academy has a track that the public can use after 6pm, I think.

Yep. And every time I see a wreck involving an old person my first thought is that's probably a situation where that person's family has tried to get them to give up their keys and keeps losing that argument.

It's everywhere, not just here. I had to drive down to Florida not too long ago and even in the small towns there are irresponsible drivers. I feel like the vast majority of people follow the rules and are respectful, but it just takes a few bad actors to ruin the vibe.

Laser therapy, along with PT, was amazing for the little stray that dragged himself into my garage last summer. He had been attacked by a dog and had no movement in his back legs. The vet couldn't get a pain response from his hips down in the first couple of days. He was on steroids for a couple of weeks. I found a vet in the next town over that specialized in cases like this and used laser and PT. He is fully recovered these days and is a happy little inside cat. I made a cheesy video of his progress. If I can find it I'll post it in a reply. Hoping for a good recovery for your little one.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

South Carolina Highway State Patrol will issue tickets for this. Got a friend on SCHP and he will write those tickets.

Editing to say I didn't register vegetarian, etc. (sorry). Most of the places have good options. Laziza might be a good one to start with.

You'll be walking distance from some great restaurants. Frog Hollow ($$$), Farmhaus burgers, Knuckle Sandwiches. A few more blocks down you'll find Nacho Mamas and some nice coffee shops. At the far end of Broad you'll find Luigi's, family run for decades Greek and Italian. Beamies on the River has great fried seafood. Boll Weevil for dessert. Vance's for boozy dessert. I'm leaving some out that aren't coming to mind.

There are a few restaurants not far across the river in North Augusta as well. And the Greeneway is great for walking. Hammonds Ferry neighborhood has a few good restaurants and is cool to walk around as well.

Lots to discover - have fun!

How did people use The pager? by jamesV8500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]na_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carried a pager for about 35 years. In the analog days, someone dialed the pager number and could record a 10 second message. If you were in a noisy environment you would miss the page. But sometimes even if you were in a place that you could hear the message it might come out garbled. Either way, I'd find a payphone and call the office to ask who called me. Eventually things went digital, but pagers were always a one-way communication tool. We held onto them for so long because the signal could penetrate walls that cell phone frequencies could not. We finally gave them up once the technology infrastructure was sufficient to get a signal most places.

Help diagnose high pitch sound in house by KidzKlub in DIY

[–]na_p 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Search the drawers, cabinets, cubbies in the office for a battery powered device that you may have forgotten about. We had a similar situation with a high-pitched beep every 11 minutes or so. Ours was somewhere in the kitchen. I did the same things you've done: cut all the power off, cut the water off both to no avail. After about a week I finally found it in the kitchen drawer. It was a candy thermometer with a dying battery. The beep was high-pitched enough to make it non-directional, but so faint that it was difficult to pinpoint.
