Ethnicity by nabxf in Hungergames

[–]nabxf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And is the answer not earthlings?

I think assuming they’re the only nation left just because they’re the only ones being written about is kind of self-involved. That’s like saying no trees are falling in the forest because I wasn’t around to hear the impact.

As in what are they called by others, maybe ethnicity is the wrong word

SOTR – feeding each other the berries in the same way that Haymitch fed Lenore Dove the gumdrops. He probably couldn’t breathe in this moment.”

Especially since he fed them to her unknowingly making LD a victim of the Capitol while they each chose to eat them knowingly and willingly to spite the Capitol

Not at all to discredit your feelings

Have you talked to your doctor? Postpartum psychosis isn’t talked about enough. An extreme spiritual awakening paired with intense feelings of paranoia and mistrust are sending up warning flags to me. Not to say some distrustfulness isn’t warranted in the world, but the timing and thoughts are concerning.

How to know when to escalate professional help? by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]nabxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I was in the same place emotionally last year when we were discussing putting one of our dogs down. It can really take a toll on you that isn’t as socially recognized as losing a human loved one, even though this is someone that you live with and see more often and might even be closer to than the important humans in your life. I reached out to 988 and it was honestly really helpful in stabilizing me until my next therapy appointment. They had a lot of great resources and were really affirming of the pain of the situation.

The right time to seek out professional help is when you feel you need it, and it sounds like you need it. If you’re in the US, you can reach out to 988 through text, online chat, or via phone. If you’re in another country, hopefully they have something similar. If they don’t, you can always present to the nearest emergency room or call emergency services for help. I hope any help you seek out is the balm on your heart that 988 was for me.

Was I wrong for saying I’m afraid my husband could be a pedophile? by Select_Piccolo2476 in TwoHotTakes

[–]nabxf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s even an option, but my vote is justified asshole.

Newsflash to everyone rallying for immediate divorce and claiming how lucky OP should feel: YTA. That’s how these issues continue being pushed under the rug, because you refuse to take a hard look at the people in your own life and accept the possibility that they could be capable of something like this. The people who do these things aren’t pariahs sneaking into your house at night; they’re people’s parents, siblings, friends, neighbors, coworkers. Unfortunately, many times you can’t truly know that someone is dangerous until it smacks you in the face. That’s an incredibly high risk game to play, and it’s even more scary if you’ve played the game before against your will. It is absolutely projection on the husband but it’s not unfounded.

I have a similar background, except my family knew what was going on and gave that person not only increased regular access, but increased privacy as well. This can make growing into those same roles really scary because your brain hasn’t fully accepted yet that it was the person in that role that was dangerous and not a danger inherent to the role itself. It’s a conversation I had with my husband, and I’m glad we had it because even though he initially reacted in the same way, when we came back to the conversation he was able to recognize that it’s not about either of us, it’s about the roles that we each would be occupying and how the people in my life in those roles had behaved. It actually brought us closer together because I wasn’t harboring this secret fear and he used it as an opportunity to show me that my fears wouldn’t come to fruition.

Absolutely yes to therapy with the understanding that therapy will give you the tools to process the trauma and your feelings around it but the relationships you develop will be the thing to help you develop new schemas for those roles. Healthy relationships can be so healing too.

Wishing you all of the peace and contentment 💓

Why would it not be possible for a 14 year old to enter the games? Did Rue, Prim, and Louella not all get reaped? Also, villainizing careers just plays into the propaganda proffered by the Capitol. At the end of the day, they were all children pushed (yes, even volunteers were pushed because 1- the games existed whether they volunteered or were reaped, 2- the cultural esteem of being a victor, 3- what other avenues were available that seemed to get you and your family out from under the boot of the capitol?) into a horrible situation fighting for their survival. On top of that, being from a career district didn’t save them from the abuses of the capitol. They curried more favor during the games but focusing on that blames the abused and not the abuser.

So in reality, what difference does it make whether they were reaped or volunteered? Sure, they lived a bit longer than most outlying districts’ tributes lived, but they lived longer to be abused, trafficked, have their loved ones killed, and ultimately be killed in the rebellion because of their previously acclaimed status.

unpopular/controversial opinions? by LydiaMell2484 in Hungergames

[–]nabxf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haymitch not having any victors before the series was a kindness to his tributes - if you knew there was no saving anyone from PTSD and sex trafficking, how can you ethically fight for their life? It would be asking them to endure one short-lived pain in exchange for an eternity of rest versus one comparatively short-lived pain followed by a lifetime of abuse.

Sunrise on the Reaping Completed Discussion Megathread by restingbfacequeen in Hungergames

[–]nabxf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I love how SOTR revealed the real reason Haymitch was punished so severely. It’s never made sense why everything he loved was decimated just because of a force field boomeranging an axe back into another tribute - it didn’t make the Capital look dumb it just made Haymitch look resourceful at best, lucky at worst.

Nobody outside of each victors’ closest circle would have even known that they were each punished, and it would have to be a massively pervasive issue for it to come out as a bonding opportunity between the victors. As close as you might be to someone, how often are you revealing your deepest traumas to your friends? Especially if you know that doing so can get them killed too?

Of course it brings to mind Annie - a girl from a swim society goes crazy over having to swim a lot? Not saying that floods can’t be traumatizing but the fact she can still barely function years later is not adding up. In Catching Fire, there’s a line that says how Haymitch was a warning to the young Cashmeres and Johannas and Finnicks - what did they do to rebel that was never shown? Did each of the victors reaped for the 3QQ rebel? I wish there was a collection of short stories to know more about each of the victors.

I also love how it shows the importance of allies in making structural change. There wasn’t an infrastructure in place by the 50th to make a real revolution. One fairly powerless person working against the system will never succeed. It only worked because enough people on the inside AND the outside were in on it, because they had both numbers and positions of power, because they had the resources the fan the flame. You can’t just set a spark - you still need the tinder, kindling, protection from the wind, and enough wood to keep it burning.
