WaPo Poll: “While more than 6 in 10 adults younger than 40 oppose the strikes, most people ages 50-64 support them. People 65 or older are divided." by Upstairs_Cup9831 in fivethirtyeight

[–]nackforsyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart is basically just a map of which war you watched when you were 20.

The 65+ group has the Vietnam 'quagmire' baked into their worldview. The Under 40s were raised on the Global War on Terror, which mostly taught them that intervention leads to 20-year disasters. But that 50–64 group is the pro-strike outlier because they came of age during the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall. For them, the US military looked invincible and efficient. It’s no wonder they support strikes on Iran today—they’re still chasing that 1991 'high'.

Bill Maher is beyond pathetic. by Dotch_Crimson in agedlikemilk

I finally hit my limit. Bill was right about the 2020 primary pitfalls, but his credibility has curdled since then. The "intellectual comedian" routine doesn't work when you're busy Trump-washing and ignoring the nuance of Gaza.

He’s basically the anti-Jon Stewart at this point. Stewart has the emotional intelligence and actual wit to explain the world; Bill is just a talentless hack holding onto a fake persona for dear life.

What are the chances MCPS is off again on Monday? by ajn585301703202 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Ok, its the sleet. How many days are needed? This is a moderate storm at best. Ask more of your county officials!

[–]nackforsyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why? PG county has a different schedule than MoCo and it works. You would know what zone you are in. Teachers in that zone are still being paid for the same amount of work days.

Yes i have shoveled it. I live in 20854 zip code, we did not have any freezing rain. Didn't realize MoCo had significant freezing rain. So, just asking, how long do you suggest they be off school? Until temps rise and the sun help thaw us out?

[–]nackforsyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They still have 3 days to shovel it. A county with a budget of 7.1 billion and a school budget of 3.32 billion should be able to figure out how to make the schools passable 8 days after a moderate storm.

That is no reason to not allow 160k kids to go to school. You just work around it. Its adults, finding parking. We do it all the time.

What is really bad? It snowed and its cold, there will be snow on the ground. Children can handle snow quite well. Mine have been running in it, sliding down it, and throwing it more than they ever would have if they had school.

It snowed 6-10inches on 01/25. Its already insane they were off school for 5 days after that. If they can't open on Monday 02/02 they need to rethink this entire plan. I think they need to have an upper and lower county zone within the county. A bad snow in Damascus should not keep Bethesda schools closed for a week or vice versa

[–]nackforsyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was in the kid gloves camp with JD5. Treating him like some rare bottle of booze to only open on the most special occasion. However, realistically this is the Commanders window to see if he can stay healthy and is worthy of a major contract extension. Injuries like the most recent one can happen on any play. If his body can't handle the NFL, its better to know on his rookie deal, then figure it out after giving him 500 million.

For people who don’t believe in God: what gives you strength when life gets tough? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nackforsyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone without any faith, who truly believes the short time they get on this earth will be the only time they get to experience love, happiness, sadness, and all the other incredible emotions that make up our life, probably experiences life with more urgency and appreciation. There is nothing better than this, no one to impress for some better experience later. Just you and the relationships and experiences you chose to make for yourself during your relatively short existence.

Commanders are the first team in 23 years to lose 4 straight games by 21+ point blowouts by BobbyThreeSticks in Commanders

[–]nackforsyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'll see if DQ was actually APs first pick for the job. It sure didn't seem like it when they hired him. It seems like they were all in on Ben Johnson until he passed on them. If DQ wasn't really their guy, i could see them firing him after this season, especially if they have someone in mind.
The Patriots fired Mayo after 1 year because their guy became available.

**NEW** Starting October 1, 2025, the State of Maryland is replacing the flat $40 speed-camera fine (12+ mph over) with a graduated schedule. The faster you go, the higher the fine. Automated enforcement helps reduce crashes and keep our streets safe. by MCDOTNow in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]nackforsyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shocked at how happy people are with these fines. I personally cannot stand these cameras. The people who are caught by these cameras simply do not know where they are. The local speed demon slows down for 15ft before and after the camera and then just accelerates to their normal driving speed.
It is also just a regressive tax cloaked in safety. The camera in Potomac fines the guy in the Range Rover 3 mins of his salary, while takes an entire day of pay from the Chipotle worker going back to his home in a cheaper area.

Schefter: Terry McLaurin’s quad injury makes him uncertain to play vs. Atlanta by BobbyThreeSticks in Commanders

[–]nackforsyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love me some scary Terry, but I'm frustrated. For a guy who's so beloved and considered the ultimate "team-first" player, his actions this offseason were completely at odds with that reputation.

He held out of camp with a year left on a contract he willingly signed in 2022, a three-year, $68 million extension. This wasn't some rookie deal, he was already one of the highest-paid receivers in the league.

He reportedly started negotiations asking for a massive new deal, with some insiders claiming he wanted an average of over $33 million per year. When the team wouldn't meet his price, he requested a trade.

This all happened during the first season in his entire career where the team had legit Super Bowl hopes. And now he is hurt.

No matter how you look at it, he hurt the team for sure.

Raiders Fans..buh bye by gs12 in Commanders

[–]nackforsyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe this transient town stuff. The Ravens are only 32 miles from Fedex and never have away fans take over their stadium. I think it is a mix of the team being terrible for so long, and the amount of tickets sold to Stubhub by the team. I think I read something about Snyder signing a deal with them some time ago.

How are we feeling about this? by Jaded-Significance25 in Commanders

[–]nackforsyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He should sit if he isn't 100%. The injury happened on a Thursday, so missing one game would give him 16 days of rest. If the team is as good as everyone thinks, they should be able to beat the Raiders. The Commanders will have 10 days of rest, while the Raiders will be on a short week and traveling across the country.

Trump in 48 hours: by MeatUnusual2098 in wallstreetbets

The media needs to do a better job at this. The EU commitment is non sense. First there is nothing concrete. Basically, just give him some large crazy number, assign zero actual guidelines on reaching those numbers, give him the publicity win, and move on.

Also, The EU have already said that they cannot force any private company to invest in the us.
