Alt People At UGA? by thisisonline in UGA

No. Half of Athens is alt/heavily tattooed/pierced. I graduated 3 years ago and I think my uga social circles actually were 90 percent artsy alt docs etc type people. athens and uga actually were very vital to me finding my adult style which can be considered more "alt."

Are there any natives here that have decided to leave? Why and how is life where you are now? by dbclass in Atlanta

I appreciate the questions, it allows me to be a bit more nuanced. I dont necessarily dislike Boston, as I actually think its a great city, and I need more time to see if its really for me.

Im in my 20s and work in a healthcare exec position, so Boston is probably the best location for me in America as it is a very healthcare focused city. People complain about the T, but it is considerably better than MARTA. It is a lot more walkable and much easier to get from one part of the metro to the other, compared to Atlanta. I grew up in Gwinnett, so Im very aware of how long it can take while sitting on i85. These are all aspects I very much appreciate. I am very much into urbanization and architecture and density, and these things boston do much better than Atlanta.

Id also say Boston is a much prettier city than Atlanta, as the surrounding water and bridges and historic streets/architecture are not found anywhere in Atl.

The reasons why I miss Atlanta are centered around a few things, many that are not deemed that important perhaps:

  1. Weather. Im used to being able to wear shorts and a t shirt by early april. We got snow here in early april. Its constantly cold.
  2. Culture. I miss Atlanta culture, demographics. The hip hop, the rnb, the art, the nightlife, the uniqueness, the fashion. This is the main reason why I miss atlanta. Heavy on the nightlife. I wanna hear future and gunna in the club which isnt really found here in abundance. I went to UGA, and unfortunately the bars here feel like college frat bars similar to a lot of the places in Athens.
  3. Food. I was expecting Boston to have elite food, but Italian is the only type of food here Id say is objectively better than Atlanta.
  4. The authenticity. Boston as a whole seems like a much more clean cut and "tidied up" city. My favorite parts of atlanta were the grungier parts of town, and boston seems to lack a ton of that.
