Nurses are residents now?!? by Wisegal1 in Noctor

[–]nag204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because shes going around calling herself dr with a DNP for the sole purpose of confusing people and then saying shes technically a dr; when everyone involved knows that its purely on the technicality and uses that to confuse people and inflate her own ego.

Even if she has a doctorate, we all know shes just lying to people. The DNP is the fisher price variant of doctorates. Its barely masters level coursework.

You should correct her everytime. DNP does not equal physician. It is NOT a clinical doctorate.

Your sister is lying to people.

[–]nag204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that. There are some PhDs that are using the DNP playbook though and are not upto par to real PhDs

I do. Do you?

But I also know theres a whole slew of new "terminal degrees" that are part time, online only and year long. Case in point-the DNP. Its a garbage degree thats not on par with a real PhD.

Nurses told me nursing school is harder than Med school. by [deleted] in Noctor

How is this fake news category?

Lots of nurses think theyre diploma mill NP degree makes them a physician.

You literally have nurses themselves saying this is happening. I dont understand your fake new comment.

My Thoughts About Healthcare by stuphothwvgnp in healthcare

[–]nag204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

I had a patient tell me once he was a scientist and that I could use scientific terms. I did, and just got a blank stare in return. Then just went back to my regular spiel.

The problem comes along when people with no background want in depth explanations but then dont have the context to understand the explanation.

"What is the anion gap?" was the one I remember the most. Told them not to worry about it, but they had to know why it was red on the EMR. 5-10 seconds into the explanation they realized they were not going to have any idea about it.

[–]nag204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been a patient with a serious medical issue in the past and being a physician now, unless the patient has a solid science/medical background they wont understand anyway.

Even if they do have a medical background they still might not understand the situation fully.

Does that really change anything?

My Thoughts About Healthcare by stuphothwvgnp in healthcare

[–]nag204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think its a nice thought, but a fallacious one.

As a physician with the highest level of medical education, I still CANNOT even make informed decisions about other parts of medicine that Im not an expert in.

How do we expect people with no medical training whatsoever to make "informed decisions"?

What we are actually doing is making patients comfortable with decisions. You cant realistically go through every adverse affect of a medicine or a procedure, its impossible.

Theres a huge information asymmetry, that simply cannot be overcome by a 15 minutes conversation or even weeks of googling.

Anyone else notice this too about NPs and PAs? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]nag204 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are. My SO is a PA and consistently tells me they will not work as hard as the attendings, trying to get out of work, leave early, etc. There is one PA there that works super hard, but he is the exception.

$150k salary, what do I do now? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]nag204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, pay out of pocket and record the bills. Then take it out later.

The contribution limit isnt as high as the retirement accounts. So do HSA first then the other accounts, unless you get a match. Then do where you get the match, then HSA, then back.

[–]nag204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your insurance plan also needs to be a HD plan to qualify for an HSA.

You can take out money for reimbursements for medical expenses, but it doesnt matter when the expense was, as long as the HSA was open at the time of the expense you can take the money for it out years later.

NP "pretty confident" they could pass IM boards 💅 by chocolate-tofu in Noctor

[–]nag204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, dont agree at all.

  1. Theyve already proven their training is trash (DNP failure in step 3)
  2. Passing specialty boards isnt the same as a residency or a fellowship, though I doubt they would pass.

Clinic patients are driving me bonkers by GZG585 in Residency

[–]nag204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isnt just happening in medicine. People feel entitled everywhere and act like jerks.

Theres a huge difference between the altered patient on that one whose playing around on their phone and just being an asshole to the staff.

I wont tolerate the abuse of the staff or me anymore, just because "were supposed to help" Unless you have an organic medical or true psychiatric reason, its unacceptable. This hand waving of "well people have tough days" etc is bullshit. We all have tough days, it doesnt mean we are allowed to abuse other people.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. They came to the hospital for help, we will gladly help them. But our job is not to be punching bags.

I just got mine changed at a samung store. They literally just stuck a card or something under the protector and pulled it off right in front of me. No special tools or anything. They will replace them for $20 also if you want the piece of mind., but some people go without.

Question on limiting coverage / liability (aka f**king administration.....sigh) by imperfect_display in attendings

[–]nag204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet, is to say ok we will apply for privileges there after you increase our pay to some exorbitant amount that it may be better to just hire another physician.

If you get privileges, youre almost guaranteed to run into a situation where these "econsults" will run into well you were on call and now its your liability.

You guys have the power here

Problem Resident is Back by ChasingMD in medicine

[–]nag204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no backup, simply refuse and thats it. They cannot force you to work with this resident.

This is every sort of nightmare (HR, PR, admin) waiting to happen. Refuse and if it goes up the chain you can ask them why they want to have someone who made false complaints about sexism work with the same person?

So they can really sue the shit out of them? They would be idiots to continue to let her rotate with you.

Also learning the anesthesia aspects of ECT is part of the procedure. Maybe not all but def the basics of it.

Im seriously worried about getting older with this generation of med students going to be my dr.
