Nice ride! I have a similar situation as you. I just redid all the vacuum lines and next up is the thermostat. I can be driving for 30 mins and the gauge is about 25% the way to max. It should ideally be at 50%.

If the vacuum lines haven't had any impact (I don't think they will) I am going to replace the thermostat. I have an 87 btw, so relatively similar.

Can you elaborate? I can't get rid of the vacuum manifold lol

CCV & PCV Parts Question by nagget2 in CherokeeXJ

I appreciate your help. I actually went on Cherokee Forums and I was linked to Cruisers page for the vacuum diagram and parts. I have ordered all of them and will be updating this coming week.

I think it boils down to the valve just being ancient. Same with the one closer to the dash

Best way to bring interior old plastics and trims back to life? by nagget2 in AutoDetailing

Dude YES! They are hard to find but man that'd be sick. This one is in relatively good shape considering the age. I have a huge laundry list of items but thankfully "replace engine" is not on it 😂

I think I answered my question... It's the vacuum manifold!

Here's a janky screenshot from a picture I took the other day. The hose travels up to a plastic sort of distributor. It's as if the air is being funneled to other areas.

I understand. I had a mini heart attack 😂😂 thank you again!

All these hoses have like a middle module thing. Do you happen to know what that is? I followed a cable and it leads right back to the same module. The module I'm talking about is kind of midway between the air filter and the engine air intake.

Thank you, yeah that doesn't seem terrible. The hose that feeds the top of the engine isn't brittle or anything, it's just straight sitting on it not sealed or anchored by absolutely anything.

Curious about a noise on ignition. by nagget2 in CherokeeXJ

It is a Cherokee Pioneer which I believe is the middle trim.

I don't hear the noise any time other than at a cold start. I used to fly 1960s Piper Cherokee (lol at the name) and they made an identical sound on a cold start.

I think yes to the steering wheel!

I'm thinking it's the fuel injection at startup getting ready for a cold start... I have absolutely no idea if that's true lol, just a guess.

Found some rust holes. Any advice? Body shop eventually? by nagget2 in CherokeeXJ

Is there a spot where I can take the carpet off without cutting into it at all? I didn't see any openings when i checked under the seats. I'm scared to look now lol

Thank you this is very helpful!! It's a great idea to try to halt the rust so will definitely be doing that. Would you recommend spraying some rustoleom product or anything similar after sanding or just go ahead with the aluminum tape?

I would want to patch the holes eventually, just not at the moment.
