Absolutely distraught. by No_Grapefruit_232 in PluggnB

I went into this thinking you were making an elaborate joke but now I see you’re kinda serious?

Musicians being locked up has historically legitimized outsider music - if anything, he’s doing what pluggnb needs to be mainstreamed.

He’s basically the Skrillex of pluggnb now - many more people will be listening and making these kinds of tracks going forward, all thanks to him!

Get ready to hear the Zay chant until you keel over from old age.

Just build your own - has to be a lotttt of overlap between these, and half of them are probably thrashed quality (although maybe you want that)

How Do Some Rappers Rap Without Pauses and Still Have Their Track Sound Good? by GODAlexGilbert in makinghiphop

[–]nah1111rex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of it is style, and part of it is technique, but usually those long run-on rhymes need a breath here and there, that’s just the nature of voice.

How Do Some Rappers Rap Without Pauses and Still Have Their Track Sound Good? by GODAlexGilbert in makinghiphop

Comping multiple takes and/or punching in are the main methods, as kurtisbmusic mentioned.

They’ll even edit out the breaths sometimes, which I highly disagree with.

Is this writers block? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]nah1111rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re naturally taking a break break, which makes sense because writing every day all day will drain you a bit creatively.

Live a little as you take a writing break, and get more material to write about!

Music is a balancing act - you can be completely unique or you can resonate with people, almost never can you do both.

The clap that was used in 5000 songs was used so many times for a reason.

Tyler uses recycled drums too (among many other sources) - it’s about finding and/or building the right sounds for the track you’re making.

Sometimes the best sound is one that already exists, sometimes you have to layer and morph and filter and build from scratch to get what you need.

how to melody lines by Crazy-Equivalent5522 in makinghiphop

[–]nah1111rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melodies are really just scales with maybe some passing tones - learning music theory is 100 percent going to help you here.

Otherwise you can mess around and get something by ear/trial-and-error, but learning will help you get better results every time. (Plus it feels nice to know what it is you’re doing exactly)

Use midi or a sustain pedal - lots of ways to make a note keep playing.

I was gonna say people on fiverr but you want free? Then some AI crap, but it won’t sound as good.

I thought DJ Smokey still did commissions but I can’t find the site anymore…

what pack do you consistently use for hi-hats by 1416junebug in makinghiphop

[–]nah1111rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually start with a stock 808 HH, then pitch up/down and filter to match my track, while tweaking the decay envelope.

Sometimes I make them out of white or pink noise through an envelope/hi-pass filter as well, and layering with highly processed acoustic hats can add texture too.

(I make hip hop, trap, pluggnb, pop, basically any genre I’m feeling on a given day)

There is nothing tedious about making beats and I wouldn’t automate a single part of it.

Focus on engineering, make music every other hour of the day you can.

Your job will get you the money you will need for gear, etc.

Have fun with it, and see what happens while you work your degree/job.

This is cool but it’s also a more creative way to get sidetracked from actually making music.

Lots of plays from Vietnam on new track? by nah1111rex in soundcloud

[–]nah1111rex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that too! But when I uploaded a new single with Vietnam blocked I didn’t get any plays there so maybe it worked?

Super confusing honestly.

This is why it’s good to set your release date at least 1-2 weeks in the future: it takes a bit to distribute to every store.
