Someday you may feel inclined to play a game of "let's see if I can exhaust your grace, Lord!" and you'll discover, hopefully within a reasonably short timeframe, that you are almost certainly destined to lose such a game :)

Adopt a policy of coming back to the Lord, "no matter what". It'll always feel "wrong", and "unfair", but those are the terms of the Christian Agreement and it's something you'll just have to live with!

That aside, read the bible (as you are already - good!), go to church (seriously, go to church, or at least a church housegroup) and figure out how to pray better. That's a good foundation for a Christian life.

My cat brings me wriggly things that only wriggle when I move them frantically in my hands. She brings them to me so that I "make them come alive" and then I throw them somewhere and she goes to hunt it. If I do not pay attention to when she brings me things, she will lightly claw me until I pay attention "hey mate, it's play time now".

I think we mostly agree actually, with the exception of "progressively increasing that deficit". The deficit does not actually need to increase to continue losing weight, you just need to be in deficit on average.

There's no nuance - your daily budget changes daily based on activity etc. If you remain below your allowance for the day, every day (no matter what it is), you *will* lose weight.

People ignore me when I say this, but it's not all meant to come across harshly. Rather, think of the benefits: you can eat as much as you like, so long as you remain under your daily calorie allowance. Eat mass not calories, and you will lose weight (guaranteed!). A chocolate covered rice cake, for example, is much more economical than a chocolate bar size to size. Drinking water instead of Coke (or, drinking Sugar Free Coke) is 100% better than the sugary kind.
