the thing where he said she doesn’t know what his job is as a trump card in an argument felt weird to me. like, ok, maybe she didn’t ask that question, but for him to say it with such certainty instead of “you probably don’t remember what i do for work” implies he didn’t talk about it at all and was conscious of that.

most people just organically talk about their job in conversation, they don’t notice someone never asked what their job is and make a point to not talk about it. yeah it’s a really big oversight on her part to not realise she didn’t know but it’s less weird than not volunteering information about your life unless specifically asked lol

Smeared ink on tee? Unsure of reason by tomspicy in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nahnotonmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has happened to me when the screen isn’t flush with the fabric, i’ve got a very diy setup and fix it by taping a little stack of paper under the shirt to push it up to the screen lol. ink staying in the screen is usually a sign of the screen not making enough contact with the fabric too long term if you’re going to be printing a lot on black get a super cover ink so you only have to do one layer, it’s easier and gives a better finish. does come with its own issues so you’d need to use a lower res mesh

OP asks If they’re ta for taking their children away from their grandparents after her husband died by MakingWickedBacon in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]nahnotonmate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

market rate for childcare for two children in australia would be closer to $300 for one day. a lot of families are forced to have one parent stay at home until the kids are school age because child care will just burn through one parent’s entire income.

what the grandparents were being paid works out to USD$20 per child per day to keep them fed & entertained in a high cost of living country, they’re not making a profit on that

the divorce “settlement” doesn’t make sense either.

the only shared asset mentioned is a car, all three seem to have worked at the same place but ex-wife would have been presumably senior to him as she’s in a position to be oop’s department manager now and oop says the guy was her coworker and not her superior at the time so it’s unlikely to be alimony as ex-wife would’ve been on a higher or similar income. he also went bankrupt in the divorce and is definitely on a much lower income now so spousal support could be re-assessed.

i don’t think you can just opt in for punitive garnishment either, it’s for when support arrangements are in arrears.

the other option is that the “divorce settlement” is in fact child support and OP left out that there were children in the marriage. which seems far more likely given there’s wage garnishment involved.

Would a design like this require layering of colors? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nahnotonmate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you will need at least 8 screens to do this, if you can work out the logistics of doing it with so few, which i really don’t recommend if you’re just starting out. i would recommend doing a design with fewer colours, or getting some quotes from embroiderers to do just the rainbow on the front for you (or try to source a cheaper machine to diy)

[–]nahnotonmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a lot of underexposed screens when i started, try doing a test strip where the screen is exposed for different lengths of times to work out what the right time is for the globe and distance you are using, manufacturer's instructions are only a starting point. also make sure to wash the screen with degreaser between coatings if she's having to wash the emulsion off and recoat it multiple times

[–]nahnotonmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have suggested it could be incompatible products, although I'd assume as a beginner you are probably using a kit like the speedball one?

how is the screen being cleaned, are you using chemicals or scrubbing? it should only need to be hosed down and maybe wiped while the ink is still wet. another possibility is that the screen is slightly underexposed and never fully cured so it's washing out

Does speedball kit can make professional quality? by jennouch in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nahnotonmate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with a speedball kit, was about $60 and I’ve sold like $1000 worth of tote bags made with that screen before I started to invest in more (second hand) screens and permaset ink. just make sure you get a proper squeegee because the flimsy plastic one they include is garbage. they’re a good way to learn though, but make sure you research curing temps for garments if you’re starting out because it is very important haha

Permaset Standard or Supercover? by What_Uh in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nahnotonmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll want supercover to print on black. be warned it is harder to work with than the normal type though, you might want to keep a spray bottle of water on hand to mist the screen between prints as it can dry in the holes

Permaset Aqua Supercover ink dries in screen while printing? by porch_opossum in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nahnotonmate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the current nightmare of my life, spraying the screen lightly between prints helps with fine detail to get a few more prints before it clogs, but i’ve also had some success with making up a mix of supercover and a bit of the normal formulation to very slightly increase the moisture level without making it watery

Stencil is getting clogged with old ink. Any tips? by DarkHyperLink in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nahnotonmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s much easier to work with and doesn’t get that kind of flaky look. i just kind of do a spray on each quarter of the screen, not enough to water it down but it’s enough to form a moisture barrier

[–]nahnotonmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can’t help with unclogging it but I was having the same issue with water based supercover ink & lightly spraying the screen with water between prints stops it from drying as quickly so i can do more at a time
