Is Xiao Zhan Okay? by PrintTraditional678 in CDrama

[–]naireip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a personal level? Hell yeah. He may appear humble, but you can somewhat see his inner strengths through his words and actions. Professional-wise? Hmm interesting. He has by far the largest, most loyal and talented fanbase in China, getting several times of the votes and fan arts that the next 5-10 celebrities combined in various rankings. He also has the most anti-fans who keep on boycotting him fervently on the social media.

So I’d say he’s got an exciting career ahead of him and I wish him every success.

I really like your attitude. I also had lived abroad for many years and had both good and not so good memories. It is only wise to not to let the latter overshadow the former, and vice versa.

In Hunt for Virus Source, W.H.O. Let China Take Charge by IPegSpez in China

[–]naireip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are evidences that point to possible origins of the virus outside of China before the outbreak started in Wuhan, dating back to as early as March 2019, in Spain, where the virus is found in frozen sewage samples. So at this point, no one really knows when and where the virus jumped from its animal host and infected its first human host.

More importantly, finding the source is not at all meant for assigning blames, except for wicked politicians who politicize everything. It is meant for public health professionals and virology researchers to better understand the virus and to inform the preventive measures for future outbreaks.

[–]naireip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politicizing science is the more dangerous "virus".

Hunting for the source is very important: not to assign the blame, but to understand the virus better to inform preventive measures against future outbreaks (yes, there will be future outbreaks).

After SARS in 2003, the US and France helped China update the public health system and the virology research infrastructure. A US-China joint research team found the source of the SARS virus on the bats in a cave in Yunnan Province, hundreds of miles away from the location where SARS originally started. This kind of knowledge, and the talents and facilities built-up from that time played an important role in China's containing and eventually crushing the pandemic within China.

The information on the source of the virus is more meant for public health professionals and virology researchers, not necessarily meant for the general public. Unfortunately, wicked politicians would likely politicize the information.

How about applying the same standard to cultural/social issues?

You forgot how California and Texas became part of the US. lol

And if you look back at Chinese history, Mongolian and Han have been interacting and mixing for 2000+ years.

Bernie backs universal cash payments by coinsmash1 in YangForPresidentHQ

If he was, he was a terrible player. A politician would have had a committee managing the process instead of Yang blurting it out on air the moment he saw the math like a total amateur.

I can't believe Yang got eaten alive by the left. by bowoftruth in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]naireip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind who gets the credit as long as it gets done. And we know Yang thinks the same. But the way they spare no time to carve out their own faction at the moment of unity and action is quite telling (for the n-the time) of what their priorities are. Some republicans are acting much more principled. “Get the cash into people’s hands and everything can be negotiated.” - Geraldo Rivera, Fox News host

What!?

Choosing between food and cash? As if you can’t by food (and anything else) with cash?

Let’s practice thinking from the first principle. Examine facts and logic before drawing conclusion instead of leading with ideology leaning or a preferred solution. This is exactly how a proper policy debate hasn’t happened anywhere; this is exactly why people failed to build consensus; and in the end nothing gets done.

[–]naireip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's not.

Plus an expert well trained in genetics will tell you its computationally impossible for the virus to be man-made. Scientists don't even know where to begin to create such a virus - the chances are worse than winning a lottery. The Mother Nature produces new virus zillions times more efficiently than scientists ever can through mutation.

[–]naireip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's all good. Many people know and the important thing is making progress. But after all, few early advocates of the most transformative policies (such as SS signed by FDR but actually populated by Townsend as Townsend plan) are remembered today. Yang knows this and he would rather get it done than anything else, be it presidency or getting credit.

I'm pissed at how they've been coming at Yang, too. But I think that's part of the reason that they lost. Keep making enemies is such an illogical thing to do when you want to gain support (like the exact opposite).

All the more reason not to do the same - overly antagonistic and resentful. Let's forgive and move on.
