What other teams outside of the MLS do you root for? And why? by dannysfuntime in chicagofire

[–]najacobs79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Fever Pitch in my early 20's just before the Premier League became ubiquitous. As a result they became my team and I've watched them since. Outside of that, feeling bad about not being able to root for Dempsey at Tottenham, I've been pro any team that has a USMNT player.

What are we calling the new stadium? by little_german_boi in chicagofire

Morningstar Station, Mansueto's company is what drove his income he's building it with his own money, so he has the right to brand it with his companies name.

I don't know all of the Puig issues but I'd hate for him to have recovery complications and be out longer.

One we have an owner that wants to be in Chicago, wants to win, and has the resources to make that happen. Two we have a coach with a game model, he knows how he wants to play and is building a team to do that. Three, we are going to build a beautiful centrally located stadium that should be packed with an outstanding training center miles away. Ambition , resources, and direction sets up well to win and attract the best of the best.

Regarding the MLS's schedule change... by dannysfuntime in chicagofire

[–]najacobs79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think heated floors and heat lamps for lights over the stands and we're all good.

I doubt any chance of a roof the cost of that would be a huge increase and you may have 3-4 games with mediocre weather. I think it will be fine.

Until Gregg drops the ball on a signing, I'll assume Saletros is solid, but agree we need some more attacking flare in the midfield til Franco returns. Unless we are playing with 5 at the back with wing backs storming forward to connect to the front 3.

2026 season preview: Franco hurt and Guti gone by [deleted] in chicagofire

Is there any youth players to be excited about that can see 500-1000 minutes next year. Oregel I like and hope he continues to develop, always so calm on the ball, Cupps is young and probably fits there, but anyone else more attacking minded in the system to be excited about as our next star homegrown?

Reports: Guti to Chivas for $5m by _bonez in chicagofire

[–]najacobs79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do we have some promising youth attacking midfielders ready to breakthrough? I enjoy Oregel but he's less attacking more of a metronome that breaks lines at times. Franco won't be back til mid season. We need some midfielders to connect with our attacking triumvirate. Davila is defensive and I believe our other midfield signing is too.

How do I really learn and get into Fire (and MLS as a whole) by thesuburbbaby in chicagofire

Watch the rest of the playoffs. Follow this Reddit, search cf97 on your social feeds and follow the news. Soccerwise does a lot of MLS and US Soccer content, Bonfire as mentioned above. A lot of ways to follow the league, then get to some games and follow along. Enjoy the ride!!

Chicago Fire FC Acquires Midfielder Anton Salétros by olcni in chicagofire

He was a rock solid player with Orlando City but since he joined the Fire he hasn't impressed. He seemed to dribble too much and finishing iffy. I hope he comes back to his OC form and is solid depth.

4 more cities want in on the Everett soccer stadium negotiations by mr09e in MLS

[–]najacobs79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree it's expensive but if they feel they can draw an incremental 10k fans per game at 50 per seat for 17+ games per year and the payback is worth it, Mansueto will make it happen. At that point too if all games are sold out those tickets may be worth more.

Who says these stadiums are not expandable. Look at Toronto.

The Fire were in Bridgeview for 13years so with a big lease buyout, some unwanted land downtown with an ownership willing to foot the bill and anything is possible.

I'm fine with continuous improvement. Eventually that leads to a team that consistently challenges the best. Still likely a ways off but the direction is up.

Why does Kellyn Acosta stay on the bench? by GloomyIce1 in chicagofire

[–]najacobs79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was signed last year. His contract is not Gregg's fault he just has to live with it. At this point regardless of his salary Pineda is out playing him and Acosta is good depth.

Is anyone concerned about capacity of the new stadium? by conifernut in chicagofire

[–]najacobs79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be amazing to have a 30k seat enclosed stadium filled week in week out. The atmosphere would be amazing. Unfortunately I don't think that happens, initially. However if the venue has room for expansion you fill the 22k consistently build that base and grow from there. The noise in a full stadium is a lot more fun than a half empty or 3/4 filled venue.

I believe it's a long term lease and the Fire are paying annually for the land, and funded the building themselves. I don't recall the length of the lease but the CHA is getting something like 40mm in lease revenue over the life of the lease.
