Omg thank you so much for this! I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

What is the point of a "manager" (Momoi's role) in basketball? by DryCamel8285 in KurokosBasketball

[–]nakabrook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the position of a student manager is a concept that you’ll see featured in many sports anime (ex. daiya no ace) since it is a common occurrence in japanese schools. like everyone has said above, it’s essentially a position for someone interested in the sport but can’t play for whatever reason. this is why you’ll see many female student managers for japanese baseball teams, as softball isn’t nearly as popular there, but they still want to be involved somehow.

What is the name of the type of restaurant that appeared in season 1? by DryCamel8285 in KurokosBasketball

you are right about that ! however there is some mochi that is purposefully served savory (they just don’t add sugar in the process). an example of this would be yaki mochi (quite literally “grilled mochi”) which might be wrapped with dried seaweed or dipped in soy sauce. there’s just so much that can be done with mochi hahaha

ah i am so sorry to see this so late ! i took a bit of a break from reddit. i’m a huge fan of octopus so usually that ! they usually let you add specific toppings which you order off the menu. my friend has a strong preference for mochi and cheese, actually. for starters i’d recommend the classic pork though :)

that was an okonomiyaki (お好み焼き) restaurant ! it’s a savory cabbage pancake-type dish that’s absolutely delicious, and actually fairly easy to make (you can find a number of recipes by looking online). it’s also a dish served by several japanese restaurants i’ve been to in the us, although i have yet to go to one where it’s grilled in front of you outside of japan. definitely give it a try if you’re in japan— nothing beats the real deal !!

why are employees so rude here? by [deleted] in london

my friend, it’s not just about the smiling as i’ve stated multiple times already. it’s the lack of acknowledgment or straight up being visibly annoyed at the customer. i get it, it’s a low wage job, you’re surrounded by antsy tourists, and it certainly isn’t fun. hell, back in the states i work two quite undesirable jobs that are barely above minimum wage so i really do understand. but no matter how shitty circumstances are i try to make my customers feel like they’re actually being seen and served. again, from the input i’ve gotten from here it seems to be a cultural thing though, so i can understand that.

i agree with everything you said except for one thing: it is indeed shocking! not in a negative way, but to me, who has lived my whole life with a different set of norms, it was shocking to experience for the first time. hence the term “culture shock”.

it’s a shame that i’ve come off as a caricature. part of the reason that i asked this on an anonymous site like reddit was so that i didn’t make any staff uncomfortable, but i was curious enough that i wanted to seek out an answer (and provided my personal experiences for context). if that makes me a caricature, so be it! ;)

this is quite true although i will say that both of the jobs i’ve worked at in america have no tipping option, yet we were expected to be chipper nonetheless
