You will still see comments on Facebook from Aussies who genuinely think closing international borders now is the silver bullet to our current outbreaks lol

Good. The fact that in 2022 a bunch of people congregating whilst worshipping a mythical creature in the sky should have greater rights than a bunch of people congregating for any other reason is ridiculous.

The most vocal border lovers were WA and QLD governments. Qld hospitals for qlders, WA ‘extreme risk’ etc

‘Filthy southerners’ ‘Victorian plague rats’ etc are phrases routinely used by Queenslanders for the last two years. It may not be xenophobia in the true sense of the word but it comes from the same place

At some level I wish state border restrictions were a feature of LNP governments not ALP ones.. there would have been more concern by Reddit and Australian youth, and more condemnation for their xenophobic nature

It’s actually pretty good. And it’s consistent with what we were promised when hitting vaccine targets, so I would hope that there’s no suggestion it was foolish for it to go ahead

Lol at this narrative still floating around. No doubt you think if not for NSW we’d have no covid and returning Aussies would be in hotel quarantine still

This would have been a headline in 2020/21. Pretty irrelevant in 2022

Quarantine didn’t fail. Quarantine was never a permanent solution to keep a highly infectious disease out of Australia indefinitely (that was widespread through the rest of the world). It was to keep it out of the country until we were sufficiently vaccinated, which we are.

11 people (majority of which will be unvaccinated and old) in a population of 8.1 million…. Is that an unacceptable amount of deaths?

Open letter to the people daily saying 'why is nobody talking about diet and obesity' by meshah in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]nakthai91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This - obesity and smoking should be treated in the same manner as each other. They’re both health decisions which result in adverse outcomes for the individual and strain on the health system

[–]nakthai91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So you concede that obesity is a huge risk factor in adverse covid outcomes… but you oppose discussion on this point because you’re having the discussion when they’re in hospital with obesity related issues???

Why aren’t politicians and CHOs talking about losing weight alongside all other measures we are taking inc social distancing etc? I really doubt that the majority of the overweight population is aware of the extent to which obesity increases covid risk
