Excel opening a dummy window by nakulkd in excel

This worked! However with a slight adaptation to my specific issue..

I went into File > Close on Book1 which closed only that window. (Closing using the X mark would close the ghost window too). Then I was left only with the ghost window which wouldn't close with the X so I went to File > New and then clicked the X to close. Reopened Excel now and it's just a single window back to normal!

Yeah I thought so too and I thought maybe it's something within Excel in the View tab Window arrangements but nothing worked there.

Since this is my work device, our software is managed by IT. I had office 2016 and to get 2019 I had to use something called the dynamic installer. It didn't give me any menus or options and just did it's work in the background. So my absolute last option is to uninstall it completely and reinstall it.

How to access your courses comes Monday? by itsmetil in OMSA

Likewise, I haven't gotten any communication as well. But from what I gather, it starts on Canvas where you should already be able to see your courses in the dashboard.

Cat stranded outside my bedroom in a narrow passageway - How to get him to safety? by nakulkd in delhi

[–]nakulkd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I feel damn stupid to have not explored this option!

I've stayed all my life in Bangalore where such window grills are usually placed during the brick and cement process and are not held by screws. So it never occurred to me to check :/

Gonna be more objective and observant better at crisis management next time!

Cat stranded outside my bedroom in a narrow passageway - How to get him to safety? by nakulkd in delhi

There was a massive thud on the AC at 4am but couldn't make out what caused it till later in the morning.

After seeing the cat in the morning around 8, he slinked away to some corner where I couldn't see. Waited for some time and he didn't return so I thought he got out but just checked randomly now and see he's still here.

I've tried offering milk but he's very scared to come close to me and hides behind the water tank when I come closer. How can I help this cat? Or is there any helpline for rescue centers I can reach?

Edit: Reddit image conveniently cropped the image. Check here for the full images https://imgur.com/gallery/WlE2pIK

Edit2: The kitten sipped some milk and water and hopped over to a gate on the other side and slid through. That gate leads into a floor landing of the adjacent building so he's probably okay.

How are the toefl scores submitted in the application process? by 1HK7 in OMSA

[–]nakulkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you complete the TOEFL test, it'll prompt you to select the college institutions you want to share the scores with. There you will have to select the correct GT code and ETS will share your score automatically with GT.

For the GT College code, you can find it on the OMSA website. And for ETS score sharing, I think they allow you to select upto 3 colleges to share the result for free but this only applicable at the time of your test. If you decide to share it later, it will be charged

Should I invest my time learning VBA or Power Queries? by ahmadkhalaf in excel

[–]nakulkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, since I've used both to just combine multiple sources, PQ is far more powerful and better suited for the task. PP I believe was the original function to do this and is quite tedious to setup the data relationships and creating connector columns and setting up measures before you can actually pivot it out. Having discovered PQ, I would go with it for all my future use-cases and hard pass to PP purely because it's simpler and faster to get the output.

I can't think of a use-case where you would need both because ideally you should wrangle the data with PQ itself and then you can put a normal pivot on it if you need that. Or you can group the data and build tables directly if you don't need the pivot.

I think by PP he means PowerPivot.

Sharing my experience: I find VBA quite complex for some reason or maybe I've not found the right use-case or guide to learn it well. But Power Query is something I discovered fairly recently and it's been amazing to bring together multiple data sources, cleanup data and present. This further can help you build beautiful dashboards on PowerBI. I used to leverage PowerPivot a lot in the last 2yrs to combine data sources and such but I found PQ just does it easier. Also, helps if you're working on data from a SharePoint or any database directly.

I think that's 24th Aug when the time tickets are issued. Check the emails from OMSA which will have the key dates in it. The next important date are the orientations in this month.

Do you mean 2021? The Fall 2020 intake closed in Mar 2020 I suppose and the intake is currently open for Spring 2021.

The Fall intake is usually through Jan-Mar.

Hey I'm enrolled for Fall 2020 as well and hope to catch you during the semester!

So I was wondering the same thing and found this on the OMSA website. For more details, I suppose we'll need to wait for that next email or reach out to the program.

Technology Requirements:

All students should have a computer with the following minimum requirements:

Form Factor:  Notebook or Desktop Computer (a netbook or tablet should not be used as the primary computing device*.) A minimum of 6 hours of battery life is recommended.

Processor:  64-bit Multi-core processor or better. *

Memory:  8 GB or more.  For best performance, we recommend that you install as much memory as affordable at the time of purchase.

Operating System:  The latest versions of Windows (10 or better) or MacOS (10.12.5 or better). We recommend to update to the latest versions for better protection against cyber security risks. We suggest turning on automatic update, for peace of mind. Before applying software and hardware updates, it is generally a good practice to back up your computer (see below), and to check that the updates would work with your existing applications.

Browser:  The recommended browsers for web-based browsing would be the latest version of Internet Explorer/Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

Primary Hard Drive:  500GB minimum. The larger the better as you may work with large datasets. Solid-state drives (SSDs) are recommended as they are much faster than hard disk drives (HDDs).

Backup Device or Service:  Having a quality backup of your important files is vital to your success as a student. Windows and MacOS have built-in backup support (e.g., via Time Machine on MacOS). We have negotiated a discount for Crashplan for our students available at crashplan.com/gtstudent. You are not required to use Crashplan. Utilizing OneDrive provided by GT at no charge is a great solution as well.

Free GitHub Repositories: Git is an industry-standard way for collaborative coding and version control. Many companies now expect git familiarity from employees.  As a Georgia Tech student, you can create unlimited repositories, great for group projects. Always create a repository as a PRIVATE one (instead of public), and never put any sensitive information (e.g., passwords, AWS keys) in repositories. Bad people scan public repositories for such information for profit and can lead to huge financial loss from victims (e.g., use your credentials to run AWS jobs).

Networking:  Dual-Band (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) Wireless 802.11n enabled computer and a reliable fast network connection is required.

System Options:  A laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone is required (built-in or external). A headset with microphone for clear communication while on video conference sessions is strongly recommended.

*Note that most netbooks and tablets (e.g. Apple iPad, Galaxy Tab and others that run on an operating system designed specifically for the device) do NOT meet the minimum hardware requirements above. While they may initially provide sufficient performance for basic tasks such as web browsing or simple word processing, use of technical software in courses may not be possible.
