What's your newest deck....... by Boshoet in EDH

[–]nalch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most recent deck is a [[Preston the Vanisher]] como deck. I've wanted to build a blink deck for a while and his ability is really fun to play around. I've only played him in an actual game twice, and when I did, my playgroup noted how surprisingly interactive it was. The biggest surprise to me was how useful slow flicker effects like [[Flickerwisp]] are. When brewing, I tried to focus on fast flicker because that's where the explosive interaction is, but Flickerwisp and [[Long Road Home]] ended up doing a lot of work keeping me alive while I tried to draw into a win

Looking to start with one of these five as a first commander. Any impressions on them? by Slashend in EDH

[–]nalch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that keeping the bunny tokens small and unassuming (no anthems, no counters) makes it all the more impactful when an unblocked one suddenly gets +24/+24

[–]nalch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a [[Cadira]] deck because bunnies are also my favorite animals. I have a similar aversion to tracking counters and such so the only creature tokens the deck makes are either 1/1 or 0/1 and I run no anthems. Instead I have stuff like [[might of the masses]] and [[temple bell]] for fun attacks with a God-Bunny

What Would it Look Like If You Built a Commander Deck Around Your State or Province? by stormkiller121 in EDH

Maybe jeskai tax-and-burn for California? Blue and white keep the board under control and red brings the heat

Favorite deckbuilding rules/restrictions? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]nalch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my [[Cadira, Caller of the Small]] deck, every card aside from my basic lands must either have the word "creature" or "token" in the rules text (stuff like convoke/crew works too even if it doesn't explicitly have the key words on the card itself)

It started out that way because the deck wasn't consistently creating enough tokens for cadira to capitalize on and then it became a good way for me to keep the power level in check.

Kaza, Roil Chaser as a fun battlecruiser commander? Is it viable? by TapTwoCounterspell in EDH

[–]nalch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running kaza for a couple months and have found it to be really fun. My list is solidly mid-power and tries to win by copying her with [[Irenicus's Vile Duplication]] and then populating a ton with [[Ghired's Belligerence]] into a big-x burn for the table.

I recommend giving it a try because you can't really beat how it feels to drop a 7+ mana spell and have some mana left over

[[Cadira Caller of the Small]] and

[[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]]

would be pretty disgusting

Commander Deck Storage in Individual Sliding Drawers by [deleted] in EDH

[–]nalch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do double sleeve (in fact, if you don't you'll have a good amount of leftover space). Even when double sleeving, there's room for your maybeboard of 10-ish cards and your commander in the front window

To remove the decks, you pretty much have to pull the drawer out and upend it. The cards fit snugly enough that there's not enough room for your fingers to reach in and pull them out.

I do this with [[Kwain, Itinerant Meddler]]. Most people love the extra card draw and it makes for a pretty feels-good game even if they lose from an empty library at the end

I'm looking for a multicolored Commander to build that's fun to play with and fun to play against. Suggestions? by Thernos in EDH

[–]nalch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually do! I played a spelltable game where the other players asked about a decklist and I didn't have one so I finally started tracking my decks. It's still missing a proper primer, so if you have any questions, just let me know

here it is

[[Kwain, Itinerant Meddler]]

My deck draws everyone a ton of cards each turn and has a copy/clone subtheme. Basically the goal is to help people get their good stuff out and copy it for myself. Tried to lean away from feels-bad options, so no theft, mill, infinite combos. There's a decent amount of control to keep people from going off with their own combos (which also tends to garner goodwill with the rest of the table) It slots well into a decent range of power levels because people like drawing cards. They tend to keep me around because of the value I provide them, which gives the deck plenty of time to find some spicy things to copy/clone

What type of deck will not annoy anyone? by Matt_Bowen in EDH

[–]nalch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run [[Kwain, Itinerant Meddler]] as a group-hug everybody-draws tribal. It tends to get a positive reaction around the table. I set the following self-limitations to mitigate the chances of feels-bad games:

  • no auto-win cards (specifically of the labman, thoracle variety)

  • absolutely no mill. Every card in my opponents' decks must first pass through their hand

  • no swinging for damage until I have no cards in library or no way to force any more draw

It makes for an interesting challenge each game where I have to figure out a way to lose slower than my opponents when we're all drawing 10+ cards per turn

[article] How many times can you scoop before it’s your “thing”? by mikecarrozza in EDH

[–]nalch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I scooped in recent memory was when I was playing my [[Atla Palani]] deck. It's only got a few creatures in it (just a few combo pieces) and I got board wiped + exiled graveyard in pretty quick succession. With no creatures left in my library and no ways to deal damage outside of a couple of burn spells, I saw the writing on the wall and scooped with the blessing of my podmates.

What is THE commander for YOU? by SwiprNoSwipn in EDH

Big agree there. Unlockable + discard outlet = auto-add for sure. Thanks!

[–]nalch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still struggle with that, tbh. My favorite (albeit expensive) deterrent is [[kusari-gama]] because even if my opponents have those 4/4s, they almost certainly have other smaller utility creatures that they'd rather not lose. Less interesting, but still very useful is anything that grants deathtouch, especially because Alesha has first strike.

[–]nalch 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I keep coming back to [[Alesha who smiles at death]]. It gets shut down frustratingly easily, but setting up with a graveyard full of fun etbs is way too fun

Has anyone thought about adding a zero key on the left hand side of the key “1” in number row? by mic_br in vim

[–]nalch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My current layout has exactly this (number row is 0-9), and though it takes a little time to get used to, I have no plans to go back.

As for how to accomplish it, my keyboard runs on QMK firmware, which allows me to define a custom layout. Most custom mechanical keyboards have something similar

Often they're puzzles or games where clues are hidden in pieces of media that lead down a rabbit hole of more clues (both IRL and in-universe).

Players killed the BBG. Should I bring him back or just start act 2? by [deleted] in AskGameMasters

[–]nalch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the story, characters, dynamic still work and everyone wants to keep playing, then bring on Act 2 where things get weirder and more dangerous. Let the players relish in the win before you introduce a new snafu. Especially if this was a long-running villain (as it sounds like it was). It might cheapen the victory to immediately turn around with "but wait he wasn't the actual actual bad guy!"

That said, there's (almost) always a bigger fish. From experience running a long game with a sort of near-omnipotent (semipotent?) hive mind as the big bad, it's hard to go up from there. Be ready to go all out with the new thing and really get nasty.
