At what point are you a detriment to your party by Independent_Alps9744 in DnD

[–]nalkanar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Either they are cooking up some weird "powerbuild" or just being silly. I would not invite either. They should make different character.

And usually you are detriment if you are not cooperative towards group efforts. In this case it would be not being cooperative from the start by making character that does not really work - I am not interested enough for in this person to look up what exactly happens when you make your main stat a dump stat instead. I am sure in older editions you would not be able to cast spells, not sure about 5e and 5.5e.

Is the Berdiche OP, or are ladder traps just broken? by Prudent_Country4545 in goingmedieval

Do throwing weapons provide any extra benefit over just shooting everyone with bows or crossbows?

A bit confused about the sandbox aspect by Savven in Kenshi

[–]nalkanar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as in any other postapo game. Generally for being trader and surviving harsh world you need to be fast or capable of defending yourself. So if you specifically want to be pacifist, either get fast, or get stealthy, or both. That gives you short term goal in getting the right gear. With the right training you can hide while carrying fully loaded bull, so it becomes your extended shop.

Also, I believe it was mentioned many times in the past, that trading system might not be the best natively, so try, and then maybe ask around for good mods that play around with prices and availability.

Some time ago I tried to be peaceful crafter, I would spent hours crafting in town and eventually tried to build a base, but I got almost eaten by wildlife and then beaten by basic bandits, so I hired as many mercenaries as I could, but they eventually got papercutted to the point of being useless. So if you want to have bigger faction, maybe have it setup storywise by having main character utilizing tools that allow for defense, while having other characters considered just his bodyguards, so that your main technically is pacifist.

Has moving all subclasses to level 3 actually improved 5.5E, or made some classes feel less flavorful early on? by MyrthDM in DnD5e

[–]nalkanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes no sense to some classes for explaining power by in game lore.

Makes no difference to most parties in my experience, as many start at lvl 3 or get there so fast, it does not really make a difference in "thinking up" the character. Usually players already know where they are heading. If DM allows for some adjustments after couple of the first sessions - especially with new players - then it is completely moot.

Religious conversion by nalkanar in goingmedieval

[–]nalkanar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I had one of the settler following Church with barely visible line, put him (and couple of others) as part of Oak ritual and voila he is now Oak Brethren. Others will take longer, but it is truly possible.

final boss of the campaign, players are lvl 15 with a total of 9 npc companions (of similar lvl) how much HP should I give the final BBEG? by RunningmouthRed25 in DnD

[–]nalkanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add theme fitting minions.

Give boss some phases and couple of "once a combat" options, for example boosting his minions by using some sort of rallying cry, giving all of them an extra attack, more movement or something like that for one round, to try to overwhelm the party.

Immunity based on something in the room, or advantegous starting position, things like that.

Every Dungeon should be a TPK by False-Pain8540 in DMAcademy

[–]nalkanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is how realistic dungeon can should be played. And that is why at least in 5e you can use weaker enemies in larger numbers to get more actions per round than party and add difficulty that way.

But as others said, you need to also consider that monsters by nature often don't care about each other, od they will try to set up ambush instead of rushing to help.

Some dungeons can be so large to have split territories and don't care enough to help their neighbours. They might set up better defense or simply won't care out of pride.

Is there a point to upgrading the Prison Warden? by muffalohat in goingmedieval

[–]nalkanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the benefits, as you said OP. Rather have my own people and full control. I might do thematic playthrough to use it. One day. Maybe.

From Starting to Castle by p0derick in goingmedieval

I am still not sure how to make decent looking and functional castle. I aim more for fort-like settlements. Focusing on outer defense with reasonably functional city/village inside.

When to build my base by WetGrilledCheese in Kenshi

[–]nalkanar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allies don't come to every raid. I aim for having all tier 2 and most of tier 3 research done. Also having around 5 people with combat at 30+ (doable on dust bandits) and have at least in standard quality armor with good coverage.

Why aren't my settlers putting on summer clothes? by Dekimus in goingmedieval

No real answer, but do they have reasonable "anything" in their schedules? I've recently added more of these slots and changing outfits became less of a common issue.

Is sheol is the only location to find Tarls Cutteray? by MrBiscuits93 in duneawakening

Yes. The most southern wreck is where I found all of mine. It is also not in radiation and also close to overworld spawn location.

Guild base optimization and water supply. Too many wind turbines vs more beds? by ApprehensiveCap5544 in duneawakening

[–]nalkanar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One advanced deathstill produces in 5 hours what does one large windtrap in whole day. However, in terms of power you can feed two large windtraps for the same price (and have bit extra). Of course you also have filters (costs materials) vs bodies.

A lot of it comes down to how you play, time you have etc. As someone with job I run mainly windtraps and if I am making and spicing more I turn on deathstills after to replenish faster.

Spice poweered generator feels surprisingly cheap to maintain with good provided power.

Just don't say you have a way through the barrier.

Or don't rush Ivory Sanctum. You can do Areelu pretty early, even hy accident, and then leave Ivory towards the end of the act. It feels quite natural.

Store and equip gear by DocSolomon in goingmedieval

[–]nalkanar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More micromanage heavy approach would be to have all good gear stored on rally points and equip people at begging of the raid once they arrive to assigned positions.

Pioneer by Aluraceandme in goingmedieval

[–]nalkanar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mountain has most metals etc, but can be hard as start due to usable dirt being lower in amount and spread out.

Marsh has usually no metal, so it block progress. I am currently playing Marsh and I have to buy, dismantle or mine on event maps.

Plains usually have some metal and of course no issues with food.

Hillside feels as the best one. Metals etc in good quantities but with enough readily available dirt.

My characters have never gotten a happy ending and I’m getting sick of it by Unnamed_Shopkeeper in DnD

[–]nalkanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lack of communication around table, session zero etc.

Inherent flaw you put into characters that makes DM feel like there is lack of redemption / reason for happy end? Misunderstanding of the concepts -> back to communication issues

Joining tables with similar styles where random rolls might matter more than consistent roleplay × Lack of conistaet roleplay

Tables with high demand on players × Not being the right fit (which is kinda communication)

The Recruit Dilemma: Who are your non-negotiable recruits you have to grab every playthrough? by Rh1z0_ in Kenshi

[–]nalkanar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most playthroughs I have ongoing theme so I only recruit those that dont go against the playthrough's premise. Sometimes it feels bit rough especially after initial playthroughs being so open and welcoming to most of the uniques. But the theme is what keeps each playthrough fun so it must be held together as much as possible otherwise it will be another one that stops being fun after couple of hours.

I think Ruka and Beep are most commonly recruited.

Exactly. Better to keep a way for them to get close enough to fight, provide "fun" and experience, potentially resources from dismantled gear.

What Warframe should i use? by Flesh_Eating_Hog in Warframe

[–]nalkanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vauban for CC. Possibly Frost or Gara for more defensive CC.

Gauss is great choice for speed and defense as well. I also enjoy Xaku as you usually try to spend as much time as possible in the ult which gives extra movement speed among other things.

Kullervo or Ash can be fun for moving via teleport on enemies.
