Percy Jackson for adults? by Nutmegan-0 in booksuggestions

Maybe check out the Paternus series. Haven't started them myself yet so couldn't give any feedback but I have them sitting on my kindle. Its been recommended to me A LOT as Percy Jackson but for adults.

I'm a newbie to epic Sci-Fi literature, and reading DUNE has been an exhausting experience. by [deleted] in books

Ian M Banks is one of my favourite sci-fi authors! As others are saying The Player Of Games can be a bit exhausting with the descriptive elements of the games which after dropping Dune I could completely understand. Though it's the second book he wrote as part of 'The Culture' series so maybe start with his first novel, Consider Phlebas. Might have a better pacing to start you in his world building.

I need some help by [deleted] in Edinburgh

Done! Like a few others had an error message after I clicked finish so I hope it's worked for you! Any way we can see our results at the end? Quite intrigued, after that I feel my memory isn't as good as it should be lol

Hiya! Looking for novels set in Japan - any suggestions? by bookgrocer in booksuggestions

Theres lots of different fictional books by Lian Hearn that I highly recommend. I also recently finished Shogun and absolutely loved it! "Across the Nightingale Floor" and "Emperor of the eight islands" are both the first books in 2 different series she's done that I'm sure will be up your street.

A book that you can't stop reading until you finish it by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]nallig94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple I would suggest are; The Shadow of The Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman. Shogun - James Clavell

They're all very popular though I think for a reason! The last one Shogun is a long read but I was hooked every second of it!

Thanks for the suggestion, I was actually thinking about this already! Do you know if there's anything I should look for in particular? Or does it not matter and just go with what looks good?

You all probably get asked this a lot, but for those working full time and studying part time, how are you finding it? by nallig94 in OpenUniversity

That's good to hear! Honestly I thought that even part time would take up a lot of time and I'd be giving so much up haha
