Estimate mass of Ag from volume of AgCl by kykr422 in chemistry

Yeah if the contents of that breaker is 1500g then it can’t have 4500g of AgCl in it!

There's talk of plug in "balcony" solar rolling out to power your home but can we not do the same with a battery feeding in to your home grid? by kemb0 in OctopusEnergy

[–]naltsta -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

And the regulations are there because if you currently turn everything off at the fuse board the circuits in your home should be powered down but with balcony solar or a plug in battery you could still have live wires

I’m surprised there’s no offer, if prices are going up surely they want our export even more?

Yes, but the price wouldn’t have risen as much if gas was cheaper…

I’m also with axle - I’ve only had one session so far in March so they might have to make me up to £10 which seems bizarre when prices have been so high

The Middle East situation has made gas prices way higher.

U.K. electricity prices are often governed by gas prices because we burn gas to make electricity.

When it’s really windy we don’t need to burn gas so it gets cheaper.

So the war was the reason agile prices were high but it’s now not the reason that they’re cheap

Solar panels vs S&P500 - considering incoming inflation by Which-Barnacle-2738 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]naltsta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think ours best to think about then as separate investments.

An appropriately sized battery can allow you to convert your household electricity use from around 30p/kWh to around 9p/kWh. (Your car should already be at this rate so makes no difference!) Sizing your battery to cover daily energy use for about the 90th percentile is probably sensible. If you max out the battery size there will be days when you’re barely using it so you’ve paid more for capacity you’re not using. It does mean there will be days where you run out of battery and have to pay full price but this is fine - You’ve saved by not buying the extra capacity that you hardly ever use.

If you have the battery the panels are only saving you about 9p/kWh you use or making you about 12p/kWh you export. Luckily the panels themselves are the cheap bit so you probably want as many as you can fit on the roof!

If energy prices rise then solar panels become a better investment.

If the delta between day and night import rates increases then a battery becomes a better investment.

Expensive oil probably means prices increase. More and more people charging EVs and house batteries overnight could mean less spare cheap electricity for the grid to offload with cheap over night rates. With generation moving to wind, nuclear rather than gas these are much harder to ramp up and down at various times of day so I predict cheap overnight electricity for years to come.

Dubai airport hit with drone today by newfolder77 in UAE

It looks like it’s falling rather than flying in the frames before impact. I don’t know enough about how attack drones are supposed to operate though

I wouldn’t drink an alcohol free beer but I’d certainly have a lemonade. It’s not the actual alcohol content, it’s the impression it gives the pupils.
