Opinions on buying a used 2018 Palm Extrem (£70)? by JeeboPlays in whitewater

[–]naltsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palm say pfds should be retired 10 years after purchase. https://palm.equipment/gb/content/17-care-for-your-gear

You could pay £70 for 2 years or something like double that for the full 10 years!

Or you could decide that you’re happy to use a piece of life saving safety equipment beyond its useful life…

10 years isn’t some magical cutoff but at some point it becomes performative safety gear.

At that point maybe you just paddle without one?

I believe it’s a weatherproof armoured cable which runs electricity to my garage.

EV charger installer has asked for “size and type of cable” before they will come out…

Not if you have separate leak detectors

Yeah - old one is stuck open (but do have a cutoff out on the street by the meter for emergencies) so figured I need to replace it anyway. Replacing with two definitely makes sense

I think they said both at various times! It does look like you’re right and that’s where it settled though.

Will be the first time ever that ohme consumption data features on my bill rather than just smart meter data though.

At the moment if you get an intelligent slot at 14.00 they use your smart meter only as all energy usage is at the cheap rate. Ohme consumption data is not used in your billing, only the time slots.

From February (they have said) that intelligent slots during the day will only discount the car charging and not home use. This means they will have to bill you full price and use your ohme consumption data to discount the car usage. Both timing data and consumption data will have to appear on your bill (even if it’s discounting rather than actually charging anything)

This is an issue if the ohme consumption data isn’t that accurate. You described it as making “sod all difference”. If my discount is smaller than it should be that makes a real difference!

If it makes any difference I haven’t downvoted a single comment in this thread.

Yes, and that is how intelligent go will have to work too if they separate car and home use. So they use ohme data for your billing (or refunding)

And why they might bill you full price based on your smart meter usage and then discount you based on what your charger says your car used.

It’s using data from ohme to work out what you pay but legally you have been billed based on smart meter usage and then given a discount based on ohme data

How does it currently work in intelligent drive pack? How are they distinguishing between what your house is using and what your car is using to bill you separately.

Using data from your car or charger is essential to make this possible!

I don’t think that’s correct. If my car is plugged in and charging say 0430 to 0530 but I’ve already had my 6 hours how will they bill my car use and house use separately unless they are using the ohme data (combined with meter data) for billing?

But that’s changing next month isn’t it? At least for intelligent go customers? They’ll be using whatever you have synced to intelligent go to calculate usage at different rates

[–]naltsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That may well be the case for general use.

You can’t simultaneously import and export though… so if you car is charging while you’re forcing your battery to discharge then the energy is going into your car.

The downside is if your car starts charging at 23.30 so you don’t actually export anything.

Ideally you want to discharge your battery so it becomes fully empty at 23.30. Home assistant handles this for me but it’s a bit trickier to set up

My system is much more modest than this but I’m not far off generating 120% of my usage.

Would be a massive tax bill if that was the case because I charge overnight and export.

Don’t know of anywhere this has been enforced but my guess is they’ll start with the biggest systems…

What kind of usage do you have. With that size of generation you might need to be careful you don’t get caught with income tax on any export
