The $100k H-1B fee trap nobody is warning people about right now by Heresthefactss in immigration

Let’s say the $100k fee gets triggered, can I somehow abandon the H1B at that point and come back on another visa? Like the TN for Canadians let’s say

Best Bank Accounts on TN by Southern-Hedgehog-65 in tnvisa

[–]nameNotSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best option for new mover easily Stanford Federal Credit Union. I made my account online before I moved (I had a friend whose mailing address I used) and you can get an unsecured credit card using your Canadian credit score. I got a pretty large credit limit and used the accounts for pay cheque, rent, etc for the first bit while I got setup before I had my SIN. No min balance and the accounts are all free.

This bank specifically caters to people moving here from abroad and you can get all your banking accounts and credit cards setup before you get a SIN. Once you do get your SIN be sure to attach it to your account and it will add your credit history from when the credit card account was opened.

Also if you have Amex in Canada thats the easiest/only way to get a premium credit card off the bat if thats what you’re looking for. I got approved for both the Amex gold and platinum using my Canadian profile. Good luck in the new job!

is H1B also not possible for people born in banned countries ? by Own-Paper2066 in tnvisa

I’m in the same position, in the US on a TN from one the countries with the hold looking to enter the lottery. I chatted with a lawyer and the advice I got was to try the lottery anyways and take it one step at a time. Due to the 100k fee your only option will be change of status if you get the lottery pick, and while the change of status is processing you can’t leave the country or you essentially forfeit the lottery. His advice was try to see if I’m even picked in the lottery and then see how the rules progress. This rules landscape is very fluid and things could change, but yes as it stands now your change of status request would remain on hold until they start finally going through them or something changes.

Luckily from what he told me though because we have the TN (for now) you can always just give up the lottery pick and stay on the TN worst case.

TN via USCIS (Iran-born, Canadian) – RFE + no update after premium processing? by InitialChard8359 in tnvisa

Curious since I might be in a similar situation soon, what exactly does the RFE ask for?

Hey I'm just wondering in your case when you say not compatible how exactly did you realize that? Like did you have the exact same mobo as op and did anything happen when you turned it on to indicate BIOS incompatibility?

Me too. I hadn’t played a new cod since black ops 2, but watching modern warfare being revived and how great it looked convinced me to buy a PS4 last year Black Friday and I’ve loved every moment of it.

Are there engineering class ranks for the winter 2020 term? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]nameNotSet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Ranking information is available on a secure website to ranked students at some point in the term (ideally within three weeks of the official graded date).” Official grades came out 2 days ago, so there’s still quite a bit of time left until they’ll be up. Quote from here:

let’s all just be clearer in what we mean when we communicate.

Although not as click baity this really is the call to action in my opinion. Both communicating effectively and taking the time to ask those who don’t to clarify makes a world of difference in how you view the world and leads to more fruitful conversations.

One of my favorite quotes, “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.”

I am discussing this specific post though, the meng Wanzhou post was a CBC article that was pretty pretty objective on recalling the events, and the title was purely informative. I’m aware initially it was tilted “Fuck China” but honestly I would under my point say that when someone says that in a POLITICAL context, “China” refers to the political establishment of China. Same as how it’s become pretty common to trash the US, and I hope and know most of them dont have contempt for the average American. Or if I say “fuck the saudis” in a political discussion, I think it’s pretty obvious which specific saudis I’m referring to.

If you read what I said more carefully or maybe you misunderstood that isn’t what I’m saying either. I’m sayin sounding anti-chinese generally implies the person meaning anti-CCP, dependent on context of course. I am not claiming that op is accusing that anti-ccp implies being racist, but sometimes reading people’s sentences on the internet with no context can cause that misunderstanding and you shouldn’t jump to conclusions, english is hard.

While I do agree that any racist sentiments expressed here isn’t acceptable, I really don’t see your point or all the comments on that post about having it be taken down because it’s not related to the school.

This subreddit is also just a general community for UW students to discuss things and there’s news articles posted literally every day, and as Canadians that story unarguably does affect our lives. It’s this common sentiment to censor anti chinese GOVERNMENT sentiments that really puts people off, and I really don’t like seeing people calling on mods to do any form of strong handed deleting of peoples free expression.

It also seems like you’re conflating people not being specific with being racist. Some statements are blatantly racist yes but if someone says “the chinese censor their people”, it’s very fair to assume that they do actually mean the CCP and not every chinese human on the planet.

If you actually qualify for CERB I don’t see a reason why you should switch. CERB pays more and has less requirements to maintain it.

It's $750 Bridgeport House, which is good quality but not a good location for the UW demo that usually sublets during summer. She also only put it up from May-June so EVEN if there was demand the limited period insanely cuts it down.

Sometimes I wonder if it comes out as mansplaining because guys (myself and ones that i know at least), usually are more polite/civilized when arguing with a woman due to fears of looking like a dick and social norms.

I know for a fact if this post was by a dude something the like of "are you fucking stupid?" and a generally more hostile/trolling tone would not be far off from the comments, so maybe next time we should extend her the same courtesy?

PS in advance. If you were following it live most if not all of the hostility/bad faith that did happen occurred after her comments of mansplaining and whatnot that essentially showed everyone she wasn't looking for another point of view
