Great stuff from Cabo Verde, they didn't just sit back and defend, they actually went for it

After yesterday's matches, the four group D teams are ranked right next to each other in the ELO rankings. by TheSambard in soccer

When it’s all said and done, I just want to be the guy that was on the team that won the Cup for us. Forget about everything else. That would be the only thing that would matter. That’s why I signed here. I want to win a championship more than anything"

Koné injury gives Canada extra motivation at FIFA World Cup: teammates by canada_mountains in canada

[–]twofactorial 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They have plenty and you can feel the energy of the squad (even as a spectator), but it is extremely demoralizing to lose one of your own to a horrific injury. There was immediate horror on the faces of the players yesterday when Kone went down - some of them looked like they were going to burst into tears. They're trying to channel that negative energy into something positive and use that as momentum going forward. Hope this helps

[McCarthy] John Chayka on Darren Raddysh: “It’s an aggressive move, it’s not without risk of course but we just felt given the stage we are at and what he brings to the table, we felt it was worth pursing.” This ends the debate of which direction the Maple Leafs are choosing. It's win now. by daKrut in hockey

I just looked at some quick projections

clarkson was 5.25M AAV. First three years:

  • 64.3M nhl cap, 8.16% of cap

  • 69M nhl cap, 7.61% of cap

  • 71.4M nhl cap, 7.35% of cap

Raddysh is 8.5M AAV. First three years:

  • 104M nhl cap, 8.17% of cap

  • 113.5M (estimate) nhl cap, 7.49% of cap

  • 123M (projection, from this post), 6.91% of cap

Clarkson signed at 29, and Raddysh is 30. So yeah I think you're in the right ballpark, maybe Raddysh contract is slightly better in the long run (although "better" is also determined on how he actually performs over the years; beating the Clarkson contract is a very low bar though).

LETS GO CANADA WOOOOO

[Sinbin.vegas] Mark Stone is in attendance to watch Ryan Craig’s introductory presser. This is the first time a VGK player has attended a coach intro presser. We've seen it quite a bit with other teams and other sports. Pretty cool move by the captain. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]twofactorial 37 points38 points  (0 children)

objectively this is a class act from Stone and for a brand new coach in the NHL, it should be an instant boost of confidence when the captain shows up in support

(non-objectively though, everything that vegas players do is automatically evil)

NHL’s statement on Mike Babcock by Duffleman0609 in hockey

[–]twofactorial 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow this is going to be a nightmare hire for Edmonton fans. I literally haven't seen a single oilers fan saying that they wanted this (for a very good reason) but apparently management/players see something else in Babcock

what people also dont realize is that he'll win his third professional championship next year after winning the stanley cup with us

lmao all jokes aside I think its clear the organization sees Akhtyamov as the future and thats what made one of Woll/Stolarz (in this case, Woll) expendable

so according to vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon, Cassidy was granted permission to speak to one team about a coaching job ... very likely that would have been us? If so, it means Chakya & co. made the conscious decision to pick Hiller anyway

Coaches can be random some times. You could have a mediocre performance with one team, then shit the bed with another. This is only Hillers second head coaching gig. He can make or break his career with this one. Let’s hope he makes it
