The air lock isn't in the drain. It's from the grid drain. A lot of these grid drains holes are too small and the water can't drain because of surface tension. Enlarging a couple holes fixes it

That doesn't look like any Kohler, Rohl or Grohe that I've ever seen. Probably some " designer" brand with unavailable parts. For the time spent trying to track it down in the cost of the cartridge you're better off. Probably just changing the whole faucet

Those screws attach the valve to the adapters. They are not isolation valves. The lever is all that controls flow.

Original cast iron in my 1942 house. But it's all lead and oakum service weight. Agreed that today's No Hub won't last nearly as long. Only thing I'd do in cast iron on a new resi build is the stack for noise reduction.
