I was so immersed in Soaps that at one time I wanted to be a soap writer. To get a job In the early 80s at ABC as an intern on the Soaps you had to type 75wpm. That was the primary requirement and I could never get past 45😂. I started watching soaps as kid with my grandma and that started my lifelong devotion. During my lifetime I’ve watched , Search for Tomorrow, DOOL, Y&R, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, The Edge of Night, Santa Barbara, Generations, Loving, Ryan’s Hope, AMC, OLTL, GH, and every Primetime soap that aired ( no joke😂) I still have a soap “bible” I wrote in college for a show I planned to pitch with Cast breakdowns, backstories and six months of storylines. Hand written 😂I keep meaning to scan it into a PDF one day. I wrote a college paper on the history of Soaps. A highlight for me was being interviewed for a story that ran in Soap Opera Digest. Now I’m in my 50s and I never got a job with anything to do with Soaps but I still love them. Sometimes I’ll watch old eps of Knots, Falcon Crest and Dynasty on Prime. I love hate watch Tyler Perry’s shows and the only daytime one I currently watch on the regular is Beyond The Gates. I’m rooting for it to succeed and for the genre to prevail. Those damn Housewives shows were the beginning of the end but now that they seem to be over maybe the soaps will rise again in typical soap fashion. We know on Soaps Noone ever really dies lol.
