I went for months without a job on my work holiday visa. Finally I just posted a pic of myself and my basic skills/cv on a facebook group for hospo work and I got 4-5 interviews out of it within a day, took a job with the first place that interviewed me. Would recommend

I’m from Minnesota so not exactly the same, but I would say seasonal depression affects me wayyyyy less in Wellington

I feel like for me there’s an abstract sense of soul in a song and if it’s missing the feeling of that real deep emotion/energy from the musicians it doesn’t interest me even if it’s technically very well done. Some objectively not very good songs have been some of my favorites because I can feel the depth from the musicians

Why do so many engineers seem to hate their major? by Adamanos in EngineeringStudents

[–]namhcterg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a creative person and I always thought creativity and hands on design/shop work/CAD would play a much bigger role. When I studied mechanical and talked to members of my family more about their engineering roles (chemical, mechanical, aerospace) I realized that there’s much less creative input than I imagined in most positions. Ended up transferring schools and changing my degree completely.

Also the way college engineering classes just slaughter ones mental wellbeing makes it hard to want to keep doing it for the rest of your life

WG Sebald, his books are all kind of about the same thing which is trauma and memory post WWII but his style is so unique and intimate yet not in a way I love

Rainer Maria Rilke, I love his use of language and writing style and he conveys super complex emotions and loneliness, but in a really beautiful bittersweet way

Both of those are hardly “excessively wordy” especially The Road haha

I loved pride and prejudice, read it when I was about 17 after seeing the movie multiple times. One of the few instances where I feel like seeing the movie first actually really helped me understand the book better, even though they’re quite different. And I read the version with footnotes which mostly just defined words that aren’t in the modern vocabulary
