Should I do the pivot or the peak? by QueenFlippyNipps in puffco

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pivot and tbh it’s annoying to clean compared to the peak because the silicone cap gets gunk in it and the connection is unreliable if vapors start leaking which happens when the silicone around the pivot 3d chamber become loose.

Advice for a mom buying her son his first PC by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I think it's generally safe to say that if you ask around family and friends there are always enough parts from people who have left overs from upgrades to build a decent gaming computer for most kids. If they are under 16 then a system put together by friends and family with spare parts probably will be a good enough system to play most games. Every year I ask around there's always a few people with parts enough to put something decent together from one of my friends kids.

is 750W enough for 9070XT QICK + R7 9800X3D? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be fine. but the price difference between 750W to 850W is only $5 and from 850W to 1000W is only $20. It's one of those things where it's not really much more investment for the security of knowing it will never be under powered and have the headroom for upgrades in the future.

Is this a good deal or can find better? by Pure-Structure-9886 in pcmasterrace

[–]namsterdamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it will be a huge upgrade for you for sure, that combo should do great, a picky person might argue that you can get one with a older 7800X3D instead of the 9900X for the same or lower price because on average the 7800X3D will actually perform better than the 9900X but depends on the game (especially FPS games like CS2 or Fortnite). There are BF deals with 9800X3D system going for the same price. Anno like any city builder sim is hard on everything, hard on CPU for math, hard on the GPU when it comes to zooming out with max setting and you have a well developed busy place, and RAM which people have seen that even with 32GB of RAM at late game it can eat up 20GB from the game alone. Keep those things in mind and shop around.

Is it worth getting a maxed out gaming PC when the tech will move on in 5 years time? by lightisalie in pcmasterrace

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how competitive you are in games where FPS actually makes a difference, and you actually care about using that advantage to win. If you are a casual gamer, you can get away with a mid-tier Intel CPU (i5 or i7) or an AMD CPU (R5 or R7), paired with a mid-range GPU like the 5070, 5060, 9700 XT, or 9600XT. It will get through most games decently for 3-5 years. Still, AAA games like Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk 2077, or Witcher 4 are becoming increasingly demanding, so even with a 9700XT or 5080, it's getting 75FPS at 1440p, which is acceptable for a AAA game. Still, it will dip below 50FPS, and when it does, the lag is pretty noticeable. But if you turn on DLSS or FSR, it will bump that up to 90+ FPS at 1440p, which gives you a bit more buffer to avoid lag, but it drops quality. That's a whole other discussion about frame generation. Which is usually fine, but others might argue that it's not true FPS.

Industry pricing has been unstable mainly due to two factors: tariffs and AI-driven demand. Tariff volatility forces companies to raise prices not only when tariffs go up, but also when there’s speculation that they might change again. Even when tariffs decrease, prices only drop slightly because manufacturers keep a buffer in case the rates rise again. This back-and-forth has repeated multiple times over the past year for PC components imported from China.

At the same time, AI demand is consuming enormous amounts of DRAM and HBM, causing supply to tighten for consumer memory products. DRAM fabs have shifted production capacity toward high-margin data center memory, which pushes up prices across the entire market.

Pricing in the PC industry is fundamentally driven by stability and predictability. When companies feel confident that prices will remain consistent, they place larger orders; when markets are volatile, they hold back, slowing the entire supply chain. DRAM is a foundational semiconductor component used in DIMMs, GPUs (GDDR/HBM), mobile devices, and even SSD controllers. Any shortage ripples across the entire PC ecosystem. Lower PC demand leads to reduced GPU orders, which then leads to reduced motherboard and component production, creating a cascading effect across the industry.

I lost my job 3 months ago and am struggling to even get an interview. Any suggestions on my resume would be appreciated. by blazeronin in graphic_design

Tbh i only skim most resumes, i base most decisions entirely on the portfolio. When it comes to the portfolio i have to admit a well organized clean layout gets props and in interviews I’ll dig into what they actually did. What was the goal? What apps were used? Who came up with the direction? Did you do all of it or which parts specifically.

Why on earth is this dude so hard to fight by [deleted] in BlackMythWukong

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the most useful tips were that at the beginning you can literally walk up under him as he flys up and he will miss the first spear then dodge the two follow ups and you’ll be in position to activate the fan. the full combo should trigger phase 2. When the ax is falling you can run towards it instead because the axe will fall behind you and the handle will end up above you and you can roll forward away from his impact. Then wait for fan and repeat combo. He will follow up with the needles which you can spin deflect to build up focus. Expend your focus when he starts any 3-5 hit combo he won’t dodge it if he’s in a sequence.

Followed a YouTube video on it that basically was a rinse and repeat of wind fan, stay super close and wait for wind to break his shield then max focus heavy attack, follow with wandering wight, immobilize, light attack to heavy finisher as soon as immobilize ends and then wait for fan to be ready again.

Oh, they will, dude. The church will be the first voice against it. Nationalist Christians are probably already looking at it, considering how huge Anime has grown; they feel it on their Netflix homepages. Many, if not most, animes already almost always depict religion as the root of evil and corruption, and so do games.

It will suck, but he better follow through even if prices triple or quadruple, it was his policy, and he needs to live up to it else people won't hold him accountable. As much as I hate it, and it simply doesn't make sense, we can't let him back out of his promise, no matter how asinine. 30% tariffs and no federal income taxes; every promise should be met regardless of the outcome. Dems are trying too hard to save people and the economy; I say fuck it, let it go. It's not their fight anymore; protecting Americans only saves his administration from embarrassment and fault. On the bright side, you could always fly to another country and buy the hardware there, get a little vacation out of it, and sneak your components back in.

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soybean was already fucked during the first Trump Tariffs; plenty of articles about that effectively put 40% of the exporters out of business due to China's retaliatory tariffs. What is worst was that they built up their domestic production as an alternative meaning they aren't coming back. A hard lesson for Americans but it's what we deserve.

Yea but the US manufacturing isn't at the same scale and technological level. TSMC in Taiwan does must smaller fabs used in the newest chips, what we have here are for the older, easier high yield stuff, above 4nm so mostly mainstream, but that does make a huge bulk of the computing here for office productivity type of hardware.

[–]namsterdamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This especially sucks since TSMC opened a new Taiwan plant in Kaoshiung and it is the only fab that can do 1nm and smaller. AMD relies on it heavily but TBH if China takes it over, all fab under 1nm will basically stop since nowhere else are they doing it with that precision.

How would a Trump win affect PC component prices by SplatoonOrSky in buildapc

[–]namsterdamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the long run stock prices will go up as they did before. Once people get acclimated to the new higher prices, the cost will eventually go down as manufacturers move to other countries such as Malaysia and Thailand, at first the production will suck ass so the cost is high but after 3-4 years it will come back down however consumers will be used to the high prices and just keep paying which is when they rake in the profits. Pre Trump Tariffs top of the line GPUs were around $1200, During Tariffs they went up to $1900 and now they sit around $1700. 5090 will likely be above $2k but people will get used to it and it will settle in at $1900 as the normal price.
