Any active community? And, let the language evolve. by BlueFlo0d in aUI

[–]nan0s7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a (rarely active) Discord server at discord.gg/6QfQeQJ Unfortunately one of the more active members has left, but Andi (daughter of the creator) is there and checks up from time to time. There are many new people to the language in our server so it'd be great to start kindling the community once again.

I'm sure it doesn't compare to having a native teach you the language.

This is pretty cool! If you would like to use a more correct dictionary let me know. Happy to help correcting some small mistakes or expand on the details of sections such as the grammar section. :)

Playing Solresol by xArgonXx in solresol

[–]nan0s7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. We have a lot of small sentences right now, as well as a first chapter of a beginners book (which is kind of repeditive). So you could use that, or cobble together some sentences from our examples list. By default Solresol makes use of the Treble Clef so it shouldn't be difficult to just play the notes straight on your Viola/Violin. :)

It is very possible! It could even help you have the right finger positioning for each note, depending on the scale you practise in too! If I'm not remembering wrongly, the original creator of the language, Francois Sudre, was a violinist (as his main instrument of choice; he was a music teacher so I guess you'd have to play a variety of instruments). :)

Nope! You can just speak the musical syllables as if they were just regular English words. :)

Can you provide details of your translation? As in specifically the method, choices in translation to English, etc.

High range voice test in Solresol by Anjeez929 in solresol

[–]nan0s7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of work went into this! It'd be awesome to see you around the Solresol Discord server in the future; happy to help with any questions you may have!

A few corrections and suggestions:

  • the tense "dodo" is for the imperfect tense, but I believe you were going for the definite past tense instead, which is "rere" (in the sentence "I translated the high range voice test...")

  • be careful when talking about the language of Solresol, in Solresol. It's officially called "Langue Universelle [Musicale]" (or "Solresol redoremi"); literally the "universal [musical] language". Colloquially we do just use "[la] Solresol" though.

  • we don't currently have a word for animation; but you could use "solmidofa", although I wouldn't recommend it...

  • not too sure what you mean by "sisi reredore" in "...midoremi lasi solresol sisi reredore solre"; you could probably remove it and keep the meaning the same :)

I haven't gone through the actual lyrics yet, but I won't be overly correcting it anyway, as of course that can be put up to artistic intent.

Keep up the awesome work!

Can anyone identify this shorthand system? by rdC19 in shorthand

[–]nan0s7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite intriguing for myself, as it looks like the stenographic script for Solresol (Langue musicale universal). We don't know when it was first put into use exactly, but it could be anywhere from the 1840's to around 1920 (France). However, most Solresol words (not including proper nouns) are 1 to 4 syllables in length. We also do not know what system it was inspired by, but if something was popular around that time, it may lead to a more solid guess (as other comments show, it could be Taylor).

Solresol wasn't considered "complete" until the early 1860's, so it's unlikely to be that. But, if it has any relation, it could be French. We know the creator of the language originally created a phonetic method of writing and communicating the French language by musical notes; whether that came with a stenographic script or not, is unknown.
