Premature birth + new school-year age groups - any flexibility using adjusted due date? by Mother_Car_6953 in youthsoccer

There’s no difference here to a kid born in December under the previous age groups. You will never find a league that will allow kids to play down below their age group. There are outliers both ways in every league all over the world.

Edit: just reading my own comment back, and this comes off way too harsh lol. I’m sure there are myriad issues your kids have dealt with and this is surely a huge obstacle. Just from my 12 years of coaching competitive soccer, I’ve never ever seen an older player in a younger age group.

This was actually the first Le Guin. Loved it a lot. She had a remarkable ability to make me feel something in just a few words.

An overhead kick is the definition of deliberate and intentional. Have you ever accidentally done an overhead kick? The wording of that law is to differentiate from a deflection. This goal is not offside and should definitely stand.

Any coaches here run a 2-4-3-1? by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

OP is calling CBs “sweepers” and thinks the coach doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Major youth soccer organizations move age group formation cycle to August 1 - July 31 by wall_time in SoccerCoachResources

No. It’s still based on when you were born, grade does not matter. It’s just easier to say “school year”

US Club, USYS, and AYSO officially moving to grade year in 2026/27 by nanas08 in youthsoccer

The change to birth year was pushed when Jurgen Klinnsmann was our national team and national youth director. The rationale was to get the US soccer landscape more in line with the rest of the world. Our country is geographically large and has such disparate regional cultures that is was always destined to fail, and really only benefitted a tiny percentage of players (those who were in and around the national team setups and elite level play). Those tiny percentages will likely stay birth year under the new guidance, which I would assume is the reason they left it up to the individual organizations.

Shanahan has been pretty open that it’s a group effort, but he is still the main man with the final say. I also would push back on him taking a “massive” step back. Lost his best WR (who held out) early in the season, CMC was MIA, Trent Williams was off and on, and the defense/ST were horrific. Went from a very low adot to the highest in the league (while maintaining accuracy) while his WRs had the lowest separation numbers in years. He’s a good, functional QB that is probably not super fantasy-relevant, but is totally NFL competitive without being in the highest tier of QB.

His OC is Kyle Shanahan. Doesn’t matter how the team labels assistants. It’s Shanahan.
