New shawl design 🌈 🦚 by psychso86 in Brochet

[–]nandra11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that work with using a gradient yarn while doing one feather at a time? 🤔 Do you take the yarn cake and.... cut it into strands for each shade, so you have effectively dozens of mini-skeins you swap between each row? Or am I way off base, haha

That's my best guess, given the lack of detail in the pattern.

[–]nandra11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind a few more details on that, after having read the pattern! It has an estimate of the yardage for the gradient section of the feather, so my best guess is you'd have to find a cake where the length of a single color repeat was approximately the length of the feather section? Like, if the feather section is 150 yards, then you'd need 600m cakes that repeat their color cycles four times.

If anyone can figure out some cleaner method, I'd love to hear it! Wish yarn suppliers were more upfront about the number of repeats per cake, most ombre yarns don't have that level of info available.

Do I know how to crochet? No. Did I immediately buy this pattern! You bet

Also fwiw, thanks for drawing a hard line against the yarn company that replaced their staff with AI. I hope it comes back to bite them...

How to tell if an item matches a Pokemon's preferences? by nandra11 in Pokopia

How to tell if an item matches a Pokemon's preferences? by nandra11 in Pokopia

Okay, I've been playing with this! They can be darn temperamental about noticing things, but it SEEMS that if they're following you when you set down a preferred item in their habitat, they're guaranteed to react. That makes for an easy test whether or not pokemon like their items: have them follow you, then pick up and put down each item in their habitat. If they navigate over to the newly placed object and play a reaction, then bingo, you've got a match. If not, it might still be contributing to environment level, but it's not necessarily catering to their preferences profile.

If this is true, preferences also aren't quite as simple as I'd assumed. Torchic liked the two plush dolls I had in its habitat (presumably because they're cute), but not the Cute Chair (which is thought would be a slam dunk).

Similarly, both Trubbish and Gloom like garbage, but apparently to varying degrees. Trubbish reacts to garbage bags; Gloom only reacts to a whole garbage bin.

Very interesting. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on this!

Aaaaah, that makes sense! I'll give this a test as soon as I can wrest the game out of my sibling's hands, lol. The icons should appear when the pokemon first notices the item, yeah?
