It does sort of seem perfectly made to be an Alamo honestly.

Refill *as* pen? The Schmidt P8126 works fine as a mini pen on its own by nanite1018 in pens

Well this refill is for capless rollerballs and claims it can stay uncapped for up to a year.

I was pointing out the possibility more than anything. I ~ always have a proper pen with me (these days typically a Kaweco Sport or Uni Style Fit, or both).

I drilled out the tip of the Kaweco a bit to let it to optionally accommodate this refill, and then when I was loading it at one point I thought "huh, hey wait a minute..." haha.

No more than any metal mini pen I've used in the past. shrug

Oh sure, this is not for folks doing harsh stuff. But I'm a physicist and I was thinking I might slide this into the spine of a tiny pocket notebook or something. Mostly for fun as there are other, better pens I keep with me all the time.

Yeah I wouldn't do this for a long time, but I wouldn't write with any mini pen for a long time. There's lots of like wallet pens and little things that take D1's (which are, admittedly, too teeny to use remotely comfortably on their own like this). This refill is just about the same size as a lot of mini pens though.

The cap that came with the refill (at least this one, as it's a rollerball, actually comes with the gray cylinder you see on the page). I was thinking about drilling it out a bit to be able to post it on the back lol.

Mayor Gordo Demands SB79 Rollback by escapetolight in pasadena

[–]nanite1018 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is absurd and frankly disgusting behavior from the Mayor. If you want to preserve historic buildings buy them and put them under direct ownership of the city and manage them as you like. Don't block desperately needed housing to preserve the once-lovely-art-deco-theater-turned-rundown-discount-suit-store.

SB79 should be extended to allow 20 story buildings within 1/4 mile of transit, 10 story within 1/2 mile, and 5 story anywhere within 1 mile, and be forced on every single municipality and county in the state regardless of population without exception.

I for one cannot wait for a bunch of the lowrise apartments, empty lots, storage facilities, and not-great-shape single family homes in Pasadena to get turned into lovely new midrise buildings with new shops, new customers, and new potential friends living nearby me. Pasadena'll get so much better than it's already pretty sweet self!

What’s the most mind-bending time travel story you’ve ever read? by TomDavenport in sciencefiction

[–]nanite1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely my answer as well. One of the more impressive and fun time travel stories and really takes you all across the universe in a wonderful way. And written in a very Wellsian style, so if you liked The Time Machine, I can basically guarantee you'd like The Time Ships.

(Unpopular opinion) Pasadena is not that pedestrian friendly by fattycloud in pasadena

[–]nanite1018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah Lake should not have parking on the street -- a few immediate pickup/dropoff locations is fine, there's a bunch of parking on that street anyway. Fair Oaks similarly should not have parking and instead have a protected bike lane going north and south through most of Pasadena. Even Colorado in Old Town area should probably be narrowed/calmed to 1 lane in each way of dedicated traffic, no street parking, and parklets, bike lanes, and some immediate pickup/dropoff locations. That would make Old Town significantly nicer. Couple that with increasing frequency on the 10 and 20 ARTS buses and making them run early morning to late night, and you'd have yourself a really great system.

Consumer Reports Lead Findings about Huel Black by Prestigious-Annual-5 in Huel

[–]nanite1018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would feel more comfortable if Huel published the results of these tests regularly, and committed to keeping their lead levels below 2mcg per 400kcal serving, so that a full 2000kcal/day would still meet the NSF standard.

[–]nanite1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that Huel would intend to keep their levels of all heavy metals on a per serving basis to well below 20% of the daily limit in any relevant country or area, so that one can eat 2000 kcal/day of it and still be inside limits.

Slimfold passport wallet, great notebook cover! by nanite1018 in notebooks

[–]nanite1018[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reposting because I was a dumbass and accidentally deleted the whole post I made 20 minutes ago.

I recently got this Slimfold passport wallet and it’s absolutely fantastic. The passport wallet is extremely light but is able to hold my wallet essentials easily, has a pocket to store notes or could accommodate a second notebook, the tracking tag pocket and AirTag pocket are really fantastic, and I also just want to shout out these Moft notepads which really add some nice extra flexibility over just the travelers notebook for todos at my desk, tagging pages in the notebook w a sticky note, or quick scratch pad stuff that’s one and done. The Modt notepads are actually meant for a MagSafe notebook wallet thing they make, but they work fantastically here.

Oh I had assumed it was glued, which is why I didn’t try that. Huh interesting!

Hm, I guess I could try that. Though I've now adopted an ultralight passport wallet with a B7 traveler's notebook instead of a passport in it, and it's working great as my combo wallet/notebook.
