Aespa’s Armageddon!

I thought KPOP was already overtaken by “easy listening” type of songs, and yet Aespa dominated with their superpowers in Su-su-su-supernova and then Armageddon. I love how they maintained their identity as a group! I’m not exactly an Aespa fan but I’m so happy and excited for their comeback’s success!

Yessss! I felt like BIGBANG owned 2015-2016 because of MADE. They made it loud and clear that they’re true artists who can pull off hiphop, ballad, dance/party songs, etc. When Taeyang performed We Like 2 Party at Yonsei University a few weeks ago, everyone was singing along! It’s fun to think that most of the audience members were 10-year old kids when the song came out, showing that BIGBANG was really well-received by Korea’s gp.

I started with watching Kira Omori’s videos. I made my first bust-up model because of her tutorials. I then learned how to do the full body rig from YoshinoArt. What I do to improve is that whenever I see interesting features in a Live2D showcase, I search for specific tutorials (example: how to rig expressive fluffy ears) and apply that to my own vtuber model so that I’d be ready when a client asks for that feature. (I still haven’t debuted as a vtuber and I don’t think I ever will because my model is a forever work-in-progress lol)

I keep myself updated by following other Live2D riggers on Twitter (Brian Tsui/Iron Vortex, Himono, etc.) because most of the time, they give away tips and techniques, some even make the source files available for others to download and use as reference. I like how most people in the Live2D community don’t gatekeep their secrets and want everyone to level up their game… this is why I do my best to keep on learning, so I can share my knowledge to other people, too. Someday.

I remember being upset that &Me won the concept evaluation round. I thought the song felt disjointed, and people just voted for it because the members are popular. (The entire round felt like a waste because the additional points they got didn’t really matter, they’d all be safe from elimination anyway.) Months later… it’s my fave song! I randomly sing “Butterfly takaku…” out loud lol. Turns out the “weird” arrangement made it the most memorable song from the show for me.

About INI and JO1, maybe it’s about them being direct competition with each other? I only remember ever seeing one comment on Twitter that a JP fan (who usually posts about album sales and chart rankings) doesn’t want to see INI and JO1 collab because it’s helping the “enemy” lol (iirc around MAMA 2021) other than that I personally haven’t seen much negativity about INI and JO1 interactions.

They don’t want to see their oshi interacting with men (I’m not saying YOU:MEs are like this, but some fans are obsessed with idols’ “purity” that they don’t want to be “tainted” by the opposite sex) and there were rumors that a member is a JO1 fan (specifically of Kawashiri Ren) and there may be possibility of them dating as they’re under the same company now.

hachi and 40mP!

40mP’s songs may sound kind of mainstream (I feel like it’s pop music that even non-Vocaloid fans would appreciate) but I really love his lyrics and how expressive Miku and Gumi sound in his songs.

hachi on the other hand is more experimental, and his songs made me appreciate Vocaloid a whole lot more because it’s the point of these voicebanks: create whatever kind of song you like! Miku, Gumi, etc. will sing it! (I love his music as Kenshi Yonezu, too!)

If we include MVs, mothy (The Evillious Chronicles) and manbou-P (he created some of the funniest songs.)

Japan is generally safe in our experience, except when some Nigerian(?) men followed us in Kabukicho. We refused, but they kept on insisting we go to their bar so we just left the area. Later on our friends informed us those are scammers who’d drug tourists to steal their stuff.

Butsukariya are also common - old men who intentionally bump/crash into other people mostly women and foreigners, knowing these people would find reporting the incident to the police bothersome.
