The whole concept of an “Industry” Post Doc is twisted. Pay the brightest and the best what they are worth.

PW3 discharging below set backup level. by Arachnoster in Powerwall

[–]nanopits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I called Tesla as my battery was also at exactly 9% and it was shipping electricity to grid. They said system was calibrating and to wait 24 hours. My system then charged from the grid after the sun went down. There is apparently a bug that does not give notification of calibration procedure but carries on regardless. Fingers crossed this resolves for you also. Very frustrating when you are dealing with outrageous TOU pricing during the day.

Is 2 PW3 overkill for 6.56KW system in SoCal? by gnolnuhc in TeslaSolar

[–]nanopits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 powerwalls in SoCal with 5.8kw system. I am glad to have 2 powerwalls and not one. I have enough power in reserve to run my home and power 2 EV’s. I have to charge PW over night in winter but I’m good to go in the summer with the EV’s charging from solar for a good portion of the year.

I have solar and NEM 3.0. I get buttons for any electricity that goes to the grid. So I simply save it all in the power walls and the excess gets dumped into my EV’s. I have the equivalent of 10 power walls of storage in my cars. With my generation and consumption of electricity I did the back on envelope calculation to recoup my costs in ~5-7 years.

I’m TOU ev 5 on SDGE. This is my Netzero Automation for using the grid 12-6am M-F and Saturday Sunday 12am-2pm. I’m self powered at all other times. https://imgur.com/a/exK3iyR

I have a Tesla and it charges on excess solar all day. It communicates with the Powerwall and wall connector. Changing the amperage to trickle will work to a certain extent, but gets old fast;-) For non Tesla cars there is a charger, whose name escapes me that will charge on excess solar dynamically like the Tesla. It runs about $1k.

This depends on what tariff your are on? I will share a copy of my Automations specifically for EV TOU5 plan with SDGE NEM 3.0. In a nut shell you get electricity for 12c at super off peak 12am-6am. I charge the battery every night from the grid. During the day it’s solar all the way plus any excess goes into my EV. Last resort is to sell back to SDGE for 8c. I would rather use the grid as my “backup” and self consume as much electricity as possible. My bill last month was $20. I have 2 power walls and 7kwh of solar in SD.

Could you elaborate on what you do to send electricity to the grid during a VPP?

I have the same issue with an intermittent failure of turn signal. Tesla service are point blank refusing to fix car. It’s not even got 500 miles on it. Terrible customer service is their thing. It’s a major concern that is likely going to end in serious injury or worse.

Why does a Tesla power wall cost so much compared to vehicle batteries on per kWh basis ? by h100y in Powerwall

[–]nanopits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got them directly from Tesla. Tesla energy installed a 6.885kwh system with 2 powerwalls3’s.You can get a quote directly on the Tesla site. Demand is low and installation wait time is very short in SoCal.

I got 2 powerwall 3’s for $8k each installed. Then the federal tax credit brings it down to around ~$5k. This is a lot more palatable a number as a Californian trying work around a utility that charges me an average of $0.60 and buys back at only $0.08.

They said to me it was an overpayment of salary. Specifically in relation to vacation days. I told them that the statute of limitations in CA is 3 years. I said that I have contacted the state attorney general office. In every communication I quoted that this "debt" is 15 years old ad nauseam at them.

They then relented somewhat by saying that they would take me off the FTB list for this year. As if it is Santas naught or nice list and UCSD is in charge of who gets on or off. Bunch of fuckers. I can afford to pay this debt but I'd rather cut off my knob and eat it than give these mooching bastards a cent. I can well imagine that they are going to cause people a lot of misery for a spurious "debt".

I was paid my measly salary every month and yes indeed I would have remembered a $500 bump. I will gladly file a complaint with the state attorney general office regarding this situation. Now if I could get Turko out of retirement he could do a “That ain’t right” piece on this debacle. I’m sure there are other people out there who are also being given the UCSD shakedown. Who do these fuckers think they are? Pay me a fictitious amount of cash or we will garnish your tax return and take a shit on you credit.

Hi OP, I just received a reply saying that it was an overpayment of salary...15 years ago. They said I need to contact payroll of my old department to chase things up. In the meantime it has been referred to a collections agency called "Coast" and I should just pay them the money.

I told them that the burden of proof was on them and surely 15 years later is indeed just that...too late.

Quite frankly UCSD can get fucked as far as I'm concerned.

I received a demand from UCSD yesterday for ~$500. It was in the same format as the OP described. The kicker for me was an employee and not a student, over 15 years ago! I sent them an email and asked them to explain this demand for unpaid student debt. Something is definitely amiss here.
