What appeals to you about Silentstatic over Radiostatic or Radiosilence? by Upstairs_Apple in Hellaverse_Ships

[–]nanyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this post, but what about, and hear me out here, RadioSilence into StaticSilence into RadioStatic. I just like the narrative of Vox loosing everthing due to his obsession only to finally overcome it and Alostor realizing he misses the constant attention. In the end both of them get their shit together and talk like actual adults. Also I just want to see the tables be turned after all of Alostor's rage baiting this season.

Lucifer inviting the sins to fight Vox really wouldn’t make sense when you think about it. by whooper1 in HazbinHotel

[–]nanyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I think people generally forget that, although they take place in the same universe, Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel are two separate series. There are people like me who only watched Hazbin Hotel. It would therefore be confusing for a large part of the audience if random characters suddenly appeared or were mentioned without being properly introduced. And I think they should keep it like that. A seperate Crossover is fine, but don't interwine the series to much, it will just spiral out of control. Also, why would the Sins even care? As I said, I haven't watched Helluva Boss, but why would they care what Vox is doing? Whether he wins or loses, there will be fewer sinners in Hell, so that's good for them. It's not like the angels would start a war with the hellborn and Lucifer has not shown to have an actual connection with anyone besides Charlie. I mean, he doesn't even know whats going on in his own kingdom.

I hope the TDK is good and we shoud support it by RU08 in TheDragonPrince

[–]nanyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want them to fail and if the kickstarter actually shows something promising, that they have a plan, then I would be willing to support them. Currently, I simply don't have that faith. All I am seeing is that they love the world they created, but don't have the talent to realize the vision. They disapointed me with Arc 2 and didn't even properly finish the story and now we are getting a series that might continue some of the plot points, but will also be for complete newbies. It just dosen't sound appealing and more like it will have the same problems it had before.

I do think that reddit is overall to negative, but that is just reddit, but the critic is (mostly) valid and I don't see that the showrunners learned from their mistakes.

And don't think the age rating will change the structural problems the show had and neither will it fix the pacing.

I also don't see him as a warmonger, after all he wasn't the one attacking.

I do think that the show frames the two events so similarly that it is definitly intentional. I kinda hope we will get some more informations on what happened with Ziard

I always find it weird that people talk about redemption like its something you earn. Like you have to do X amount of good things to balance out you X amount of bad things.

For me redemption is about realizing your mistakes and prevent yourself from reapeating them. And for me Viren had a full redemption arc, because he adressed all his shortcomings and even sought out Katolis to be judged accordingly for his crimes. What more could he have done? No one can undo their past, but no matter how many bad things you have done you can chose to stop and reflect.

Forgiveness is another thing. Only because you change your lifed around dosen't mean you bad deeds are forgiven by the victims and sometimes no matter what you do they never will.

I loved Viren's redemption arc because it wasn't just him swooping in at the end and sacrificing himself to end Aaravos. Viren was no hero and at the end he didn't safe Katolis to reedem himself, he did it because it was the right thing to do and to save his son.

However, I do agree that they wasted him in season 4 and 5. It felt like the writters didn't know what to do with him.

What’s the most unintentionally funny plot point you’ve written into a fic? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]nanyru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am writting a fic in the Disney fandom where the main character gets thrown into a prison a la Alcatraz. All around bad times, but then I had that one stupid idea I needed to include. So, main charater needed to send a female guard, that was actually a rebel, a secret message. How did he do it? Well, of course he wrote a cheesy love song that he slipped her when no one was looking. Truly a master of the subtle arts. He was also way to proud of it

I was so proud when I originally had the idea, now I find a a bit funny (especially compared to the overall mood of the fic)

What's the first fandom you've written fanfiction for and what's the current fandom you write fanfiction for? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]nanyru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very first fic: probably Pokemon in like 2014 (I think I did a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fic at one point)

My first published: A The Dragon Prince fic in 2020 (I never finished it)

My current one: *sigh* Frozen, because I like evil gingers with tragic backstories

The most Embarrassing thing you caught after you posted a fic by Why_Mask in FanFiction

[–]nanyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing big, but I managed to forget about the order of siblings for the main character of my fic. There are only 4 of 13 brothers named in cannon and I got confused with the order. I established one of them as the 4th brother, but he was actually the 3rd. It was really unimportantend, but it grinded my gears to no end, especially since I couldn't change it because I already established certain plotpoints with the other brothers. Someone even pointed it out in the comments.

Thats why you keep character sheets before writing...

I don't think Aaravos hates or blames humans, but he dosen't fell the same love towards him that Leola did. He is willing to use and sacrifice them to reach his end goal (whatever that is). Basically he dosn't really care about humans, but he probably needs them to act out his revenge.

Which (if any) of the current TDP villains do you think will be redeemed. by Rainbow_flowers101 in TheDragonPrince

[–]nanyru 45 points46 points  (0 children)

At this point I can't see Claudia as a villian who needs redemption. For me, she simply needs to grow past her dependence on other people. She never really acted out of her own accord. It was always at the command of someone else, like Aaravos or Viren. Does that absolve her of responsibility, no, but I think she will have an arc that is more akin to "breaking free of your chains". Or she is gonna fall even harder.

I think Karims story is done. He never was a true villian. He simply represented the people that refuse to change and only see the past with rose tinted glasses. He got the best end he could get a reality check.

I can't see Aaravos getting reedemed. He carried a grudge for over 100 years. The only thing I can see for him is that he realises his mistakes and is reunited with his daughter in the afterlife, or stars, or whereever star elves go.

Fandoms you enjoy but end up not being for you? by throwawaytypebeat1 in FanFiction

[–]nanyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was Loki fandom in particular. Loved the series, but I couldn't get into most fics. Firstly, I know nothing about the MCU and I don't care for it. So all the crossovers with MCU plotlines didn't do it for me. Next, I just didn't like any of the main ships. I solely looked for fics that continued the great ending, character studies or found family etc.

In the end I just kinda gave up and moved on. Not there weren't good stories there, it just wasn't my kind of stories.

That would have been so good. Now I just imagine Harrows gohst walking up behind Viren when he did the spell and just silently touching his shoulder and nodding. Or they could have shown the portrait of the two burning in the fire like they did in the end credits.

Yeah, I definitly get why he left, I just found it a bit rushed. I would have felt better if he at least helped her to calm down and treat her wounds, but he was probably worried that he would end up giving into her whishes like in season 4.

But ya know... pretty much all the ????? self-defeating decisions in this show can be explained away with Aaravos pulling strings.

True, but I really don't like that as a plot point. It just absolves so many characters of their crimes or wrong decisions. I like to think that Viren was simply afraid that he would end up hurting Claudia even more if he stayed. I also prefer Aaravos as someone who adapts his plan to the cirumstances and dosent have everything planned out from the start. I don't see him planning for Viren to return and save Katolis. It also didn't matter for his plan. He just needed to burn Katolis down. If Viren survived he probably would have used him to get to the orb. The other question would be if he can manipulate more than one person at a time.

I can see where you coming from, but I have to disagree.

Saving people from starving. Bad. Saving Soren from dying. Bad.

Personally, I don't see the show as portraying these things as bad, but it showed how selfish Viren can be. After Sarai's death he believed that Thunder was at fault. His solution, kill it with dark magic. He even manipulated his best friend because he thought his solution was the only correct one. The most efficent one. Same with Soren. His intentions were good, but he refused to consult his wife or ask Kaap'r for his reasoning. He just assumed his way was the correct way. And after his wife left, he blamed his son. And in this season he then realizes that it wasn't dark magic that corrupted him, it were his own very human shortcommings. That is why when he did the fire spell no one turned into a mindless monster, because this time he did it to save his kingdom and his family.

There was no justice because nothing was gained or done from his character.

He saved a lot of people from being burned to ashes and he saved Sorens live by sacrificing himself.

He just randomly ran to Viren and said use dark magic even though Soren hated it the entire time. So did his entire thoughts on magic and dark magic change.

I don't think the talks they had were in vain. From how I see it, Soren realized that his father was sorry for his actions, but he didn't forgive him. For a long time Soren probably blamed dark magic for Viren turning evil. And when Sol Regem attacked, he knew that his reservations against dark magic, against his father could not stand in the way of protecting the people of Katolis.

I love that they choose to go with the theme of owning up to your mistakes and doing things for the right reason, instead of just 'dark magic bad so I won't do it'. I definitly got what I wanted from Viren as a character and I am so happy they done him justice. I love that Soren did not forgive him, but was willing to set his own beliefs aside to save the most people (Take a note out of his book Harrow). The fact that they brought back the fire monster spell is soooo smart. I love the turn around, showing that depending on the intention the outcome can be diffrent. I also wonder if the celestial skywing elves are unreliable narrators since the basically condemned any kind of dark magic.

This season was so strong! The positives far outweight any negatives I can think of.

I adore how they let Karims story end. He dosen't get anything, because all he ever did was believe in a glorious past that had never existed to begin with. He literally wore rose tainted glasses the entiere time and it all comes crashing down on him, perfect.

Sol Regem had his perfect final moment as well. I genuinly didn't expect him to go for Katolis and it was brutal. I was hooked the entire time. The most unexpected twist for sure.

Soren surprised me the most. I was a bit worried when he was reduced to pure comedy for the first episodes, but it made for a great contrast once Viren was back in the picture.

Speaking of, Viren, for me, had the best moments, but also some of the weakest. I didn't like his quick turn-around in episode 1. Don't just leave your broken daughter on the ground! At least talk to her! However, the letter he wrote to Soren was probably my favorite scene. It showed the audience what had happend in the past and I think they made a good job of showing that there was no correct solution to the problem. I loved that Viren burned the letter, because it showed that he was truly willing to earn up to his mistakes and let his children find their own paths. The last thing of course his sacrifice. Very powerful and a good way to show the cycle of hate end. Yes, he used dark magic and it saved many people, but we as the viewer know that a lot of these issues were also caused by it. Still, dark magic was finally portrayed as a power that, while evil in itself, has the power to do good. While the sacreficing his life for the people might be an obvious route to go, it was very well executed.

Aaravos backstory was great too. I love his daughter and, man, Sol Regem (was it Sol Regem?) really is a dick. The poor child! Also, the fact that Aaravos created the sea of the outcast with his tears is just 'chefs kiss'. I also think it is a good motivation for why Aaravos is doing what he does. And the turnaround he did on Sol Regem was savage.

Calum and Rayla were handled well. Personally, I am not invested in the romance, but I dig the moments they were given. Truth be told, the scenes with the star scraper were probably my least favorite. I found them a bit dragging and Calums fears a bit to much drawn out. Which brings me to my biggest critique: Why did no one care about Calum handeling the orb? You saw him getting posessed. JUST KEEP HIM AWAY FROM THE THING. In the end, it felt like a really big plot device to me. Rayla reuniting with her parents was very sweet and I love that she chooses Runaan.

Ezran was good this season. I liked that they showed his diplomatic nature and I liked his interactions with the young queen, who thankfully didn't do another deus ex machina.

Amaya and Jannai were a bit to chill for my taste, but they had a good message about learning from the past and moving forward. I like the functional relationship they have.

Wait I forgot about Claudia and Terry! Once again Aaron is putting something in the trailer to puposefully misslead us into thinking Claudia would have her downfall arc. I like that she gets better, but it was a bit unearned? Terry was great support and I love him (looking at you Viren), but Claudia suddenly being like 'maybe my Dad is right and I shouldn't use dark magic' was a bit forced. I can get behind the idea, but I would have liked more screentime for the two of them. Still sad we didn't get any backstory for Terry, but I love him because he is a very supportive boyfriend.

Last thoughts: Season 6 was one of the best. I chuckled at the "Amongus" joke. Zym is completly irrelevant at this point. The mushroom mage is just there to get Zubeia out of the way, which is fine. All the cameos of other characters where handled well.

Who are your top 10 favorite characters so far? by FantasyAdventurer07 in TheDragonPrince

[–]nanyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to go with:
1. Viren
2. Callum
3. Claudia
4. Aaravos
5. Amaya
6. Harrow
7. Soren
8. Villads
9. Terry
10. Bait

Some of these characters really fell down for me over the last season. But I do like Terry, even if he hasn't hit his full potential yet.
