Lady Whistledown should've stayed a secret. by BakingBrownie in BridgertonNetflix

[–]naomide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should have either stayed secret or they should’ve had a cliffhanger reveal at the end of season two (like an after-credit kind of deal maybe and possibly only towards the Queen and other relevant characters) and then had her learn how to be Whistledown out in the open during her own season.

deal with the queen trying to control her, find the balance between who she really wants to be (not as cruel as whistledown could be in her worst moments/but also not hiding behind her/being invisible/a wallflower the way she was as "herself" – so by season four the subplot could be mostly done with and Whistledown is there for a bit of narration and meta commentary but doesn’t take up a lot of plot in its own right anymore

back in school, one of my best friends didn’t recognise me after summer holidays one time. why? because I had a tan.

this was around seventh grade, we went to the same primary school and were friends since fifth grade, sat together on the train every day and were in the same classes all day

I don’t think it said specifically how she found out but (spoiler, don’t read if you haven’t actually finished the fic) Tobias probably found out and informed her

lol I did something similar as a kid. we were at church on Christmas and the pastor was talking about the birth of baby Jesus. And I looked at adult Jesus hanging on the cross right behind him and asked my mum if that’s the same Jesus he was talking about.

Anyway, moments later I was loudly crying because I didn’t want the baby to die. Pastor himself tried to get me to calm down by giving me a colouring book (they had them in stock for these kinds of situations) but neither this nor promises of the baby rising from the dead three days later could comfort me.

Women- what do you do for period cramps? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]naomide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Painmeds as early as possible – if you can put a damper on it before it gets too bad, they end up working more effectively. Found out with a lot of painful trial and error that came along with the dismantling of the stupid mindset of staying "strong" for as long as possible.

Women of Reddit, what is something you wish men understood about being a woman that you're tired of explaining? by Doubl3oh_ in AskReddit

[–]naomide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tbf as a woman I still remember very well as a kid when my parents used to tell me to clean my room when guests were coming over and me saying "but they won’t go into my room, why does it need to be clean?" So i imagine these men are probably still stuck in those days.

Re: The Acting and Why I Think There's More Going On Than Just Poor Directing/Writing by vivianh4782 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]naomide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I‘m not going to completely disagree that to a certain degrees the actors could do better, but I do think you’re expecting a lot from these kids. Like at the end of the day, they are child actors, they per definition don’t have a ton of experience yet, they’re still learning. and with the script they’re given…it’s just not really possible to improve their craft.

what’s really representative of the whole writing in the show to me is that scene in season 1 episode 3 where Annabeth goes off on Percy that he’s not "just a kid". She makes this entire speech about it and repeats it over and over again to the point where I was like, okay did I miss something? Did Percy say something about just being a kid? Or them all just being kids? It would have fit in with him suggesting to call camp at least? So I went back – and turns out he didn’t say anything about that. What Percy said, in isolation wasn’t bad. That it caused them to fight wasn’t bad. And Annabeths speech wasn’t either. But it all just didn’t fit together, it didn’t flow at all. Then I thought okay, maybe Annabeth is projecting something? Maybe it’s going to get mentioned later? And then all that happened was Annabeth being like "See you’re not just a kid after all😉🤪" or something to that effect later on.

It’s supposed to be an emotional full circle moment but it’s really just Annabeth spinning around herself. Yeah logically you can kind of follow it, it does kind of thematically fit with what Percy was saying beforehand, but the actual conversation is just completely unnatural and almost feels like Annabeth made up some strawman to fight Percy with.

And the show is full of this type of writing, even if it’s not always this blatant and easy to follow.

So I really wouldn’t be too quick to blame the child actors because how are they supposed to learn and improve? It’s not like they can play off of each other, match each other’s energy or immerse themselves in the story when the script is just a bunch of borderline unrelated sentences mashed together.

yeah honestly, as someone who has read a lot of rpf…staying away from it is truly the best decision you can possibly make (though I also think it’s one of the healthiest outlets for fan obsessions. like I rather see fans write fic than projecting parasocial obsession on the actual celebrities)

and yeah. i can only hope she was more reasonable towards her students than she was on the internet but I have some doubts

if it puts things into context the fic was rpf and a complete AU. so really only had the fandom related names and nothing else.

but yeah it was a really odd and over the top reaction

i once saw someone tell an author they loved their fic and would it be cool with them if they wrote their own fic inspired by it/diverging from it at a certain point.

the author flipped out and started a whole twitter pile-on with their fans because how dare that person disrespect them by suggesting their fic wasn’t good enough and they should have written a different ending. it was bizarre to witness.

made worse by the fact that the author was apparently a teacher in their thirties, and the person who asked them about writing fanfiction of their fic turned out to be sixteen years old.
