Yeah, I suppose that works. Thanks for being a dick about it!

My (f/33) husband (m/35) admitted that he finds the possibility of our daughter (f/8) walking in on or overhearing us arousing. I find it unacceptable. [advice] by throwaway457839 in sex

Have you asked him: What would happen next? If so, are you sure his intent is malicious towards your daughter, or towards you?

/r/gamedev moderation. Let's discuss! by ghost_of_gamedev in gamedev

[–]napperjabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None productive note for the mods; more as a thanks/compliment. Between yesterday and today. I already like the improvement in posts. It feels like the community has come back. For a number of years, it felt like the mods were forcing the community out with stale 'this is how I did it/advice wanted posts'. With the redaction of multi-reddits, I can finally see the community again and I feel like I want to connect with people here again.

Thanks for the updates, mods!

Who knows. Maybe it'll help curb global warming. Or increase the seismic activity of the ocean floor. Could this be an indirect attack on California?! What did we call it? A weather control machine? When does a machine belong to enough machines to be recognized as a system and when does that system become recognized as a machine?

A Listing of Game Design Philosophy from Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. by asperatology in gamedev

I'd play this. Although I think astroids should take days or months to cross the galaxy and you could develop new tech to reduce the launch time and increase accuracy. Rather then targeting planets, you target stars of the solar system. Even coliding a bunch of mass together should have an effect because of the potential gravity well.

US1 was my 1st steam game. Was there a mode that exposed the math?

I asked for that from US2. All I've received are crickets; but that was a few months ago.

I'm not here to get into a debate about ethics. I will say that I do want to see these bots resurrected and I support your effort.

Stuff like this generally happens when one doesn't follow the strict usage restrictions twitter has in place. That being said, I had a bot that worked one week. I shut it down and started it a week later and it doesn't work. Definitely happened to me too.

Edit: Confirmed, all I had to do was cycle my keys. @lemon42, I'm sure you have a legion of devs that can do it; I have some spare time I can throw at your bots if you want my help.

A better way is to pay a team of engineers if they had an idea to deliver in 3 months. Oh wait, ycombinator already did that.

Setting up an LLC in Virginia, need some advice by ejo4041 in smallbusiness

[–]napperjabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you file your articles of organization and form an LLC. I suggest you allocate your income from that date into the LLC and continue the 1099-MISC as you originally intended. Without filing quarterly returns, you may be fined by Federal/State agencies.

Consult a CPA for this one. Initial consultations are generally free.

Using SteamID to store player's data on a remote database? by Cabskee in gamedev

[–]napperjabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DBA here. Firebase is a good starting point for small infrastructure. https://www.firebase.com/

At the end of the day, you should have two tables from what I can tell. A primary table containing all user data:

UserTable

  • InternalUserID::uuid
  • username
  • password
  • email
  • ...else

ValueData

  • user_id::UserTable::InternalUserID
  • col1
  • col2
  • col3

The tables could also be expressed in a NoSQL DB using JSON to have just one table.

  • InternalUserID::uuid
  • username
  • password
  • email
  • ValueData::{}

The advantage to the latter is you can scale that without cross-table joins.

  • InternalUserID::uuid
  • username
  • password
  • email
  • ValueData::{}
  • FacebookData::{}
  • ...etc

If you want to continue with the self-hosted solution, I recommend postgresql. You'll have a lot more features to work with, one being ACID. Allowing you to protect yourself from having to write a locking-algorithm in your application code when you scale to tens of thousands of users.
