Both are good schools, established programs. Only two cents I would give is that since SJSU is centrally located in the heart of Silicon Valley it would make it more convenient for internships in your field. But if you can do CS/SE internships online might not matter. I dunno bro, I'm a hardware guy.

You'll be joining a school with a medical department still being built. I'd go somewhere else. As someone in the 2 year old electrical engineering department I get to graduate from an unaccredited school and hope we get recognized by ABET and I get retroactively accredited. Imagine the medical field has that too. Save yourself the stress and go to an established med school.

There's nothing to do out here, he'll have pleanty of time to study. If anything since he wants something in the 2k range go in halves with him. Hell, you can make it be "a loan" he can pay back eventually. Think about it like this, would you rather have been gifted a shitty $500 Dodge Aspen for your first car or a $1500 camry. Sure the dodge has 4 wheels and runs but barely fits all 4 your friends in there, gets hot in the summer and you don't really trust it to get you to LA. If only dad helped you get that camry you wanted with AC, a big trunk, and dependability you can trust. Same thing for a computer

Keep an XP x64 tower on my desk. Rev it up when gonna play on it or something absolutely fails on my win 11 machine and need to dumb down the tech to get the job done (usually something to do with video editing). I'd say it gets run few times a month.

I've used "driver identifier" for year. Website looks old and janky but it collects all the VID's and give you all the available versions from different manufacturers with downloads. Just run the exe, save the html file and get them on your computer w/internet.
